Work Text:
“999. What’s your emergency?”
“My boyfriend’s been stabbed.”
“He’s been stabbed? When?”
“Right now. We were going home, and a guy came up and asked for our money, and I said what for, and he had a knife, and Arthur jumped in front of me, and the guy stabbed him, and…”
“Okay, calm down. What’s your name?”
“Merlin”
“Merlin, where has your boyfriend the wound? Is he awake?”
“Yes, he is, but he’s bleeding. There’s blood everywhere.”
“Can you give me your location, Merlin?”
“Um, yes, we’re in Brockwell Park, right at the north entrance.”
“Great, an ambulance is on your way. How old is he?”
“Twenty-six. Please, please, hurry.”
“Where is the injury? Can you see it?”
“Yes, it’s on his side, under the ribcage, I think.”
“Okay. Can you put pressure on the wound?”
“Yes, I’ve been doing that all the time. But the bleeding’s not stopped.”
“You’re doing great, Merlin. Do you think I could talk a bit with Arthur?”
“I don’t know. Wait one moment.”
“Sure.”
“Hey, Arthur, the lady wants to talk to you.”
“Hello. Arthur?”
“Hello.”
“Hi. Now, do you have any pain when you breathe? Does it hurt, other than the wound?”
“No, I don’t. I’m not.”
“Okay, good, Arthur. Do you feel any cold?”
“No. Yes. A little.”
“Okay. Is Merlin still there? Can you give him the phone?”
“I’m here.”
“Good. Merlin, is Arthur lying down, or is he seated?”
“No, he is… We’re on the floor. He’s on my lap.”
“Can you put him on his side? And keep the pressure.”
“Yes, but I have to leave my phone.”
“I'm not going anywhere.”
“He’s on his side. I’ve covered him with my jacket.”
“Fantastic. You’re doing great, Merlin.”
“Hey, I think, I think he’s going to pass out. Hey Arthur, love, hey. Come on.”
“It’s fine, Merlin, you’re doing wonderfully. Just keep pressing the wound. It’s going to be fine. It’s not much longer until the ambulance arrives.”
“I think I can hear the siren. We were just going home.”
“Merlin, is Arthur alert? Has he lost consciousness?”
“No, no. His eyes are closed. And there is blood everywhere.”
“Can you feel his pulse? Try locating it on his neck. Can you do that?”
“Yes, I can feel it. It's strong.”
“That's great, Merlin. Help is nearly there.”
“Yes, they’re here. There's an ambulance.”
“Arthur is going to be fine.”
