Lucas was looking worse for wear, but Nora wasn't sure how to bring up the topic. The boy didn't talk to her like he used to, not after his dad died. Still, she was fairly certain he'd caught a cold and wanted to make sure he was okay.
She waited a little while after he'd come home from school one day, a few new bruises appearing on his body, surely from some sort of stunt he'd done. She knew better than to ask. It'd only cause her stress.
Once she was sure he'd had sufficient post-school alone time, she made her way up the stairs, wincing as she heard rather unpleasant coughing coming from the boy's room. She waited for the fit to pass before knocking on the door, and opened it once she heard a froggy "Come in"
"Lucas, are you sick?" she asked, stepping inside. For how chaotic he was, she was always glad to find he kept his room reasonably clean, something which he did just in hopes he'd have a friend over at some point. He sighed and nodded. "Why didn't you say anything this morning?"
"I don't know" he shrugged. "Thought you might think I'm lying"
"Okay, well, I have some cold medicine downstairs, so you can take that" she told him. "I'll bring it up along with a drink cause I know how much you hate the way that stuff tastes, and then I'll make you something easy for dinner, okay"
"Okay" he replied with a weak smile. "Thanks, mom"
"Don't even worry about it" she replied. "And if you're still feeling bad tomorrow, I won't make you go to school"
"Alright"
