Work Text:
“Aunt Angela.” Says Ava’s voice from Lucy’s chair. Angela peeks over at her six year old goddaughter who she is keeping an eye on while Tim and Lucy finish some last minute work up. Angela doesn’t mind, Ava is a ball of energy and chaotic and she embraces it.
“What’s up Ava?” She asks the little girl. Ava slides out of the chair and walks slowly to Angela’s desk, once she’s there she looks up at Angela.
“I have a question.” She says. Angela freezes for a moment because the last time Ava had a question Tim yelled at her for letting his daughter sing daddy cop (which was Smitty’s fault).
“What’s your question Ava.” She says hoping it’s not too out of the box. Oh who was she kidding this was Ava, the kid had no filter.
“Well I was going to get a drink of water last night and when I came back I passed by mommy and daddy’s room and I heard noises.” She says.
Angela raises her eyebrows. “What kind of noises?” She asks Ava.
Ava shrugs. “Loud noises. What were they doing?” She asks and Angela really does freeze this time.
She has a feeling she knows exactly what they were doing. “Uh…” Starts Angela. “They were uh jumping on the bed.”
Ava frowns at her and she looks exactly like Tim when she does. “That’s not fair! They said I can’t jump on the bed! Why do they get to?”
Angela looks around the station desperately hoping Tim or Lucy would coming running up. But the bullpen is relatively empty.
“They are grown ups Ava. Grown ups get to jump on beds.” She says shrugging trying to seem casual about it.
“Do you jump on your bed?” Ava asks tilting her head and Angela blows out a breath.
“Uh yes?” She says. Ava frowns even more and crosses her arms.
“Not fair!” She says stomping her feet a little. Angela is about to reply but then Lucy comes hurrying up behind them. Ava’s face softens a little when she sees her and she jumps into Lucy’s arms.
Angela blows out yet another breath hoping this was a one time conversation.

Angela should have known that Ava would not let this go. Angela is over at Tim and Lucy’s house for a play date with the kids. She sees Ava in a corner her back turned and her shoulders slumped. Angela frowns because Ava usually is all over the place and Jack the minute they walk through the door.
Angela stands and walks over to Ava bending down so she can see her.
“Hey Ava.” She says quietly. “Don’t you want to play?” The little girl doesn’t answer right away, and Angela is about to ask what’s wrong when Ava turns to her with tears in her eyes.
“Ava.” Says Angela softly. “What’s wrong honey?” Ava’s lip trembles as she turns to face Angela fully.
“I heard more noises last night and it sounded like daddy was hurting mommy.” Ava says softly. Angela almost chokes on her tongue but regains her composure.
“Oh sweetie. I don’t—”
“Daddy wouldn’t hurt mommy would he?” Ava asks her voice breaking and Angela shakes her head no.
“No Ava. Your daddy loves your mommy very much. They were just—”
“Jumping on the bed?” Ava supplies. Angela sucks in a breath before nodding at her goddaughter.
“Yes.” She says. Ava still looks worried. “Your dad probably just pushed your mom.” Ava’s face completely changes and goes from sad to mad in seconds. She jumps up and matches to where Tim is in the kitchen getting something for Daisy.
Ava hits Tim on the leg and he turns around startled, Angela snorts and probably should say something but she’s frozen to the floor.
“Ava! Why—” Tim starts but Ava shakes her head at him, glaring at him her little hands in fists.
“Why did you push mommy?” She says angrily. Tim’s jaw drops as he looks at his daughter.
“I didn’t push—” Tim starts
“Aunt Angela said you did!”Ava cries. Tim looks up and looks at Angela, a scowl on his face.
“Baby. I did not push mommy.” He says gently to Ava. “I promise.” But Ava swats his leg again and runs off to find Lucy.
Tim puts down what he’s doing and makes his way over to Angela. “Explain.” He says. Angela opens her mouth.
“Uh—” She says and she’s not sure how to tell Tim his six year old heard him having sex with Lucy.
But Ava comes back in the room with Lucy in tow. “Apologize now!” She tells Tim. And she’s still frowning and glaring at her dad. It takes everything in Angela not to burst out laughing.
“Ava—” Lucy says. “Your dad didn’t—”
“Well something was going on!” Ava yells. There’s stunned silence as all three of them exchange looks.
“Yes, daddy pushed me.” Lucy blurts out quickly ignoring Tim’s protest. “But I pushed him first.”
Ava looks between her parents and turns up her chin. “You both deserve timeout.” She says sounding annoyed. “And I’m going to go jump on my bed!”
She stomps out of the room and Tim and Lucy turn to Angela. Lucy looks amused but Tim looks annoyed like Ava.
Angela raises her hands. “This is on you both.” She says.

