Work Text:
Early moonlight peaks through the high windows of an old library as a purple haired intruder pushes open the heavy doors, long shadows cast over his face as the moonlight reflected in his glasses. Kamishiro Rui is a regular at the old place, his eyes scanning over the familiar rows of books as he searches for something in particular. In his hand was a grocery bag filled with what smelled like fresh fruit and berries, the other narrowly avoiding splinters as it drags along the old wooden door. "Toya-kun?" He calls, closing the large door behind him.
The eerie light from the moon barely lit the library, cobwebs littered in every corner they could reach. Rui could see spiders crawling away into the cracks in the walls. The purple haired boy frequented the library, but he couldn't seem to find a way to get used to the way his skin crawled when he was in there alone at night.
A figure emerges from the shadows of the library, his face pale as a ghost's and hair falling majestically to his shoulders. Aoyagi Toya was a Dracula, the guardian of the library, a boy who looked and aged like a human, but shared characteristics with the vampire bat. He happened to be the grand guardian of the library between the monster and human realms, the very library that the two were standing in currently. "Rui." He sighed with a smile on his face, almost floating over to his lover as the other set down his bag and opened his arms for a hug.
Rui felt his feet leave the ground as he was spun around in the air, Toya's inhuman strength unsurprising to him after so many months of knowing each other. "I missed you." Rui whispers as Toya pulls him down into a hug, refusing to put him down. Toya smiles. "It's only been twelve hours." He states, causing Rui to grumble slightly. "Don't remind me." He says dramatically, placing the back of his hand on his forehead and leading his body back. Toya swung him around with ease, almost as if the two were dancing, scooping up Rui's legs and carrying him like a princess in his arms.
He chuckles at his dramatic boyfriend. "I see you've brought presents, as always." He says, looking over at the fruit. Rui smiles, placing a hand on Toya's chest to feel for his heartbeat- which he did have despite popular beliefs. "Mm yes." He replies, resting his head against Toya's shoulder and cuddling into his chest. "I know how little food you get to eat throughout the day, so I brought you some fruit I picked from the school garden. I grew it myself!" He says calmly, the pride in his creations shining through his voice.
Rui is a second year in university who happened to be studying supernatural history, the study of "extinct" supernatural creatures. It was convenient that he found Toya that same year, struggling to survive as one of the last of his kind. Rui also happened to be part of the greening committee at his school, growing fruits and plants in the school garden in his free hours before heading over to find Toya.
"I'm excited to try them." Toya replies, his words soaked in warm affection. He walks over to the bag of fruits and dips down Rui to prompt him to grab the bag, Rui picking it up and getting scooped up high again with the fruits now in hand. So Toya makes his way over to his little makeshift room in the back of the library where the sun couldn't reach during the day, the place he hung out at when the gateway to the monster world is quiet. Toya sets Rui down gently on the couch and takes his place on top of him, allowing his lover to feed him a strawberry.
The two lovers never found themselves in uncomfortable silence, just being able to bask in the other's presence was enough to satisfy them. But today Toya wanted to make conversation. "So how has your supernatural history course been going?" He asks, taking an apple and biting into it. Rui grimaces genuinely, gazing at an old tattered painting on the wall. "Not as well as I had hoped," He sighs, his eyes turning to watch as Toya turned over to face him, wrapping his arms around his ribs and resting his head on Rui's beating heart. "Apparently vampires were only known to drink the blood of their enemies and there are no records of them enjoying fruits and sweets." The boy rolls his eyes in annoyance, staring up at the ceiling again.
Toya frowned at Rui's frustrations, drawing circles on his back in an attempt to comfort him. "Well, we both know you're right and I'm sure your extensive research in my molar to canine ratio and general jaw structure will come back to you one day." Toya says, his voice soft as a lullaby in Rui's ears. He was convinced to look back into his boyfriend's silver eyes as Toya popped another berry into his mouth.
However, Rui wasn't convinced that his research would actually make it anywhere, and Toya definitely picked that up. "Maybe if I unveil myself to the public, your professor will finally believe that your findings make sense." He continues, leaving the genuine suggestion to rest in the air above the two lovers. Rui looks at him with a rare look of shock in his eyes, the look quickly fading away to be replaced with that iconic mischievous glint of his. "I would rather keep you a secret, my love." He says, watching as Toya pulled himself up to be at eye level with Rui. Their noses were practically touching, Toya's hair falling around Rui's face as he hovered over him with a small smile. Rui couldn't help but blush at the proximity, and he was sure Toya's face warmed up too.
"Wouldn't you like to have your discoveries made public?" He asks genuinely, tilting his head to the side in curiosity. Rui smiled. "Well of course, but having you all to myself is so much nicer." Rui sighs, his golden eyes filled with theatrical confidence. Toya blushes at his boyfriend's words. The pick up line wasn't even that great. It was actually pretty bad, but it made Toya want to pepper kisses all over the purple haired boy's face.
He sighs instead, shaking his head in mock disapproval- Rui made it easy to play along with his teasing. "You humans and your jealousy, you would sooner die than allow someone else to lay their eyes on your lover." Toya's hand makes it's way down to trace Rui's cheek and Rui leans into the touch, allowing Toya to caress his cheek gently. He smiles up at Toya through half lidded eyes, his smile ever so bright and mischievous. "Who wouldn't want to keep a man as perfect as you all to themselves." Rui replied, almost as if he was stating a fact.
