Love and Regret

Summary:

Hayate Gekkou just was given his orders to help out with the Chunin exam, and on his way home he meet his girlfriend Yūgao , who has some worries about the future. This was written on November 2, which is Hayate's birthday and Yūgao birthday is November 3rd. For my first one shot it was a sad one. Not my normal, but I hope you enjoyed none the less.

Work Text:

Hayate Gekko stood before the Hokage of Konohagakure, Hiruzen Sarutobi, his posture straight and respectful. The young ninja regarded the elderly leader, his eyes filled with determination and loyalty. Hiruzen Sarutobi, known as the Third Hokage, spoke with a firm yet gentle voice, entrusting Hayate with a crucial responsibility.

Hayate attentively listened as the Third Hokage issued his command. He was to oversee a significant part of the Chunin exam, a pivotal event in the village where aspiring young ninjas proved their skills and determination. Specifically, Hayate was tasked with supervising the one-on-one fights between students. These battles were more than mere tests of strength; they were opportunities for the young ninjas to demonstrate their abilities and prove their worthiness for greater responsibilities in the future.

As Hayate received his orders, he felt a mix of pride and duty wash over him. He understood the importance of his role in shaping the future of Konohagakure. With a nod of acknowledgment, he pledged to fulfill his duty with unwavering dedication, ready to ensure the fairness and integrity of the upcoming Chunin exams.

Hayate walked out of the office and then headed to look over the details of the people that were expected to be there. He wanted to know who these individuals were and what they could do. He knew that taking care of many things regarding the mission was important. He walked as he would suddenly see a purple haired woman following him. He knew his girlfriend was trying to sneak up on him.

After leaving the Hokage's office, Hayate made his way to a secluded area where he could meticulously review the profiles of the participants expected to attend the Chunin exams. He understood the gravity of his task; being well-informed about each candidate was crucial to ensuring a fair and challenging competition.

Lost in his thoughts, Hayate strolled purposefully, his mind focused on the mission at hand. Suddenly, his keen senses detected a presence trailing him. Turning slightly, he caught a glimpse of vibrant purple hair, instantly recognizing the person behind him. A small, knowing smile played on his lips; he was well aware that his girlfriend, Yūgao, was attempting to sneak up on him.

Hayate slowed his pace, allowing Yūgao to catch up. He turned around, his eyes sparkling with affection as he looked at her. "You know, you're not very subtle," he teased, his voice carrying a warm undertone. Despite the seriousness of the upcoming exams, he appreciated her playful spirit, finding solace in her presence amidst the responsibilities that weighed on his shoulders.

Yūgao chuckled softly, her eyes meeting his with a playful glint. "I couldn't resist trying," she replied, her tone light. "But I also wanted to remind you to take a break, Hayate. You've been working so hard lately."

Hayate nodded appreciatively, touched by her concern. "I will," he promised, his gaze softening. "But first, let's go through these profiles together. Your insights might help me see something I've missed."

Hand in hand, they continued their walk, their fingers interlaced as they delved into the details of the candidates. In that moment, the weight of their duties seemed a little lighter, knowing they faced the challenges together.

“So, these sound and sand ninja kind of worry me, we shouldn’t have let Orochimaru enter into the exam. He is going to just be trouble, and I don’t trust the Sand recently, they have kind of gone off the deep end. They both give me chills, like they are up to something. Not sure why, just call it a gut feeling.”

Yūgao's concerns resonated with Hayate, and he nodded in agreement as they continued to review the profiles of the participants. "I share your apprehensions," he admitted, his brows furrowing slightly. "Orochimaru's presence is indeed unsettling, and we can't underestimate the potential trouble he might cause. His intentions have always been shrouded in darkness."

Turning his attention to the Sand Village's representatives, Hayate sighed. "And the Sand... you're right, they've been acting strangely lately. Their sudden alliance with Orochimaru doesn't sit well with me either. It's as if they're up to something, and I can't shake the feeling that it's not for the benefit of the Hidden Leaf or the other villages."

Yūgao looked at him with concern, her eyes reflecting the unease they both felt. "What do you think we should do, Hayate?"

He contemplated for a moment; his gaze fixed on the profiles before them. "For now, let's keep a close watch on their movements during the exams," he suggested. "We can't be too obvious, but we must remain vigilant. If they show any signs of disrupting the event or posing a threat, we'll need to take action swiftly."

As Hayate expressed his resolve and mentioned keeping an eye on the potentially troublesome participants, a worrisome cough escaped him. It was a sign that both he and Yūgao recognized as an ominous omen, a signal of impending danger or challenges on the horizon.

The couple walked back to Hayate's house in silence, their shared concern weighing heavily on them. Yūgao couldn't help but feel a sense of foreboding, a deep-seated worry about what might lie ahead. Her intuition sensed that the path they were on was fraught with peril, though she chose to keep her thoughts to herself at that moment.

Hayate looked into Yūgao's eyes, and he could sense the genuine concern and fear in her voice. He gently squeezed her hand in reassurance, a solemn expression on his face.

"I understand your worry, Yūgao," he replied softly, his voice filled with sincerity. "But I want you to know that I'm dedicated to my duty, and I'll do everything in my power to protect our village and its people. That's a promise I intend to keep."

He brought her hand to his lips and placed a gentle kiss on it, a symbol of his unwavering commitment to her and the village. "We'll face whatever challenges come our way together. And no matter what, I'll always come back to you."

“Yes, I know, I just had this worry, that some things would go that way, and I would be left without you, I don’t know what I would do then,” Yūgao said softly getting words out she felt she had to.

Hayate's heart ached for Yūgao as he heard the vulnerability in her voice. He pulled her into a warm embrace, holding her tightly as if trying to shield her from the fears that haunted her. "I understand your fear, Yūgao," he whispered, his voice gentle and reassuring. "But I believe in us, in our strength, and in the love we share. No matter what happens, we'll find a way through it together. You won't be alone, I promise."

He gently tilted her chin up to meet his gaze, his eyes filled with unwavering determination. "We can't predict the future, but we can cherish the present and face it with courage. And if the worst were to happen, remember that our love will always endure, transcending any obstacle or boundary."

As they walked together, Yūgao's words carried a mixture of hope and uncertainty. Little did she know that their path would soon take an unexpected and devastating turn. The journey of life often holds both joy and sorrow, and for Yūgao, the looming tragedy was about to shatter her world.

A few weeks later, Yūgao found herself standing in front of a grave, the final resting place of the man she loved, Hayate Gekko. His sacrifice and dedication to protecting the village had cost him his life, and his absence left an indelible void in her heart.

The weight of grief and loss overwhelmed Yūgao, and her world crumbled around her. The future they had hoped for had been torn asunder, and she was left to grapple with the profound sorrow of losing the man who had meant everything to her.

In the face of such a tragic and unexpected turn of events, Yūgao would find herself on a different path, one filled with the challenges of healing, remembering, and, eventually, moving forward.
