Chapter Text
Slingshot hissed, a great pain striking right when the last of the adrenaline from the fight ran out. Gripping her non-dominant arm, she saw a surprising amount of blood on her sleeve. Staying closer to the teammates she was assigned to, the ranger noted that she'd be the last one to be checked in on by one of the healers. Taking a quick glance, she was sad to see that Vinestaff wasn't nearby anywhere. The other thieves den members were separated, herself being the only member in the team.
Sitting down, she managed to relax a tiny part of her mind, although still clearly being forced to focus on the burning pain in her arm, only gripping the sleeve on it tighter. Countless conversations with Vinestaff told her that it's necessary to put pressure on a wound, she remembers whilst gripping her arm as hard as she could without making the pain worse.
The fight itself wasn't anything particularly new; The enemies she had gotten matched up against were, although skilled in their own ways, no match for the speedster and they managed to win without many injuries on their side aside from a few scratches. Unfortunately for her, the enemy Biograft had managed to catch up to her relatively easily at one point and barely managed to get out of it's grasp with help from one of her teammates.
Slingshot guesses that's where she got her still-present injury from, even if she hadn't felt it at the time. In that moment she had brushed off the sting she felt on her body and forced herself to do the best she could to win the fight. She somewhat regrets that now, considering how the stress on her body probably made it worse.
Even if she wasn't particularly close with anyone in the team she was in right now, she wishes there was someone nearby to make some sort of talk with, feeling the bounce of her leg grow rapid as she heard the distant noise of her teammates running around and speaking with eachother. Staring at them, she finds that the teams healer is finished with everyone but her and sighs, just now hearing the footsteps growing closer.
Slingshot’s gaze lands on the suitcase once it collides with the bench that she was sitting on. She greets Medkit and nervously pulls up her sleeve, showing a bright red gash on the side of her arm and the sighing of the only other person close to her.
She hears the other mumble something like ’Why did you not approach me sooner?', but she doesn't respond verbally and just winces.
Slingshot watches as Medkit generates a crystal from seemingly nowhere, practically just instantly appearing on her hand apart from the glow before its appearance. The ranger quickly releases her arm once the other's hand gets closer, intently staring at the crystal’s glow on her slowly healing wound.
The crystal glows brighter, almost blinding Sling in the process and once she blinks it just… disappears into the gash, decreasing the length and width of the wound on its own. The crystal makes the process feel incredibly weird, she notes to herself.
Medkit shifts and grabs her suitcase once again, this time pulling out a wipe and a bottle of water. She unscrews the top, wets the wipe and with probably more force than necessary, uses it to clean what's left of the nearly closed wound and the blood around it.
Taking a moment and wetting her lips, Slingshot finally speaks up.
“Uh. Thanks for the help, Medkit.” It feels awkward, and she does absolutely force the words to come out. She doesn't really know how to speak to people she doesn't know at all, aside from first-name basics. Medkit only hums in response.
She's actually pleasantly surprised when she watches the healer pack up and realized thats it, her mouth answering before her brain can fully register. “Oh wow, you're finished already? Vinestaff usually takes longer. I'm practically good as new!” She moves her arm around, twisting it and checking if there's any pain.
“Don't move it that much, the pain will come back if you stress your arm like that.” The other snaps and gets up, squinting at Slingshot.
She quickly mews out a oh, sorry, and looks down at the ground, grabbing her own slingshot and standing up. “You did.. uh, good back there though.” Feeling bitter about ending the conversation on a bad note, she tries to continue.
Fidgeting and spinning her noticeably large weapon, she frowns watching Medkit clearly ignore her attempts at making somewhat small talk and just hums again.
The healer doesn't even take two steps when the feline leans what seems like her entire body weight closer to her. “You know, im actually very curious. How do your crystals work? I had a pretty big wound, and just one of your thingymabobs made it vanish! Like, super quickly!”
“You don't want to know that,” The deer pauses to snap back, and pushes the other further away, making yet another attempt at just getting out of the general area or maybe even going back home.
Slingshot frowns, now leaning against her weapon. “I mean, I do. That's why I asked.” She responds, cheek propped up against her arm.
“Won't tell you.” Is all Medkit says as she quickly walks out of the room. Conveniently enough, there is only one exit to the outside, so Slingshot has to follow either way.
The ranger frowns. “Not even a little bit?” ”No.” And ends the conversation there, healer refusing to say anything else.
Hesitantly giving up, Sling takes note of the time and decides she should go back to Thieves’ Den anyways. In a couple of hours, she's got her final shift at the cafe for the day and is able to rest soon.
Medkit finally manages to somewhat relax when the other one gives up and goes on her way, deciding to wait for the bus to Lost Temple.
For the first time, she thinks that cats are annoying.
