Work Text:
The sound of the piano couldn’t overpower the loud thunder.
The stars hands were slightly trembling from the sound, but he tried to quickly regain his composure. After a few moments, he tried to play a tune on the piano again, hoping it would cover up the fact that there was going to be a long thunderstorm tonight.
It didn’t really work…
After seeing a flash, Tsukasa braced himself for the loud sound, he quickly went underneath the piano, hitting his head in the process and covered his ears.
Again, he waited a few moments after the thunder faded away, and released a heavy sigh as he came out from underneath the old piano.
He quickly walked over to the couch and sat down, fiddling with the sleeves of his boyfriends hoodie. The sleeves were slightly longer than his hands, so it only showed his fingertips, but the feeling of the soft fabric calmed the blond just a bit. He decided to lay down and bring his hands close to his face so he could smell his boyfriends scent.
It made him feel a bit safer, almost as if the ginger was right there next to him, cuddling the star and whispering to him that he was going to be okay.
Of course Tsukasa would never tell Akito about his fear of thunder.
It’s such a childish fear after all..not fitting for a star like him.
He flinched at the sound of the thunder, and began to hold the nearest pillow as he tried to calm his panicked breaths. Closing his eyes, the star tried to drift off to sleep hoping that the storm would end soon. He didn’t even care that he only had Akitos hoodie for warmth.
It didn’t make a difference anyways.
—
“Cmon Tsukasa-senpai..pick up!” Akito mumbled. He waited a few more seconds until he heard the voicemail message for the fifth time.
Groaning, he ended the call and grabbed his jacket. Leaving his room, Akito quickly put on an “annoyed” face. He was a bit worried that his boyfriend wasn’t answering, but he didn’t want to make it obvious to his sister who was in the kitchen.
“I’m heading out.”
“Huh?! It’s already 9pm! It’s way too late to go out.”
Akito sucked in his teeth, Ena did have a point after all, but he didn’t want that to stop him.
“Plus there’s a thunderstorm going on right now, it’s way too dangerous to walk!”
“Kay, I’ll ask mom to take me then.”
“..Hah?! Where are you going anyways?!”
Of course she would ask that, so nosy…
“..Somewhere.”
Just the thought of where he was going made his ears go red.
“…God Akito just say you’re staying over at your boyfriends place.”
Those words instantly made Akito blush more; “Ugh..you’re so annoying..!”
Ena only did her usual cat smile and stuck out her tongue. “You just made it really obvious loverboy!”
“I swear to god.”
“Yeah yeah, be careful, it’s dangerous outside.”
“…I will.”
Akito quickly turned towards the front door and left, closing the door behind him.
Ena watched him and let out a sigh, she was about to head to her room when she dashed to the front door and yelled,
“AKITO GET AN UMBRELLA YOU IDIOT!”
—
The ginger was careful not to walk too fast in the heavy rain, but deeply regretted not actually asking his mom to drop him off at the stars house.
Oh well, the things he would do for Tsukasa.
He was getting closer to the familiar street and was glad his sister actually handed him an umbrella before he really left the house. He wouldn’t have to worry about getting sick and making his boyfriend worried.
Akito began to hum a bit as he finally reached the blonds house. Ringing the doorbell he waited.
And waited.
He noticed the flash of lighting and mentally braced himself for the loud thunder.
“..Is he even home?” Akito mumbled and began to look for any lights shining through the window, and he didn’t see any on.
Akito was about to knock on the door, when he heard a click.
Peeking into the crack of the door, Akito noticed the familiar strawberry blond hair he loved so much.
“Tsukasa-senpai you finally answe-“
“?!?”
Akito was pulled in quickly and heard the door shut behind him.
“Oi, senpai be more care-“
He was interrupted by the shaky hands that began to hug him.
“..Senpai?”
Tsukasa didn’t say anything, but instead he hugged Akito more tightly and dug his head into the crook of the gingers neck.
The bang from the thunder finally came, and Tsukasa flinched as he gripped onto his boyfriend even more.
Akito immediately hugged him back and started to trace stars on the olders back, hoping it would calm him down. He carefully listened to Tsukasas short breaths and felt every tremble through the hug.
After a few moments Tsukasa finally calmed down, but stayed in that exact position. Akito didn’t dare to pull back from the hug, he never did, he brought a hand to the stars hair and began to stroke it, reminding his beloved that he was there.
Tsukasa only inhaled Akitos scent as he leaned into Akitos soft touch. He felt the warmth he was longing for the whole night, finally settle in.
A few seconds later, Tsukasa loosened the grip he had on Akito, and pulled away so he could be face to face to his slightly taller boyfriend.
