After the adrenaline-filled concert, the backstage atmosphere was both exhilarating and tiring. Jure Maček, being himself, tried to ease the mood by telling jokes and being his loud self. The drummer known for his chaotic charm, couldn't help but feel a pang of self-doubt. As the bandmates settled down, Jure excused himself to find a moment of respite, stepping outside to smoke a cigarette. Lighting it and taking his first drag.
In the cool night air, Jure's mind spiraled with negative thoughts. He felt like he was letting the band down, that his loud personality was a nuisance rather than an asset. He put the recently lit cigarette to his mouth and took another drag, exhaling the smoke slowly. He questioned whether he belonged in the band at all. Did they even like him? Was he annoying?
It's not the first time he's doubted himself for this reason. Jure just felt worse and worse whenever his bandmates didn't laugh at his jokes or when they dismissed him for being too loud when they were tired ect. This wasn't something he'd worry about if it didn't happen so often. It makes him feel childish and unwanted.
Just when he was about to take another drag from his cigarette, Jan Peteh, the band's composed and understanding guitarist, appeared quietly at his side.
"Mind if I join you?" Jan asked, lighting his own cigarette.
Jure offered a faint smile, appreciating the gesture. "Sure, Jan."
The two sat in silence for a moment, the faint sound of cars driving and people chatting being heard in the background. Jan knew Jure well enough to sense that something was bothering him, and he decided to gently approach the subject.
"Jure, i can tell somethings wrong" Jan said with a light tone, trying to make the drummer feel some form of better.
Jure shrugged, a mix of panic and self-doubt surfacing in his eyes. "I don't know, Jan. Sometimes I worry that I'm too much for everyone. Maybe I should tone it down."
Jan turned to face Jure, a soft smile on his lips. "Jurček, listen to me" Jan started, taking a drag from his cigarette, smoke filling his lungs. "I wouldn't worry about it too much, you're wonderful and nice in your own way, yes you might be loud but you bring the fun with your cute laugh and amazing energy." He looked Jure in the eyes. His heart leaped at those beautiful blue eyes staring back at him.
Jure blinked, feeling touched by Jan's words. Jure blushed slightly, he didn't know this part of Jan that well. He had to admit he'd had a crush on Jan ever since he joined the band. Something about the way he plays the guitar as if it were the easiest thing in the world.
"I just can't help but feel insecure, sometimes I feel as if I don't really fit in, I don't really have a lot in common with any of you" Jure said, looking down in shame.
Jan reached out and gently cupped Jure's cheek, raising his head to make eye contact with the blonde again. "Hey, even if you didn't have anything in common with us, it doesn't matter. We see you as one of us, we're a family. We are there for each other no matter the issue, major or minor"
Jure leaned into Jan's touch, comforted by his words and presence. "Thank you, Jan. I'm grateful to have you as my friend, my bandmate." Jure said and raised his own hand to hold Jan's.
Jan's eyes softened, and he took a deep breath, gathering his courage. "Maček" he paused. Rethinking if this was the right timing to confess his feelings to the drummer. "I think we should get inside and go home, get some sleep. If you don't want to stay at Kris's you can stay with me for the night" Jan cursed at himself internally. Really? Jan, you ruined it!
"Can I please stay at yours?" Jure asked, seeming a bit embarrassed from the question. Losing eye contact with the brunette. Jan's hand left Jure's cheek. The cold swooping in on the blond boy.
"Of course, I drove here because I knew I'd want to go home after this" Jan laughed at his own stupidity. Jure joined the laughter a moment after it started. The both of them stomped out their cigarettes, getting ready to leave.
Jure could feel a steady arm wrap around his lean figure. He felt butterflies in his stomach at the arm around his waist. Leading them to Jan's car.
Jure opened the door to the passenger seat, getting in feeling much better than before. He hummed a tune and put on his seat belt. A few seconds later they were on the road, on the way back to Jan's place.
Steering wheel in hand, mind blank and trying to stay awake. Jan pulls into the driveway and parks his car. Jure already takes his seat belt off and practically jumps out of the car, having found his energy again. He walked to the other side of the car, waiting for Jan to get out.
Staring at the blonde boy, getting out of the car himself. He admired the slightly shorter boy in front of him. He reaches down into his pocket and gets his keys out, unlocking the door to his house. They both took off their shoes, putting them against the wall. Jure, having been there multiple times, knows where to go. The kitchen. He assumed that Jan was also hungry after a long day.
Jan saw Jure walk into the kitchen, he wondered what the blondie would make. Considering he's got a sweet tooth, it would be something sweet.
Jan sat down at his couch, opened his phone to check Instagram. Stalking Jure's page, not trying to be obvious. He couldn't help but smile seeing Jure so happy in a lot of the pictures. He quickly shut off his phone and put it in his pocket when he heard footsteps coming towards him.
As he expected, Jure came out with a plate of pancakes, carrying two empty plates and utensils. Jan hurriedly helped him put the food down onto the table.
"Do you have jam?" I didn't really double check the fridge" Jure said, putting plates on the table. Sitting on one of the chairs.
