“Kazu's first birthday is today,” Izuku said, glancing at Katsuki with a suspiciously innocent look. Katsuki raised his eyebrows.
“You found her on the side of the road, how do you know when her birthday is?”
“I made Shoto choose a random month, and Ochako chose a random day. I didn’t tell them what it was for, but I made it Kazu's birthday!” Izuku said excitedly. Katsuki checked the date on his phone.
“Their brilliant asses made Kazu's birthday November seventh?” he said, sarcasm basically dripping out of his mouth. “That’s honestly the ugliest date I’ve ever seen.” Izuku pretended to cover the cat’s ears, shushing Katsuki before he could say another word.
“Do not say that in front of my baby,” he said. He sounded genuinely offended.
“She doesn’t know jack shit about language.”
“Still!” Izuku pouted and Katsuki hated admitting that he was weak to his puppy eyes.
“Why did you bring this up again?”
“I want to throw her a party.”
“She’s a fucking cat.”
“Shoto has a cat too, and I was thinking he could bring him over and they could play,” Izuku said. He was dead serious, Katsuki could see it in his face.
“What if they hate each other?” Katsuki asked.
“Then Shoto can take Gubby home, I guess.”
“Oh my fucking god, why did he name his cat Gubby?”
“Stop asking so many questions and just go along with my plan!” Izuku whined.
“I mean, he can bring Gubby over, I don’t really care. As long as I don’t have to do anything.”
“Well…” A pause.
“What do you want me to do,” Katsuki asked, but it was more of a statement than a question.
“Make a cake?” Izuku said tentatively. Katsuki blinked once, twice.
“Cats don’t eat cake.”
“Okay, well, that part is for me.” Katsuki sighed in resignation and silent agreement. In reality, Katsuki was excited to bake, but Izuku didn’t need to know that. Giving in was worth it just because of the smile he got from him.
“I’m gonna call Shoto, I’ll be right back!” Izuku said, then disappeared into his room. Katsuki bit the inside of his cheek to stop himself from scoffing. He liked Shoto enough to call him one of his good friends. Shoto is Izuku’s best friend (besides him, obviously), and it would be an understatement to say that Katsuki is jealous of him.
Izuku shares everything with Shoto. Katsuki only knows that because Shoto is somehow educated on every single part of their lives. The only thing Shoto doesn’t seem to know is anything Katsuki specifically states should not be shared. Like, you know, his dick size and his vulnerable emotions. Like hell was he letting Shoto know anything about his dick.
To be clear, Shoto was both Katsuki’s good friend and greatest enemy.
As he aggressively stirred the batter, Izuku re-entered the room, a goofy smile on his face that made Katsuki’s eyes narrow in displeasure. Fucking Shoto Todoroki.
“Okay, so, Shoto is going to bring Gubby over in like, an hour,” Izuku said. “He’s also bringing alcohol, if you wanna drink with us.”
Izuku leaned against the counter, typing on his phone and giggling softly. Katsuki ignored it, pretending to be fully immersed in vigorously greasing the cake pan.
“Alright, plans are all set,” Izuku said, placing his phone down. He reached down and scooped Kazu up, rubbing his face against her fur and smothering her with kisses. Katsuki sighed, pouring the batter into the pan. The oven beeped to signal that it was fully pre-heated, and he slid the pan into the oven.
“You’re my little baby,” Izuku whispered to the cat.
“She’s my baby, too,” Katsuki muttered.
“Aww, you love her!” Izuku squealed.
“No shit, I take care of her don’t I? I think I deserve the title of coparent.”
Izuku nuzzled the cat again. “Me and Kacchan are your parents,” he said. Katsuki pinched the bridge of his nose to stop himself from screaming.
—
“Shoto’s here!” Izuku called from across the apartment. Katsuki had laid down on his bed, snuggling into the blankets, determined to take a refreshing nap. He groaned, throwing the covers off and making his way into the living room. Stupid fucking Shoto and his terrible fucking timing.
Izuku and Shoto appeared a few seconds later, and Shoto was holding a small bag that had a kitten’s head poking out the top. He had another bag, too, and Katsuki assumed that’s where the alcohol was. Katsuki quickly glanced over to the kitchen to make sure his cake was still looking beautifully frosted and perfect. It was. He even made a few flowers along the edges.
“Hi Bakugou,” Shoto said, putting the kitten bag down on the floor. He watched as a small black cat tentatively peered out, slowly making its way onto the hardwood floor. Katsu was probably hiding in Izuku’s room.
“I’m gonna get Kazu,” Izuku said, as if voicing Katsuki’s thoughts out loud. Katsuki grumbled about being left alone with Shoto and Gubby, but he just flopped down onto the couch and waited. Who even throws a birthday party for a cat? Although when Katsuki really thought about it, Izuku was probably just using it as an excuse to hang out, eat cake, and drink.
“Here’s the birthday girl!” Izuku said, carrying Kazu out of his bedroom. He put her on the floor and she shied away from Gubby at first. Eventually, they started getting closer to one another, and Katsuki was surprised to see that they didn’t mind each other’s company. Katsuki should have trained Kazu to be an attack cat, or allergic to Shoto.
Speak of the devil. “Nice cake,” Shoto commented, his voice flat and untoned as always. Katsuki just hummed.
“I made it.”
“I know, Izuku told me.”
“Of course he did.”
“What?”
“I didn’t say anything,” Katsuki said. Izuku shot him a look that he interpreted as, play nice , which Katsuki hated , because he was playing nice. Clearly.
Shoto and Izuku joined him in the living room. Shoto took the spot next to him on the couch, and Izuku sat on the floor next to the cats, reaching out to pet them whenever they would get close enough. Katsuki enjoyed just watching the interaction. Izuku and Shoto started to chatter and Katsuki just drowned it out, starting to get lost in his own thoughts. Social gatherings aren’t really his thing.
Slowly, everyone started to relax and adjust, and Izuku grabbed glasses from the kitchen along with the alcohol. Shoto had brought straight tequila, which Katsuki thought was an interesting choice, but didn’t complain. When it got passed to him, he took a swig straight from the bottle before pouring some into his glass.
“Gross,” Shoto said, his voice still monotone.
“You’re gross,” Katsuki muttered, but there was no heat behind it.
“Ha ha,” Shoto deadpanned. Izuku smiled and shook his head, visibly amused.
The night carried on and they managed to eat the whole cake between the three of them. Gubby peed on their living room floor, and Shoto was nice enough to clean it up and take his leave. Katsuki avoided watching Izuku and Shoto’s interaction as he sent Shoto off. They lived close enough that he could walk home, because Katsuki sure as hell wasn’t paying to get him a ride.
Izuku sat down on the couch next to him, way closer than normal.
“Hey Kacchan,” he said. He leaned his head against Katsuki’s shoulder, linking their arms and curling up next to him. Katsuki froze. What the fuck? To be fair, Izuku is more touchy-feely than him. But this was abnormal. Not that Katsuki was mad about it.
“Izu,” Katsuki said, unmoving. What if he shifted and Izuku scooted away?
“I’m so tired,” Izuku sighed, and Katsuki watched as he closed his eyes and let his breathing deepen.
“Don’t fall asleep on me,” he grumbled, but he wrapped his arm around him anyway and relaxed back against the cushions.
“Mmm,” Izuku replied. He was basically already unconscious. Katsuki let his head drop back as he shut his own eyes, hoping they’d wake up like this.