Akitos heart ached when he saw Tsukasas nervous look, even though he was more calm, the star wasn’t smiling.
“..Want to eat dinner?” The ginger asked, hoping that his voice would be a distraction to whatever was bothering the star, though he could guess what the problem was.
But he’ll wait for his boyfriend to tell him, no matter how long it takes.
Tsukasa looked down, thinking of his answer. He watched as Akito gently grabbed his hands and began to rub his knuckles, waiting for the stars reply.
“…Sure.”
—
The house was soon filled with a delicious smell of udon and shrimp tempura.
Akito did his best to plate the pickled vegetables that Tsukasa took out from the fridge. He did see some carrots in there, but he’ll just give them to the blond…when he wasn’t looking.
Looking from the dining table, Akito turned his head to look at the star, who was now softly humming while trying to finish up the last batch of tempura.
The two were so distracted by the smell and warmth, that they failed to notice the lighting that just flashed.
A loud rumble came through again, but this time it flickered the lights.
“Ow!”
Akito immediately rushed to Tsukasa, who dropped the chopsticks he was using to flip the tempura, due to the hot oil that splattered onto him when the thunder came through.
Akito thoroughly checked the stars hand, careful not to accidentally hurt the boy. He sighed in relief when he realized it wouldn’t leave a scar on the star.
“I’m glad it didn’t fully burn you... let me get you some burning gel though.”
Akito was about to go to the bathroom to get the first aid kid, but was stopped by his boyfriend who gently tugged on his sleeve.
“..It’s fine.” the star mumbled, he let go of the sleeve and turned back to the stove. He didn’t want Akito to leave him, even for a second, he was too scared that another bang of thunder would come by.
The ginger only stared at the older boy, he then let out a sigh and reached over to turn down the heat. Tsukasa looked at Akito, confused on why he did that, but then the taller gently grabbed his other hand and led him to the bathroom.
“I’m not letting you think it’s okay to have an injured hand while cooking.”
“…It wasn’t that bad.”
“..Yeah, I guess, but..that doesn’t mean I’m going to let you think that.”
“..You’re really stubborn Akito.” Tsukasa said in a fond voice.
Akito was about to respond back to that, but the star interrupted him,
“I’m really grateful for that.”
Akito could only fondly roll his eyes and smile, “Yeah..I know.”
—
The two were back in the kitchen after treating the minor burns on Tsukasas hand. Akito stayed closed to the star to make sure he wouldn’t burn himself again, due to being startled by the thunder.
The warm atmosphere was back, and Tsukasa seemed more calm despite the heavy rain that continued to pour outside.
“Tsukasa-senpaiiiiii.”
“Hm? What’s wrong Akito?”
“Can I please have one piece?”
“Be patient my beloved junior! I’m almost done with this batch anyways.”
Akito wanted to playfully argue back, but it was the first time the whole night that Tsukasa was wearing his usual bright smile, so he decided to comply. He loved all sides of Tsukasa, but he really missed seeing that warm toothy grin.
After a few more minutes, Tsukasa finally finished frying the last piece of tempura, and thus he plated it and brought it over to the table with Akito following in his footsteps.
Akito sat down next to blond and scooted his chair closer to him. Tsukasa only smiled at the action and the two began to eat after saying their thanks.
The rain began to pour down even more and Akito carefully watched Tsukasa, just in case if there was thunder again.
The star seemed oblivious to the fact that Akito was aware of his fear, but Akito could care less about that. He wouldn’t tease the star for his fear of storms, since the blond is clearly showing distress from it. He knows that Tsuksas fine with the bug pranks, since there’s usually never a bug around, but you can’t exactly fake a thunderstorm, and Akito would be a fool to try so.
The ginger linked his pinky with his boyfriend and tried to eat his food with his left hand, it was more difficult than it look.
“Haha! Akito you’re getting food all over yourself!”
“Geh…no need to point it out Senpai..”
Akito sighed and turned his head slightly to the blond so he could help wipe off the crumbs that got onto his face.
Instead of a napkin, Akito felt Tsukasas breath against his face, and before he could open his eyes, there was a soft pair of lips onto his own.
Akito immediately returned the kiss, deepening it as he leaned into his boyfriend, he let go out of the stars pinky so he could hold his hand instead. Tsukasa was slowly leaning back, which was to the side of the chair - which didn’t have an arm rest, but he continued to kiss his boyfriend, not wanting the gentle and warm hold to leave.
Before Tsukasas head could reach the seat of the chair, Akito pulled back and gently pulled the star back up into his seat, careful not to give him any motion sickness.
