In the aftermath of getting his head stuck inside a stupid picture cutout and carrying that stupid board all the way to Yokohama 99, where he got laughed at by Sugiura, Yagami isn’t in the mood to do another case today. Knowing his luck, something will go wrong again, and he’d rather avoid screwing up again.
So, when Todoroki from the boxing gym texts him and asks if he wants to go out for drinks, Yagami accepts the offer. He’d much rather sit in a bar and chat about boxing and Oshikiri’s progress than run around the city all afternoon.
As he walks up, Izesaki Road, heading to Yoronotaki, he spots a familiar figure standing outside Plage.
“Is that Okitegawa-kun?” he says to himself.
Indeed, it is Okitegawa who stands there, dressed not in his school uniform but a smart shirt and dress pants. He holds a small gift bag in his right hand, and his fidgety stance suggests anxiety. When he keeps looking at his watch, Yagami deduces the situation: Okitegawa is waiting for his date to show up.
He doesn’t want to stare (despite his curiosity about if the leader of the Robotics Club has a partner), so Yagami continues walking. But before he heads down the steps into the izakaya, Yagami spots someone running down the street.
And Sakura-kun skids to a stop in front of Okitegawa, clutching his side, clearly breathless. He also wears smart clothes, although his shirt looks a little too big for him, like he borrowed it from an older sibling. Sakura bows to Okitegawa, presumably apologising for being late, but Okitegawa just smiles softly and offers Sakura his hand. And the two boys head inside the café for their date.
Yagami smiles as he wanders down the steps and into the restaurant. He had no idea that Sakura and Okitegawa were dating, but he’s happy for them. And he also wonders if the rest of the Robotics Club know that two of their members are dating.
But he can think about the potential club gossip another time. Right now, he’s here to forget about getting his head stuck in a photo cutout and get drunk.
