Character: Luna Lovegood – Sol Lovegood
Prompt: (Trope) Genderbender
Sol Lovegood ignored the giggles, the longing looks, and the whispers as he walked through the corridor. He was used to this – for different reasons. A few years ago, he was Silly Lovegood, the eccentric and odd Ravenclaw who believed in fake creatures.
Now he was Sol Lovegood.
People saw him now.
He mattered.
A sense of bitterness filled him, making Sol stop and take a deep breath.
He mattered before.
He mattered to his father and to his friends. Before now, his friends saw him and they were there for him.
Sol resumed walking to the Great Hall.
Since the war ended and Harry Potter defeated the Dark Lord, the spotlight found Harry’s closest friends and allies – the loyal Ron Weasley, the brillant Hermione Granger, the brave Neville Longbottom, the daring Ginny Weasley, and him.
According to Witch Weekly and The Daily Prophet, he was a strong and loyal friend who stood by Harry despite losing everything – his home, his father, and his name – only to could out as more .
Personally, Sol would trade his newfound fame and notoriety for his father.
What good was restoring the Lovegood legacy without his father?
The Lovegood didn’t matter to Sol. Only his family mattered.
When Death Eaters came for Sol, he dueled and blasted his way off of the Hogwarts Express. He took a few Death Eaters out before running. A week and a half later found Sol staring at the remains of his house. It was destroyed – gone, like his father – with the Dark Marking burning. A few weeks later, Sol ran into Harry, Ron, and Hermione in London. Somehow he became the fourth member of their cohort.
By Christmas, it was like Sol had been their friend for years. He found being with them helped, he had bonds and support he had only dreamed of. Out of the three, Sol found he was closest with Harry. They spent a lot of time together and it grew as Ron and Hermione became a happy – as they could be – couple.
“Sunbeam,” greeted the familiar voice of Harry.
A second later, he felt the other wizard bump his shoulder. They fell in step together
Pulled from his thoughts, Sol offered the older wizard a small smile. “Harry,” he greeted.
Harry frowned, looking his friend over. “What’s on your mind?” he asked.
Sol felt himself flush. Harry had started asking him that when he learned his mum asked him the same question – and it was one of the few things Sol could remember.
“Sunbeam?” Harry asked, concern in his tone.
“Nargles,” he answered, shaking his head.
Harry stepped in front of his friend, forcing the other wizard to look at him. “Ignore them,” he told his friend.
“I’ll try,” Sol promised, feeling his heart skip a beat.
Harry offered him a teasing smile before he reached out to grab his friend’s hand.