"I always have jam because you love it so much Jurček '' Jan said, leaning down to kiss the top of his head. Jures response, which was a giggle. Stayed in Jans head for a bit too long. A second after, he was walking into the kitchen with a smile. Getting a jar of raspberry jam and a spoon. Walking back to the table, putting the jar and spoon in front of Jure.
The blondie's eyes light up as he puts a pancake on his plate, opening the jar of jam and putting some on his pancake. Spread it around to his liking and put the spoon back into the jar. Jan's heart, almost a puddle on the floor. Watches as Jure cuts into the flat pancake and puts it in his mouth.
He sat there for a minute, just staring at Jure. He could get lost in those eyes. Jure is happily nodding his head back and forth, enjoying his food. Jan realized how creepy he looks and tried to salvage it by pretending it never happened. Grabbing his own pancake and just eating it plain.
They ate in comfortable silence, just enjoying each other's company. They'd occasionally make eye contact but in embarrassment they both looked down at their plates again.
The silence was broken by Jan.
"Thank you for the food Jurček, It was really tasty" He said, getting up from his chair and ruffling the blondies hair. Picking up his plate a second after. The drummer hummed a reply before getting up and following him to the kitchen.
They both put their dishes into the sink. Jan washed his hands, lathering his hands in soap and rubbing them together. Jure came up behind him, wrapping his slim arms around the slightly taller man. Putting his forehead to Jan's shoulder.
Jan tensed up by the sudden arms around him, but slowly calmed down. Knowing it was just Jure. Suddenly feeling the blonde's arms around him made his heart rate increase.
For a moment, Jan zoned out, thinking time had stopped. Only snapping out of it when jure started talking.
"What are our plans for tonight, Janči?" Jure asked, slightly nuzzling into the darker haried man's neck. Shivering slightly at the breath on the crevice of his neck, trying to blurt out something but nothing came out. Coughing slightly, he finally replied,
"Do you want to watch a movie?" Jan asked, throat slightly hoarse. Jan feeling himself get more and more nervous by the second.
"Ooo! What are we thinking about watching?"
Jure replied, excitement in his voice. The blonde man now let go of his waist and moved his hands to Jan's shoulders.
"I.. I don't know actually, maybe some classic white trash movie" Jan said trying not to focus on the hands on his shoulders. He had been done with the dishes a while ago.
"Sounds good to me!" Jure said happily and basically skipped to the living room. Jan had to take a moment to catch his breath, he forgot how much he liked Jure. He was a bit too focused on the drummers' issues then what they were doing.
With long steps, Jan walked his way towards the sofa where jure was sitting patiently, slightly swaying from side to side. He excitedly looked up at Jan, patting the seat beside him, indicating for him to sit there. Jan braced himself but obliged.
They scrolled through Netflix for a minute but settled on an old movie either of them had seen in a long time. A movie the entire band watched when Jure first joined.
Both of the boys now getting comfortable, Jure put his head on Jan's shoulder. The dark haired man melted into the touch, just leaning into Jure's side. The movie was about halfway in, the both of them starting to get bored. Jan, feeling a bit risky, put his hand onto Jure's thigh. He started patting it slightly, looking up at the blonde man, just to realise Jure had been staring at him all along.
Making eye contact with him made Jan nervous. Neither of them focusing on the movie, all that infested their minds right now was each other. Jure reached to grab the guitarist's face. Making contact with Jan's stubble cheek, the tension between them strengthened. It could be cut with a knife. Slowly, they leaned towards one another.
Jure was the one to close the gap between their lips. Everyone says that kissing the one you love for the first time feels like having butterflies in your stomach. It felt more like fireworks exploding. None of the boys could think about anything else than the person in front of them.
They pulled away from each other, both of them being blushing messes. Jure was the first one to say anything since before the movie.
"I'm sorry, I really didn't-" He started but cut himself off. It was like he didn't know what to say.
"No, I enjoyed it." Jan's voice came out on its own, he didn't even think before saying it. Jan just stared into his blue eyes, never wanting to look away.
"Can I kiss you again?" Jure suddenly blurted out, shyly looking down.
"Please do." The darker haired man said, trying not to sound desperate but failing miserably. At those words, Jure looked back up and more confidently kissed Jan.
Jure cupped Jan's face fully now, slightly pushing him so he's almost laying down.
Jan rested his hands on Jure's waist, pulling him fully on top of him. Fully laying down now, Jan's hands went from Jure's waist to his hair. He tugged at it slightly, enjoying how Jure squirmed at the action.
It did not take long after that for a make out session to commence. They were hungry for each other, not able to keep their hands off of the other man in front of them.
They pulled away for a minute to breathe. Both panting and holding each other. Opening their eyes and staring at each other. They both looked a mess, especially after the concert. Jan just had to stay and admire him for longer.
"I think I like you, Jure" Jan said, wrapping his arms around Jure's chest and hugging him.
"I think I like you too, Jan." The drummer said, giving him the hug back and kissing him on the cheek.
They just lay there hugging, maybe this was all they needed from the beginning
