Atsushi wondered if he should go inside, the party was already taking place and he could hear the music coming from the inside. He walked around the entrance one more time, this wasn't his scene, actually, this was the furthest thing from his scene, he would much rather be in his home curled up on his bed but he had already promised the Tanizaki’s that he would go and he was scared of what Naomi and Lucy would do if he never showed up.
Just when he was about to take another anxious walk around an annoyed voice interrupted him.
“Are you going in or not?”- The voice was deep and a little raspy, startled, Atsushi turned around coming face to face with a guy dressed as a classic old-century vampire.
“Yes!”- He exclaimed and walked quickly inside ignoring the deep sigh the man let out.
Finally, inside he looked around desperately trying to find his friends in the multitude of people, he stood there helpless when he could not see them easily.
“You are blocking the way again angel”- The same man spoke, different from him walking confidently inside without a care. Atsushi had half a mind to start blushing at the pet name when he remembered what he was currently wearing, an all-white outfit with short shorts and a tight caffarena, on his back two small angel wings, and on his head a fluffy halo.
“Sorry, I just, I can’t find my friends”- He tried to explain.
He could feel the guy look him up and down before he spoke again- “Need me to keep you some company?”- He offered with a sly grin, it was dangerous, Atsushi could feel it, but there was something alluring about the guy, it called Atsushi and pulled him towards him despite his most rational thinking.
“Okay”- The guy’s grin grew wider at his answer.
“Let me serve you a drink”- The man offered coming closer to hold him by the waist and guiding him to another place of the old abandoned mansion they were in. The place had been abandoned for many years, every Halloween the teenagers of the town used it to throw parties, and even people from other places would come to celebrate with them in the beautiful abandoned place, he imagined this guy was one of them, if Atsushi was more focused on what was happening and not on the stranger’s handsome face and graceful touch he would have noticed the way he seemed to be completely familiarized with the building despite not being from there.
“What would you like?”- The stranger asked him when they finally reached the old wine cellar that held various types of liquor.
“Uh, anything is fine”- Atsushi hesitantly answered letting the guy take the reins again, something that he seemed to enjoy. Once he held a glass of a drink he was told was a classic gin fizz cocktail and the guy had served himself from one of the dusty old wine bottles they didn't even think were good to drink anymore they left the cellar. “You are not from here are you?”- He finally asked while they drank their respective drinks in one of the most secluded corners of the ballroom.
“You could say I used to live here, a long, long time ago”- He answered- “I assume you are?”
“I am, born and raised, I haven't even left the town ever yet”- He laughed.
“Interesting”- He commented- “What would your name be, little bird?”
“Oh, I’m Atsushi”- He offered his hand to shake but the other leaned down to place a gentle kiss on his knuckles, Atsushi could feel the blood rushing to his head.
“Akutagawa, at your service”- He said simply.
They continued talking for a while, occasionally Atsushi wondered if maybe he should go back to searching for his friends but every time Akutagawa managed to distract his mind again with a curious tale of adventure or a flirt that had him blushing and weak.
“Are you visiting only for this party?”- Atsushi asked him.
“No, I was already here, finding this little get-together was a mere coincidence”- Akutagawa explained.
“Then… why are you here?”- He questioned curiously.
“Just visiting my old place, I have been a little nostalgic as of late”- Akutagawa commented.
“Well, then it’s lucky you already had a costume”- He joked, the man laughed but for some reason, Atsushi felt they weren't enjoying the same joke.
“Yes, I guess it is rather lucky”- The man smiled, and before Atsuhi could ask for more information Akutagawa raised his hand to him.
“Can I have this dance?”- Akutagawa asked offering his hand, the music had switched from the usual modern and trendy pop to something a little more classical, it was tradition to include at least a couple of songs like that at every party playlist that was played at that place, it started as an offering for the old owners of the place and continued as just something fun for the more romantic couples, never could Atsushi imagine himself dancing there, still, he did not hesitate to grab the hand offered.
