Chapter Text

When it came to getting gifts for his girlfriend, Yuto was frequently at a loss, but this time, he had the perfect idea.

He'd had an extensive conversation with Shay, as well as a few baking lessons (he had not known that Shay was such a good baker), and that had helped Yuto make up his mind. He got together the ingredients - enough that he could practice a bit, as he wanted nothing less than perfection for Lulu - and got to work, spending several days working on his new project. Some of his attempts were more successful than others, but in the end, he was able to make something he could say he was proud of.

Next was delivering the precious cargo. Yuto took great care to box up the dessert he'd made in a way that it wouldn't be easily damaged if it was jostled, and then he went to the Obsidians' house... and was greeted at the door by Shay. The older sibling regarded Yuto with a critical eye, paying special attention to the box he carried.

"...You finally got it right?" Despite his initial reaction, Shay seemed pleased. "I'm sure she'll love it."

"I hope so," Yuto murmured, blushing. He was still a bit nervous about this whole ordeal, but at least Shay approved - something that Yuto had not expected before.

"Trust me, she will," Shay insisted, and then he turned around, raising his voice. "Hey, Lulu, come here! Yuto's got something for you!"

Shay's words just made Yuto blush even harder - he'd hoped that this would pass without much fanfare, but Shay had always had a flair for the dramatic, even before the war. Especially when it came to his beloved sister...

It took a moment for Lulu to arrive, and when she did, she looked as if she hadn't been expecting a visitor. She was dressed in a light nightgown, pale lavender in color, and Yuto couldn't help but stare - it looked lovely on her.

With the approach of his sister, Shay took his leave, disappearing into the house. Yuto knew that the falcon's eyes would be on him for the duration of his time here, but at least he wasn't scared this time.

"Yuto?" Lulu inspected the box as her brother had, and then she tilted her head. "What is it?"

"I... I just... made something for you..." Yuto averted his gaze, and he was sure his face was a spectacular shade of red right now. "I thought that... I didn't know what you'd like, but..."

Lulu gave him a cute smile. "It's okay, I appreciate the sentiment." She reached out and took the box, then opened it - and her eyes immediately lit up. "Oh, this looks delightful!"

A chocolate cream pie, with perfectly fluted crust and a swirl pattern on the top. Yuto silently wondered if he should have used a graham cracker crust... well, there was always next time.

"...I asked Shay," Yuto admitted, and he scratched the back of his neck with his hand. "I didn't know he could bake."

"Oh, he's the best," Lulu asserted, and then she giggled. "Well, next to you."

Those words made Yuto smile through his blush, and he had to resist the urge to hug Lulu - that would have to wait until she put the pie down. The fact that she liked his gift, and had even complimented his skill, was...

This was the best day of Yuto's life - even better than when Lulu had asked him out that first time so long ago. He hotly anticipated sharing the pie with his girlfriend... and most likely her brother as well, though that was hardly a problem.

After all, Shay deserved thanks for all the help he'd provided... even if he was kind of embarrassing.

Notes:

Unfortunately, it's not so easy to shake the Angry Bird Boy. I believe he would be very supportive, though!
