Mu Qing reached over and slapped her chest. Just as she put the car in park and took the key out, Mu Qing’s phone rang. When she picked it up, Feng Xin caught a quick glimpse of Xie Lian’s face lighting up the screen. The moment she pressed the phone to her ear, Xie Lian’s frantic voice came from the other end, too quiet for Feng Xin to make out what she was saying.
She watched as Mu Qing paled and her hand began to shake. She didn’t say a single word during the call, just hung up and set her phone back in her lap. She took a shaky breath, lowering her feet to the floorboard. “Take me home,” she breathed.
“What happened?”
“Just take me home.”
