Summary
The sycamores guarding the yard stand still and tall. Only the faintest breeze caresses the drying leaves, their rustling a lullaby for nocturnal creatures. Bucky stops at the top of the stone steps, trying to pick apart the tepid breath of night air; moonflower and jasmine, their sweetness almost overpowering the dying whisper of the withering garden.
It’s now nothing but the ashen dregs of a cruel summer, too long and hot to sustain the things it has given birth to.
