Work Text:

"Jimin, hold on, let me explain, my love,"

Jungkook gently holding Jimin's hand to stop him from leaving. The small man's face was lowered, his shoulders trembling lightly and Jungkook could tell that the man he loved was crying without making a sound.

His heart ached to realize that one of the reasons Jimin was crying was his own wretched behavior. Jungkook felt like a failure. But compared to himself, Jungkook knew that Jimin must be feeling a deeper and more painful sadness.

Both of their breaths started to steady. Jimin's tears seemed to have stopped, at least a little, as he slowly released the tight hold of Jungkook's hand on his. The man with the smaller stature turned to face Jungkook and slowly lifted his head.

Their gazes met. And Jimin had the courage to swear that his heart was shattered once again, into pieces that he could not count. It was too painful, so now tears welled up again, dropping one by one until his cheeks were wet again.

If Jimin usually cried over trivial things—like watching an old western movie on the Netflix platform—Jungkook usually would playfully tease the man with his flushed cheeks. But now, both Jungkook's hands and body were stiff as he looked at the sad look in Jimin's eyes.

There was no usual gaze that Jimin gave him as he looked at him. There was no shade of bright cheer or warmth. There was clearly a deep sadness there.

"I still remember that deep talk night two years ago. I told you that I can't tolerate cheating, Jungkook. It doesn't make sense in my mind. If the cheater doesn't have any love for their partner, they should just say a proper goodbye then move on to their new one, that's what I said that night, do you remember?"

"There's no need to cheat on me, Jungkook. If you don't love me anymore, TELL ME!"

Jimin emphasized the last sentence with an angry voice, but a moment later he tried to control his emotions so he could speak again.

"I want to know, and you have to answer. What do I lack? What does he give you that allows you to quietly spend the last three months with him behind my back? What did I do wrong, Jungkook? Answer!" The shout was deafening to Jungkook's ears. Those words devastated his heart.

Jimin was perfect in every way.

Jungkook looked at Jimin with a blank stare. He was struggling to find an answer that could lessen the pain Jimin was feeling. But it seemed that he failed. The only answer he had to Jimin's questions was one that would certainly shatter Jimin even more. He hesitated and frowned.

"You don't lack anything, darling. You're the perfect boyfriend I've ever had,"

With the answer that Jungkook uttered, Jimin let out a small laugh. It sounded mocking. The small man shook his head in disappoinment and disbelief.

"Liar. Stop saying nonsense, Jungkook. I don't want to hear your stupid bullshit." His tone was sarcastic as he stared at Jungkook with a stern expression.

However, listening to those words also infuriated Jungkook, boiled his anger. "You really think those praises I've told you are bullshit? I'm serious when I say you're beautiful, perfect, you have everything, Jimin. I'm serious when I say I love you until death do us part, I..."

Jungkook's sentence was cut off as Jimin yelled. Loudly. Thankfully, the roads in the residential were quiet at night. Maybe the security guard on patrol would hear. But Jimin didn't care anymore.

"Then why do you have to cheat on me, bastard?!" Jimin shouted in a loud voice. He himself was surprised to hear that, but he felt like he was ignoring his ears.

"I'm a human too, Jimin. I love you, but I can still make mistakes. I'm sorry. I admit my disgraceful behavior, I admit I cheated. But there's only one person in my heart... it's you darling. Only you,"

Once again, Jimin laughed, but this time it was a long one. Jungkook even felt a chill down his spine. Jimin stopped his laughter and once again looked at Jungkook with a flat expression. An expression that Jungkook had never seen before. His boyfriend looked... creepy.

"For the past three months you often stayed at his room, right? That means he won. I'm breaking up with you, Jungkook. I'm stepping away from this relationship, from you, from all the pain that I've received. I'm stepping back, Jungkook."

And with that, Jimin walked away into the dark of the night.