A few days later, Ava is once again at the station sitting in Lucy’s chair and spinning around.
“Angela.” She says. Angela looks over at her, bracing for what’s about to come out of her mouth.
“Yes Ava?” She says. Ava stops spinning and jumps off the chair.
“Mommy and daddy went on a date last night.” She starts and Angela nods. She and Wesley had babysat all four kids. It went well and Ava just played with Jack and didn’t ask her anything else about jumping on the bed.
And Angela really thought she was in the clear…
“Yeah they did.” Says Angela.
“Well I was up and getting some water and I saw mommy’s green dress in the hallway.” Ava says.
Angela sighs and rubs her temple wondering why Ava couldn’t tell this to someone else. And why was she always getting up to get water? She looks around and sees Nyla looking at them a amused expression on her face. She gets up from her seat and comes closer.
“Maybe it was laundry day.” Angela suggests.
Ava shakes her head. “I also heard more noises and daddy was saying stuff.”
“What kind of stuff Ava?” Nyla asks. Angela looks up at her friend and shakes her head, she really didn’t want to go down this road.
“He was saying mommy was sexy, hot and stuff like that.” Ava says. “They were jumping on the bed again.” Nyla bursts out laughing and Angela groans looking up at the ceiling.
“What’s going on?” Tim’s voice sounds behind them and they all turn to see Tim staring at them with raised eyebrows.
“Daddy! Daddy!” Ava squeals. She runs towards him and he bends down opening his arms and catching her.
“We were just talking about what Ava heard last night.” Nyla says her smile big. “Noises.”
Tim groans and picks Ava up. “Cover your ears baby.” He tells. But Ava doesn’t do it.
“Why? You were jumping on the bed again.” Says Ava. Tim stares at his daughter in disbelief and then turns to Angela who is trying to hide her laughter. Nyla however is doing nothing to cover up her laughter.
“Really Lopez? Jumping on the bed?” Tim says. Angela just shakes her head as Nyla continues to laugh besides them.
Angela sees Lucy walking towards them, her bag on her shoulder and her eyes narrowed as she approaches them.
“Uh.. what’s going on?” She asks. Tim sets Ava on the ground and pulls her towards his legs. She has a slight frown on her face, probably from the thought of Tim and Lucy jumping on the bed.
“Ava heard noises last night.. again.” Tim tells Lucy through gritted teeth. Lucy flushes red as she looks at Ava.
“And your green dress was on the ground.” Nyla supplies. Lucy flushes even more red and she reaches around and grabs Ava’s hand.
“Come on Aves.” She says. She gives them all one last look and then she’s hurrying out of the station.
Angela turns to Tim and he’s scowling at them both. “Shut up.” He mumbles.
“I mean we know you have a healthy sex life Bradford. You have four kids. But damn.” Nyla says.
Tim continues to scowl at them and then he’s stomping off mumbling something jumping on the bed are you fucking kidding me?
Angela stares after them and shakes her head at her friends retreating back.

Tim comes up to Angela the next day a scowl on his face. She raises her eyebrows at expression.
“Because of you we can’t get Ava to stop jumping on her bed. Because it’s not fair grown ups get to do it.” He says.
“Tim—”
Tim holds up his hand. “That being said. We are going to make sure Ava has water before she goes to bed so she doesn’t hear.. anything.”
Angela snorts. “Smart plan.” She says. “By the way I know way more about your sex life than I ever wanted to.”
Tim rolls his eyes at her just as Ava comes running up to her, a mischievous smile on her face.
“Aunt Angela I have a question for you.”
Angela just groans loudly.
