Don’t Trust Anyone

Summary:

The Exceeds in Fiore decides to take over the kingdom for many reasons–for Happy it’s all about red snapper shortage.

Spooktober 2023 prompt(s): "what have i done?"/horror comedy

Notes:

Here's the last Spooktober 2023 fic for Fairy Tail. It's sort of a crack fic, I guess. I just thought it'd be funny if Exceeds decided to take over for reason x. I had a blast writing this and I hope you guys like this, too! 😊

Happy reading! 👻

Work Text:

The fury of a feline knows no boundaries.

When humans said they weren’t going to give them all the fishes they wanted anymore, it made Happy furious. How could this place take his favorite dish away from him like this? They claimed there was a shortage but Happy didn’t think so. He was so sick of all these rules that humans had and how it affected Exceeds too simply because they could talk.

He decided to take matters into his own han–oh, I mean, paws–and had then asked all the Exceeds in Earthland to join him in a meeting in the forest where most of them lived together.

“They won’t give us fish anymore and that was the last straw for me”, Happy explained when he was asked what was the reason behind the meeting.

“They do like to control things a bit too much”, agreed Lector and Frosch nodded in agreement next to him.

“What are we gonna do then?” Pantherlily asked.

“Take control, of course”, Carla said at once.

“Over humans? Seriously?” Lector said, looking suspicious.

“It can be done. Exceeds were in control in Edolas.”

“Yeah, but humans retaliated eventually, remember? They’re very good at that”, Pantherlily argued.

“We’ll find a way to stop them first”, Carla said.

“Why are you so into this idea anyways?”

“Because I will be the queen.”

“Who says so?”

“My visions.”

“Oh… Well, I can’t argue with that then”, Pantherlily said and crossed his paws on his chest.

“Now that’s settled, we should plan our revolution”, Happy grinned. “And all the fish will be ours!”

“And then no one will question my frogness either!” Frosch exclaimed fiercely.

Happy was always surprised when he realized that the Exceed in a frog suit wasn’t as dumb as he had always thought.

They tricked the wizard guilds into helping them by making up a story that Exceeds were all under attack by the royal family. Other guilds didn’t question anything when Fairy Tail and Sabertooth both decided to end it before they were attacked–which went exactly as Carla had said it would and it had been the main reason why these guilds had been used. Happy and others knew they would be the key to success in their plan.

After the imaginary attack had been prevented, Exceeds decided to ban the guilds that helped them and imprison them immediately to prevent them from fighting back later. Happy felt a little bit of guilt for turning his back on his guild but he knew they would retaliate otherwise. There was no other way. That’s why he didn’t listen anything when they were locked up into rooms that would absorb their magic powers every time they tried to use them to escape. Happy was surprised there had even been a way to stop Natsu from doing anything.

“I saw he would try something in a vision and made sure that he can’t”, Carla explained when Happy asked her about it.

“You’re so cold, Carla.”

“This revolution was your idea, Happy.”

“I know.”

“Exactly. Now go have all that fish you wanted. I have things to do.”

Happy sighed and left the room that Carla had taken as hers in the Merkurius Castle after the take over. He made his way towards the room where he was living in. It had belonged to some politician who had lived in the castle but who had been kicked out during the take over as Exceeds weren’t going to have no humans in the new government. It would only be about making things better for them, and not have humans there to make decisions for themselves and forgetting that Exceeds also lived in Fiore.

It was okay in order to change things for the better, wasn’t it?

Wasn’t it?

When Happy later sat in his room and was lazily rolling a ball around the marble floor, he ate Red Snapper, which was his favorite kind of fish. He loved everything about it. He had been told that there wasn’t much of it left in the kingdom but when the take over had succeeded, Happy had found out that there was a hidden pool full of the delicious fish underneath the city. No wonder the kingdom was running out of Red Snapper–the capital city was hoarding it all! Happy had been both infuriated and happy at the same time. He couldn’t complain though as having an endless supply of this delicious fish had been his dream for a very long time.

When it was time for the first speech of the new government that only had Exceeds in it and not even a one human, Happy was a little bit surprised that he wasn’t included in it. He had been in the meetings, sure, and the whole take over had been his idea in the first place but in the end he was thrown on the sidelines instead for some reason and he wasn’t sure why it had happened in the first place. They hadn’t included Frosch either in it but that was understandable because the Exceed in frog suit was more interested in being a frog than anything else.

“And know this; it’s an act of treason to question my government”, Carla said at the end of her first speech as the new queen of Fiore, Happy was sure that she glanced into his direction. He wanted to hope that she didn’t but couldn’t help but feel shivers go down his spine until the tip of his tail. He realized that Carla wasn’t what she seemed at all. He realized that she shouldn’t have been trusted when she said she had already envisioned everything regarding the take over. The idea may have been Happy’s, but Carla used it for her own gain without any remorse and judging by the things she cad said in her speech, the future of the kingdom looked very dark and thus Happy’s heart, his very soul, was filled with remorse and guilt. He looked at Carla who looked at him knowingly before she turned around and walked back inside. Members of the Exceed government followed her.

Happy stood there on the stairs of the castle, looking at the ground in shock over what had taken place–how hadn’t he noticed the signs? They had been right before his eyes all this time! Had he been so obsessed with Red Snapper that his brain had turned into jelly or something?

He just couldn’t believe it–not at all.

What have I done…?
