Harry Potter was having an awful time at Hogwarts, not that that was a new thing. This time, aside from one thing, was the worst yet. Before now, it had been a parasitic dark lord attached to his defense teacher, then being shunned by the whole school for setting a monster on them, and then a supposed mass murderer broke into the castle to kill him, or so everyone thought. Before, though, he had his two best friends to help him, Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger. This time, Ronald had abandoned him in a fit of jealousy, and the majority of the school was no longer content with attacking with just words. Hermione, on the other hand, had stuck by him and even proved a way out of this mess that was the Tri Wizard Tournament: just don't participate in the first task.
Harry was so grateful for that that he had done something he would otherwise not have done, and full on kissed her on the lips. Rather than reject him, she kissed him right back, and the two are now a couple. Which leads to this moment, right before the first task, with Harry staying in the tent. "Harry Potter" called out the voice of one of the judges, Ludo Bagman. He repeated "HARRY POTTER!". Harry, not being dumb, did nothing. "AS it seems that he isn't appearing, he has forfitted the task and must pay the price" . "NOOOO!" Came the voice of Albus (too many names) Dumbledore. At that moment, several things happened: Harry suddenly felt a massive burst of pain from his scar, with it then breaking open and releasing black sludge similar to what came out of The Diary when he had stabbed it. At the same time, he felt a massive surge of power run through his body, as if he had taken 20 pepper-up potions all at once, and his mind felt so much clearer. In the stands, two people were in great pain: Dumbledore and the defense teacher, Alastor Moody. Though, the latter seemed to be shifting and melting, his form turning into someone else, someone thought long dead: Barty Crouch Jr.! Chaos was erupting in the stands, and nobody knew what to do.
TWO WEEKS LATER
Things were looking good for Harry, after the First Task. As it turns out, the Goblins had been trying to get into contact with Harry, but wards that Dumbledore had placed on him after that fateful Halloween of '81 had prevented that, until they broke after the Task. As it turns out, not only had Dumbledore blocked most of Harry's mail, he had placed a block on his core, and had limited his thoughts to be reckless and thoughless . Part of why those blocks broke was a shard of Voldemort's soul had been in his scar, and had been destroyed. The other reason was that Dumbledore had allowed Harry's entry into the Tournament fraudulently, and the Goblet of Fire had exacted part of the penalty upon him: he no longer had magic! Barty Crouch Jr, also had this happen to him, losing his magic, but there was a surprise third victim to the Goblet: Voldemort himself! Unlike the other two, he died instantly, due to his Horrocruxs being entirely magical, as was his body.
When all of this came to light, Ronald tried to get back into Harry's good graces, but Harry told him to "Bugger Off!". With no dark lord after him, no pretentious light lord trying to herd his destiny, and the whole school either having apologized or just flat out leaving him alone, he was in high spirits for the upcoming Yule Ball. He had asked his now girlfriend Hermione to be his date, and she had agreed. All was well.