Akutagawa guided them towards the dance floor and started to move with him to the music, one hand on Atsushi’s hand and the other one on his waist, he moved elegantly, Atsushi felt like a piece in a music box, perfectly choreographed and moving to the rhythm fluid and powerful. Akutagawa occasionally twirled or dipped him, it didn't feel random, like the steps for a long-forgotten dance.
Atsushi realized people were looking at them, admiring and entranced, he would be too if he wasn't the one dancing, among the many eyes on them he could finally see his friends, they looked surprised to see him, even more surprised when they noticed who he was dancing with. He mouthed a silent sorry towards them and hoped they wouldn't be too mad, he just couldn't get away now.
In one of the twirls they stopped in front of the long mirror that covered one of the walls, with all the years it was dusty and partially covered in weeds, when Akutagawa dipped him he could see himself, but he could not see Akutagawa, it was only a second yet he was so sure of it, he tensed on the other’s hold and turned his head to look him in the face only to have the grinning face looking back.
“You-”- Atsushi started, he wasn't even sure how to continue the sentence.
“I”- Akutagawa responded in a teasing tone. Atsushi wanted to do something, scream, run away, anything, but his body would not move, he tried to think of something when the song came to an end, they heard clapping but Akutagawa ignored it in favor of pulling him out of the dance floor again when the modern music came back on.
Atsushi followed behind him, being pulled to a different room far away when he could barely hear the music, it resembled what once probably was a bedroom, he didn't think he had been there before, everyone always stuck to the ballroom and their adjacents.
“You are not human”- Atsushi finally spoke.
“I am not”- Akutagawa confirmed.
“What are you?”- Atsushi asked knowing exactly what he was but refusing to accept it until he heard it, his clothes, the way he spoke, his strange tales, his knowledge of the place, and finally the way he could not be seen in the mirror- “Tell me what you are”- He pleaded.
“A vampire”- Akutagawa whispered, Atsushi didn't realize when the other had come so close, he could feel his cold body pushing against his, his shallow breath caressing the pulse point of his throat that was beating faster with every second. “If you truly don't want this, if I truly scare you, this is your chance to run away”- Akutagawa warned leaving trails of red with his sharp teeth on his sensitive skin.
He didn't move, for the first time in his life Atsushi knew what he wanted and it was this, the danger, the way Akutagawa made him feel alive, he wanted all of it, so he did not move, he waited and he felt the man smile next to his face, he took a deep breath in preparation when he heard Akutagawa do the same. Finally, it happened.
Atsushi could feel the sharp teeth puncture the delicate skin of his neck, the feeling made him shiver even more when Akutagawa started sucking the blood that escaped from his neck, restless and impatient like he had been starving for him, like Atsushi was the most delicious meal he had in a long time and he couldn't get enough of the taste, a small sound broke free from his throat when he felt yet another bite in the same place, Akutagawa’s tongue going over the wound almost apologetically.
“You taste like heaven, angel”- Akutagawa praised when he managed to pull himself away from his throat after a few seconds, Atsushi could barely hear him, mind clouded in what he was no longer sure was pain.
Akutagawa grabbed him by the waist and sat him atop one of the wooden tables, finally allowing his tired body a break.
“I’m sorry love, I might have done too much”- Akutagawa apologized trying to clean the little drops of spilled blood that were on his white collar, not having much luck.
“I’m fine”- He breathed out after taking a moment to gather his mind- “I can just say that’s part of the costume”- He said pointing to the stains. He felt Akutagawa’s hand go to his throat and he shivered, all he felt was a bandage covering the wound.
“I hope you think of some way to explain that too”- He said before pulling away- “I have to go, I was not supposed to stay this long, but worry not, I will see you again angel”- Akutagawa gave a farewell kiss to his hand, a show of his old-time manners. Before Atsushi could speak again the man was gone, merged perfectly with the darkness of the night.
Completely alone, Atsushi felt himself beginning to smile little by little, ears and tail popping from their hidden places, his feline eyes shone in the dark night, a vampire and a werecat, what would his friends think?
