Work Text:
“Can I talk to you?” Tim asks Lucy. She looks up from the desk and bites her lip but nods. He leads her to an interview room. Tim’s stomach churns as he remembers how a gun was pointed at her.
He felt like he could have thrown up then and he feels a little nauseous now just picturing it in his mind. She leans against the wall her arms behind her back as she looks at him probably wondering why he pulled her in here.
“Why did you jump out of the car?” He asks her trying to keep his voice calm and steady but he’s probably not doing a good job.
“There was a gun pointed at you.” She says simply. “What was I suppose to do?”
“Not reveal that you are a cop for one.” Tim says a little snappily. Lucy doesn’t flinch though.
Her face becomes hard as she stares at him. “You still don’t think I can do it huh? You still don’t believe in me or trust me to do undercover work. Even after everything that happened you still see me as your rookie.” She says. And he shakes his head moving towards her quickly.
“Of course I believe in you Lucy. I meant what I said in Vegas. You are good at this.” He says. “It’s just…” He trails off and Lucy steps off the wall but only just.
“It’s just what Tim?” She says and she looks at him as if she’s challenging him.
“I worry about you.” He admits and her face changes slightly and it’s softer.
“Why?” She asks.
Tim blows out a breath and rubs his temple. Why? She wants to know why he worries about her. She wants to know why his heart almost stopped beating when he saw that gun pointed at her, hell when he felt like the ground was going to collapse beneath his feet when Caleb kidnapped her.
And there is a simple answer, at least for him. But it’s a lot more complicated saying it out loud at least right now. He loves her.
“Because if I lost you.. my life wouldn’t be the same. It would be grief and hopelessness. And I don’t want to feel that ever. And I don’t want to live a life without you in it.” He says and her eyes widen slightly.
“Tim.” She whispers her voice now heavy with tears. “What are you—”
“It wasn’t pretend to me.” He says. She steps closer to him and once she’s closer, he can see she’s visibly shaking. “I know it was to you but I’m just getting it out—”
He’s cut off by Lucy’s lips crashing into his. He stumbles backwards at the mere force of it but he regains it and his hands are on her face pulling her closer.
They only break apart when the need to breathe becomes evident. Tim backs her back into the wall and rests his forehead against hers. He’s still a little breathless and his heart is pounding.
“Lucy.” He breathes.
She blinks up at him, her brown eyes vulnerable. “I lied.” She starts and tightens her grip on him so he won’t move away from her. As if. He couldn’t move away from her if he tried, she’s intoxicating in the best way possible. “I lied because I was scared about my feelings for you and how I didn’t want to lose you but today…”
She takes a deep breath before continuing. “Today when I saw that gun pointed at you. It was as if my world stopped spinning on its axis. I thought I could lose you for real.”
Tim reaches up to cup her face gently. He tucks some hair behind her ear and she smiles at the movement.
“I know it’s scary. Hell I’m scared too.. but I—”
“You want to give it a chance?” She asks. Tim nods his head and caresses her cheek.
“I do.”
“And you won’t regret it?” She asks and she seems nervous her eyes darting away from his face. He brings her back to him quickly. “No. I just wish we would have done this sooner.”
“Me too.” She agrees. “But the timing wasn’t right.” He nods in agreement and then takes her hands in his.
“Do you want to go on a date with me?” He asks his voice soft. Her face turns completely soft.
“Yes.” She says and she pauses for a minute and gives him a soft peck on the lips. “I do.”
“Thank god.”
And Tim feels his world turn back on its axis as he stares at Lucy, already planning their first date.
And he couldn’t wait for it and everything afterwards. For once in his life his future didn’t look so bleak. And it was all because of her.
