He will say yes.
Dion watches Joshua putter around the kitchen making breakfast. The rainy morning makes him grumpy and sluggish and he grumbles to himself while flipping the pancakes. His hair is sticking every which way in messy curls, the old t-shirt he's wearing is so worn it's almost see through and it has a tear in the hem but Joshua refuses to throw it away. He's perfect and Dion's heart feels so full with the knowledge that he can share these moments with Joshua. There's no reason why he has waited for so long.
Joshua turns around, yawning wide and pushes a plate of pancakes in front of Dion before he flops on his chair with the second mug of coffee for the morning.
He's going to ask, soon. Joshua wouldn't say no, he's sure of it.

Dion stares at the simple golden bands in the tiny box on his palm. Having these in his possession makes his plan all real and tangible. They’ve lived together for four years now and their lives are already so intertwined that maybe a proposal really isn't necessary, but he wants it to be official. He knows -has known from the start- that Joshua is it for him. He's really going to do it.
Surely he will say yes?
He closes the box and tucks it into his pocket. He will ask, soon. When the moment is right.

Joshua is laughing at the book he's reading. Curled up on the sofa, wrapped up in a blanket, his shoulders shaking with uncontained giggles.
"You need to read this too after I'm done," Joshua lifts his gaze from the pages to look at Dion, and he's so beautiful it takes Dion's breath away. He can't get a word out so he just smiles back and nods. How can it be that they've been together for almost five years and Joshua still has this effect on him?
He will say yes, won't he?
Maybe he is happy with the way their life is now, maybe this is enough. Dion can't be sure until he asks.

The park is lovely at this time of the year. Not as beautiful as Joshua, but still lovely. They're strolling through a quiet path surrounded by wild flowers, in the shade of old trees. This could be the moment, he thinks. There's no one else nearby, no one to witness if Dion is wrong and Joshua doesn't say yes. The little box in his pocket suddenly weighs like lead.
But he wouldn't say no, would he?
Joshua leans down to pick a purple wildflower and twirls it in his fingers before he tucks it behind Dion's ear, smiling the whole time.
"It suits you," he assures Dion before he turns around and crouches down to pick a few more flowers to take home.
The moment passes. But there will be other moments.

Dion sneezes, sniffling miserably. Catching a cold wasn't a part of his plans, they were supposed to go on a weekend trip to Kanver, but here they are stuck at home. A romantic getaway would have been a good chance to ask the question, but now it's better to wait. Maybe he can finally come up with a proper speech.
One that will ensure he'll say yes.
Joshua brings him a cup of honeyed tea and presses his palm on Dion's forehead to check his temperature. The touch is soothing and Dion feels a bit better just by it, like the touch itself is healing his aches. His thoughts scatter when Joshua curls up next to him, tucking himself against his side like a clingy space heater.
He can think of the speech later. This isn't the right moment anyway.

It's their fifth anniversary. Dion finally has a speech prepared, and today he will ask. He's waited for this long enough. He hopes with all his heart the answer will be yes. They're having dinner at home, all their favorites, and there will be no distractions.
Joshua puts on a song after dessert. A slow ballad, one of the many they have danced to over the years. The lyrics are lost to Dion because he knows this is the right moment, this is it . They sway to the music together, and Dion tries to relax, tries to feel confident when Joshua pulls away from the embrace, a blush on his cheeks. Dion's breath hitches when Joshua drops down to his knee, holding Dion's hands.
"Dion Lesage, I love you and I want to spend my life with you." Joshua looks up at him with such adoration that for a moment Dion forgets he was the one who was supposed to ask Joshua first. "Will you marry me?"
There’s only one correct answer to that.
Dion gets on his knee, level with Joshua and pulls the box of rings from his pocket. "And I want to spend my life with you. Will you marry me back?" He has to stifle a hysteric little giggle. This wasn't in his plans but Joshua always has a way to surprise him. Joshua is blinking away tears, his smile radiant.
"Yes! Of course yes!”
"I had a whole speech prepared, but you were faster than I." Dion stands up, helping Joshua to his feet. He wonders if he would even have remembered all the things he'd planned to say.
“I am sure it was a good one. But I asked first and you didn't give me your answer yet," Joshua pouts and Dion just wants to kiss him. His fiance. His husband to be. So he does. He kisses Joshua like it's the first kiss of the rest of their lives.
"Yes."