Jungkook remained still as Jimin made his way away. He wanted to pursue Jimin, but his legs felt heavy. He could only gaze blankly at the small man who had been his comfort for the past five years.

He knew he was in the wrong. He vented his boredom by approaching another man, allowing himself to indulge in a secret relationship without giving Jimin any reason. It started as a fling in the first month, but before long Devan was demanding more in the relationship. And Jungkook couldn't say no. That's where he went wrong.

He continued the affair. He even took Devan to the same hangouts that he and Jimin used to go to without a thought about Jimin. His friends noticed something was amiss, especially as Jimin's presence was no longer by his side. They kept it under wraps, but Tirta finally took action in the third month.

Tirta visited Jimin's residence and told him everything, including showing him the photos that he and his friends took secretly. Photos that showed Jungkook and a mysterious man whom Jimin didn't know.

The following day, Jimin visited Devan's residence, thanks to the information Tirta and his friends gathered. Jimin noticed the tense movements Jungkook made as he messed with the man's hair in front of him. Jungkook looked like he was saying goodbye as he left Devan's residence. Jimin watched from a distance, waiting for Jungkook to pass by on the side of the road in the residential, about 200 meters away.

After the exhausting and tragic incident earlier, both Jimin and Jungkook had returned to their respective homes. Jimin laid down on his bed. His eyes stared at the gloomy sky of his bedroom. His eyes were filled with tears again. He breathed in deeply and wiped the tears that fell. Exhausted from crying, his eyes were already swollen and red.

However, the wound in his heart felt like it would never heal, at least not that night.

On the other side, when Jungkook arrived home, he took his rage out on his entire room. Making the once tidy room torn and full of things that had been thrown about and a vase from Jimin that had been shattered on his desk. Jungkook stood there frozen, realizing that the vase was the present that Jimin had given him for their anniversary last year.

He approached the shards and carefully attempted to collect them until on the third piece, his pinky finger was sliced by one of the shards. Jungkook winced in pain as the cut was deep. He stood there for a long time before noticing some of the pieces he'd collected in his palm.

"I broke him into pieces. I won't have a chance to fix it. Even if I did, I don't deserve it. I don't deserve him."

"Jimin, you're an amazing person. You deserve to have someone who loves you more than anyone else. You deserve to have a partner who treats you better than I did. If I had known I would break your heart, I wouldn't have dated you. I'm so sorry, Jimin, baby."

Tears spilled from his eyes as he sobbed. His shoulders tensed and the pieces he had collected slipped from his grasp. Jungkook knelt down and buried his face in his knees. He clung to his own body. He ignored the blood dripping from his cut pinky finger.

"I know it must be hard to forgive me. If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't forgive myself either. But I hope one day you will heal from the wound I have caused and find someone better to replace me." Those were the last words uttered by Jungkook's lips before he collapsed onto his side, still hugging his knees.

The cold floor of his room went unnoticed as Jungkook felt a pain in his heart as well as a pounding in his head. All he heard then was his own sobs that were so painful to hear. Jungkook chose to close his eyes, letting the spinning in his head take over and lead him into unconsciousness. It was unclear whether he fainted or merely succumbed to exhaustion, but he no longer felt aware at that moment.

Back on Jimin's side, as he finally calmed down, the young man left his bed and began collecting all the belongings relating to Jungkook. He also reset his phone to factory settings, intending to delete all memories of Jungkook permanently. The night felt terribly long for Jimin.

Half an hour passed and Jimin finished his activities. It didn't take much time because without hesitation, all the items he had gathered ended in the trash behind his house. He had finished with Jungkook.

It was often said that Jimin was an angel due to his kind nature as noted by his friends and Jungkook. But in this case, in the midst of his problem with Jungkook, Jimin would never be able to be an angel for him again. He had pulled out the demon that was deeply planted within himself and it had consumed Jimin in anger, causing him to forget forgiveness.

His mind firmly stated that he would remember this pain forever and would never forgive what Jungkook had done to hurt him.