The two had a deep pink hue on their cheeks, but only pressed their foreheads together as they giggled.
“Akito really wanted to kiss me didn’t he?” Tsukasa sighed, still trying to catch his breath.
“Says the one who kissed me first.”
Tsukasa only softly grinned at the teasing comment and was about to retaliate, but noticed the bright flash from the corner of his eyes. The star was about to lean back away from his boyfriend, before Akito gently put Tsukasas head into the crook of his neck.
Eh?
Akito began to lean his own head onto the stars, bringing a arm to the blonds waist and his other hand to his hair. The ginger tightly embraced his beloved and quietly sung a familiar song into the stars ear, hoping it would drown out the noise of the thunder that would soon come.
It seemed to have worked, the star did not react when the thunder came by, maybe he was okay?
Akito didn’t dare to let go though, he waited until there was confirmation that his boyfriend was okay.
“..Take your time Tsukasa-senpai. I’ll be here for you until the end.”
Akito meant that in a literal and figurative sense…well more like in a future sense. He wouldn’t mind waiting, he would wait, even if it was the end of the world, he would until the star felt ready to tell him about his fear of storms. He would wait, and he will.
The ginger felt a shift near him, and slowly stopped singing. The star slowly lifted up his head and stared at the ginger, Akitos eyes only widened and then he smiled softly.
He gently removed his hold on the star, and grabbed the plates on the table and transferred them to the sink. Tsukasa followed right behind him.
Akito fondly rolled his eyes and turned towards his boyfriend, gentle grabbing his cheeks and squishing them.
“Senpai, go ahead and get ready for bed. I’ll see you in a bit.” The ginger knows that when Tsukasa gets tired he gets clingy, but also immediately goes to his bed when someone tells him to, so when his star shook his head he was a bit surprised. Maybe the stars clinginess took over today, Akito smiled at the thought of seeing more sides of his star. He quickly, but thoroughly washed the dishes and tuned off the lights around the house.
Holding Tsukasas hand, he went up the stairs and went to his stars room.
—
Akito sat on the stars bed, waiting for Tsukasa to return from the bath.
Anytime Akito stayed over, Tsukasa always urged Akito to take a bath first or else he would be a bad host. Akito smiled softly to himself and checked his phone, messages from Ena asking if he was okay. He quickly replied, saying he was fine and was about to shut off his phone, when he had an idea to check the damn weather app.
“Fuck..I completely forgot this was an app.” Akito said aloud, he clicked on the weather icon and saw that the storm would calm down in 10 minutes, he sighed, relieved it would be over soon, finally turning off his phone, he waited for his star to return.
A few moments later, and there was still no blond hair arriving in the door, so Akito decided to go check up on him.
Once he reached the bathroom, he entered and called out from the other side of the sliding door,
“Senpai, are you okay?”
No response.
He cautiously opened the sliding door, and peeked to see if his boyfriend was okay, and as he expected he was, he was just….
sleeping in the bath again.
Akito rolled his eyes lovingly, and went over to the star. Gently poking Tsukasas cheek, he tried to be loud enough just in case if any thunder came by.
Tsukasa stirred a bit and opened his eyes slowly, he was met by lovingly eyes, which pretended to be annoyed.
“Hi Akito.”
“Hi to yourself.”
Tsukasa only smiled, and got up from laying down, he was now sitting up and turned his head back to his boyfriend.
“Make sure to dry yourself completely when you get out the bath, kay?” The ginger ruffled his boyfriends slightly damp hair and exited the bathroom, closing the doors behind him.
Tsukasa took a few more minutes to wash himself, drained the bath, changed into his pajamas, and he too left the bathroom, walking to his own room with his boyfriend waiting.
Once he entered the room, he noticed Akito had a towel in his hand.
“Hm? What’s that for Akito? Are you preparing yourself for your morning run?”
The star received a deadpanned glare, and a loving sigh.
Ah, it’s still nighttime. Tsukasa thought, mentally slapping himself.
“Not this time, come here.”
Akito patted to the spot next to him and Tsukasa seemed to get the idea, so he followed his boyfriend’s instructions and sat beside him, leaning back to put his body weight on the taller boy.
“Oi, I’m trying to dry your hair idiot.”
“I know!”
Rolling his eyes, Akito used the towel to gently dry the stars hair, Tsukasa relaxed at the gesture and put even more body weight on his boyfriend, one because he was comfortable with the boy, but also because he felt like getting on his nerves.
He looked up to Akito, who had an annoyed face, and in return he gave the ginger a toothy grin.
He then felt a soft kiss on his nose.
Tsukasas face immediately rushed red, and Akito stuck out his tongue, content that he caught his boyfriend off guard.