That was it for Toya. Rui was going to continue, but he was ultimately cut short by the blue haired dracula's thumb against his chapped lips. Rui's face flushes completely with that bright red colour, all the way to the tips of his ears. Toya hadn't even done anything yet and he was already flustered. Rui closed his eyes in anticipation, feeling Toya retract his thumb and lean in for a kiss. But he missed, landing the kiss on Rui's blushing cheek instead.
Rui opened his eyes, looking at Toya with poorly hidden disappointment and confusion written all over his face. Toya was smiling back down at him, pressing another kiss to Rui's other cheek. He practically had Rui wrapped around his finger now, pressing kisses all over his face, anywhere but where Rui wanted them, and reducing Rui to a blushing giggly mush. "T- Toya!! That tickles!" He yelped, stumbling over his words between his laughter. Toya pulls away, opting to lay down next to Rui instead to allow him a moment to calm the heat that had risen to his face.
"How will you protect me if you're so easily defeated by kisses?" Toya says, allowing Rui to push himself against him for a hug. Rui smiles against Toya's chest, sighing as Toya places a firm hand on his back. "Every soldier has his weakness, you're like my Achilles Heel." Toya pulls back from Rui to give him a confused look, causing his boyfriend to laugh. "Achilles is from an old Greek myth about an unbeatable soldier who's one weaknesses was his heel. It's infamous among humankind, so I thought you would know about it." Rui explains, smiling at the genuine interest on Toya's face.
Toya was always a great listener, he knew exactly what to say and when to listen when Rui rambled about his studies or robots. "Hm, well maybe there are books about this Achilles man in this library." He says, getting up and pulling Rui to his feet with him.
The two boys explored the library's books together, looking at all the different authors and imagining what they could possibly be about. But after a while, Rui's movements became less energetic. Toya checks the time, his eyes widening as he realizes how late it is. "Rui, shouldn't you be going home by now? The sun will be rising in a few hours." He points out, holding Rui's shoulders to keep him steady. Rui blinks slowly, his eyes heavy with sleep. "Whaa… I'm not sleepy." He mumbles leaning onto Toya as he struggled to keep his eyes open.
Toya smiles fondly and picks up his boyfriend, watching his head go limp against his chest as he snuggles into his hold. "Mmh, taking me home?" He asks quickly. Toya nods. "I'll be quick, my love." He replies, his voice low and comforting. "Okay." Rui sighs, seemingly drifting off to sleep. Toya leaps up the bookcases in nimble strides, pushing open a large window with his back and plunging into the night with his boyfriend safely in his arms. The whistle of the wind and leaves in the air follow him as he jumps from roof to roof to get to Rui's apartment.
The wind chill made Rui shiver slightly, making Toya's strides speed up. Soon enough, the two boys make it to Rui's windowsill, his window left unlocked for Toya to open quietly. The blue haired dracula creeps inside, silently making his way through the apartment and finding Rui's room, tenderly taking off his jacket and shoes before tucking him into bed. As Toya was about to leave, he felt a hand snatch his and hold him back. "Wait." Rui whispers, making Toya turn back.
Rui pulls Toya in by his collar, pressing a soft and sweet kiss to his lips and pulling him down so that he's hanging over the bed. Toya kisses Rui back with matching sweetness, pushing his fingers through Rui's hair and taking his place over top of his boyfriend. He tilts Rui's head up and feels his fangs begin to poke out as he tests the waters by licking Rui's bottom lip, feeling a guilty wave of disappointment when Rui pulls away.
"No bites tonight, someone might see." Rui whispers, his words slurred together with sleep. Toya's lips trailed down Rui's chin and neck as his teeth retracted, pressing light kisses to his neck without attacking it. Rui soon places his hands on Toya's chest, as if he was saying that was enough. Toya simply obeys with a smile. "I love you, Rui." He says quietly. Rui smiles sleepily. "I love you too, Toya-kun." He replies, drifting back to sleep.
Toya leaves the room with a proud smile, leaping out the window again without even noticing a certain pink haired roommate staring at him with their jaw on the floor.

"So what's with the boyfriend, Rui." Rui spits out his coffee, staring at Mizuki with his eyes wide open like a deer in headlights. "Pardon me?" Mizuki laughs at his exaggerated reaction. "Ya know, the tall, dark and mysterious man that came in here with you, tucked you into bed and kissed you before leaving through the window?" Mizuki presses. Rui feels all his blood rush to his face in his embarrassment.
"I'm not sure I know what you mean, Mizuki-kun." Rui argues, trying his best to keep his cat-like smile on his face. Mizuki rolls their eyes, walking up to Rui and poking his side as punishment for his little lie. Rui yelps and ducks away from Mizuki as they continued. "Don't think I didn't hear you making out with that sparkly blue haired boy in bed, with the door open might I add." They accused. Rui blushed further as Mizuki continued "It's a wonder how you pulled a man so handsome." Rui looks away bashfully "Ah. Yes he is quite handsome." Shit. He didn't mean to say that.
Rui's face is about as hot as a laptop gets when it tries to run minecraft. Mizuki shakes their head mockingly. "You have a lot to explain to me, Kamishiro." They snicker, a teasing smirk plastered on their face. Rui sighs, he knew what his day was going to be like already. "That I do…"