The star pouted and turned his head back around, not actually mad or anything at the boy, but just a bit embarrassed he got teased so easily.
Akito chuckled and went back to drying the stars hair as the two began to talk about their upcoming performances, a flash of lighting came by.
The ginger was ready to help comfort the blond, so he began to put the towel down when the thunder came by, but just like earlier, Tsukasa didn’t react.
He waited a moment after the thunder died down to check on his lover.
“..Senpai? Are you okay..?”
He felt Tsukasa nod against him, indicating he didn’t feel like talking, and not wanting to push any further, Akito continued to dry his hair, sitting in the strange silence.
—
After Akito was done drying the stars hair, he put the towel on the bedside table, and urged for Tsukasa to get off of him so he could properly put it away.
"Tsukasa-senpai, cmon, I need to put the towel in the basket.”, Akito made sure his tone was gentle, but firm, he wasn’t sure if the star was feeling okay or not, and he didn’t want to make him feel worse if he wasn’t.
Tsukasa stayed still for moment before sitting up and turning his body around to face his boyfriend.
Akito only stared at the star in front of him, he felt his cheeks heat up due to all of the attention.
“..What do ya need..?”
“..Akito, I love you.”
The stars voice was so quiet, that if Akito moved at that very moment he wouldn’t have heard it.
“..I love you too.” The ginger tried to look away, but he felt his boyfriends hands on his face, and as he leaned in, the star pressed a gentle kiss onto his lips.
He didn’t stop there either.
Tsukasa began to kiss Akito all over his face, leaving the latter happy, flustered, and confused.
“Oi, Senpai? Did you miss me or something?”, Akito said it in a teasing voice, but held onto the stars hands just in case.
Tsukasa pulled back a bit so he could face his boyfriend properly, he took a breath and leaned into the warm touches Akito left on his hands.
“Yeah…earlier I did.”
Tsukasa put his head into the crook of Akitos neck, and Akito soon forgot about the towel he was going to put away. He waited for Tsukasa to continue his words.
Tsukasa gripped onto Akitos hands a bit more tightly, and decided it was okay to tell his lover about his fear, though it seems like he already figured it out.
“..You know, I was scared of the storm tonight.”
Tsukasa waited for a reply, but one never came, just a warm hum from the other.
Tsukasas eyes softened, happy that Akito was very understanding.
“..I noticed your calls from earlier, only a moment ago, I’m sorry about that. I was probably trying to play the piano...or too busy on trying to focus on pretending that you were here.”
Tsukasa felt Akitos hands leave his own, and wrapped around his waist, and soon felt a tight embrace.
The star only snuggled in the crook of Akitos neck even more, enjoying the warmth that he was near.
“..Senpai.”
Tsukasa hummed in response, waiting for whatever his boyfriend would say, a little scared that Akito would scold him, but more happy to finally hear his voice.
“I’ll always be here for you.”
Those words are what made Tsukasas eyes immediately water, he finally wrapped his arms around Akitos back, returning the hug as he sobbed quietly.
Akito gently caressed the boys hair and lifted his face to kiss his tears away, his cheeks, his lips, and his forehead. He wanted the star to keep feeling safe and warm and he hoped that his kisses would remind Tsukasa that he would always be with him.
..It was a bit sappy, maybe even cheesy to some, but not for the two lovers who embraced each other tightly.
“..I really do mean it Tsukasa-senpai, I’ll always be here with you.”
Tsukasa gripped the boys shirt tightly, and dug deeper into Akitos neck.
Akito leaned back, so that the two of them could gently hit the pillows, and as he did that he pulled the blanket on to the both of them so they could be warm.
Akito listened carefully to Tsukasas breathing and the heavy rain outside. He knows there won’t be any more storms, but weather is always unpredictable after all.
Akito turned his body around to hug Tsukasa more tightly, and Tsukasa returned the same motions, the ginger could feel the stars smile against his neck and felt himself softly smiling as well.
Akito closed his eyes so he could urge the other to fall asleep, which worked, the stars breathing slowed down and his posture had relaxed, indicating he was almost in a deep sleep, but before Akito could also fall asleep,
he heard a soft warm voice saying,
“akito...i wouldn’t mind being in a storm with you..so thank you for loving me..i really love you…”
As the stars voice trailed off to a deep slumber, Akito could only whisper sweet and warm phrases to the star, as he too started to drift off to sleep.
A slight flash of lighting was seen before the ginger fully closed his eyes, and he hugged his boyfriend even tighter, he smiled into his sleep and felt Tsukasa do the same,
he also wouldn't mind being in a storm just as long as he was with his star.
