Work Text:
hayate took kokoa’s hand into hers, the two walking side by side. shortly in front of them was a popular bakery the two had been planning to go to together as part of a date in a nearby city.
their date had been rather peaceful so far, kokoa happily pointing and exclaiming at all the stores she wanted to go into, and hayate following. hayate wasn’t necessarily as interested in most of the stores kokoa wanted to go in, but she didn’t mind. she silently enjoyed being able to see her girlfriend so excited over things. however, pacing around the city all day was pretty tiring, and she did have a limit at some point.
the two stopped at the step of the bakery, “at least there’s no line now, right? i don’t think i’d survive walking much further.” kokoa sighed.
“yeah, i’ve heard lines here have wrapped around the block.. are you tired? i can order for us if you want.” hayate replied, opening one of the glass doors to the bakery.
the sweet smell of baked goods quickly hit their faces, “yes please.. can we split something? it’s expensive here, and we’ve already spent a lot today.”
“of course. what would you like?”
“hmm… a slice of red velvet cake? is that okay with you?”
“i want whatever you want, darling.” hayate smiled at kokoa, before walking away to order.
kokoa sat at a small table in the bakery, and stared out the window, her face flushed a light pink. hayate always called her things like that in public places like this. she must’ve been doing it on purpose, making her blush in places where people could always see, maybe she wanted everyone to know she was hers. hayate always teased kokoa like that.
secretly, kokoa didn’t mind it though.
it didn’t feel like too long before hayate came back with the slice of cake in one hand. she placed it down on the table, before sitting down herself.
“looks like i only got one fork.. sorry,” hayate said, and took a piece of the cake on the fork. she held it in front of kokoa’s face. “for you, my dear.”
kokoa’s face was bright red. seriously? she wasn’t going to let hayate just feed her like she was a child. especially not in a place where people could see so easily. she turned her head away. but she couldn’t help but look back at hayate, who tilted her head now. she just looked so, kokoa struggled to think of a word, sweet, really. how could she refuse a face like hers?
reluctantly, kokoa ate the bite of cake off the fork hayate held in front of her, a smudge of frosting landing on her lip. hayate giggled, and kokoa quickly wiped it off with her finger.
if they hadn’t been in such a public space though, kokoa knew hayate would’ve quickly kissed the frosting off her lips before she could even realize it was there.
maybe she even wished she would.
hayate quickly moved on though, getting up to go grab another fork for herself. kokoa knew she must have purposefully grabbed just one fork.
hayate shortly returned back, and the two quickly finished the slice of cake together.
“what did you think, kokoa? it was good, but i don’t think it was as good as your baking.” hayate asked.
“hmm, it wasn’t bad, i guess.” kokoa responded.
“you’re tired, right? maybe we should start going home soon? we could go to bed early together.”
“yeah… yes please,” kokoa muttered slightly, and hayate got up to put back the plate their cake was on. when she finished, she walked back over to kokoa, and took her hand in hers once more.
“are you good enough to walk back to the train station?” hayate asked.
“yeah.. i am.” kokoa replied, and the two started walking back down the streets.
nearly 15 minutes later, the two made it back to the train station. their train wasn’t leaving for another 12 minutes, and all they could do was wait.
the two sat down next to each other on a small bench at the train station. there wasn’t anyone else around, leaving the two by themselves for now.
hayate faced kokoa, and placed her hand on her cheek. she gave her a small peck on the lips.
“what?! what was that for?!” kokoa quickly asked, her face red.
“you had frosting on your lip before, i wish i could’ve gotten a photo. i really wanted to kiss it off for you, you know, it was like the perfect kiss chance.”
kokoa opened her mouth to speak again, but hayate cut her off with another kiss.
“huh? what was that one for now?!” kokoa’s face was an even brighter red now.
“because i love you, kokoa.” hayate smiled. “thank you for coming on this date with me, i really enjoyed it.”
“hayate.. i enjoyed it too, thank you..” kokoa mumbled, facing away now.
hayate giggled, and rested her head on kokoa’s shoulder. kokoa shortly followed and rested her head on hayate’s, her face still bright red.
while they were together like this, it didn’t feel like long before the train arrived. kokoa reluctantly got up from the spot next to hayate on the bench, and they both boarded the train together. the two made sure to take spots next to each other, of course.
hayate intertwined their fingers once more, and kokoa rested her head against hayate’s shoulder. she closed her eyes, the warmth from hayate quickly making her sleepier, the train ride was at least an hour anyway, enough time for kokoa to take a nap on her girlfriend’s shoulder.
“kokoa? we’re almost here. you have to wake up now, i know, but we’re only a short walk from home.” hayate’s voice and movement to face her girlfriend woke kokoa.
kokoa blinked her eyes, and looked up at hayate. aside from how beautiful she was, kokoa could see tiredness in her face, too. “please, kokoa? we can sleep as much as we want at home. we really have to get going now, we dont want to miss our stop.” hayate asked again.
as much as kokoa wanted to keep sleeping, she knew they did have to leave the train, and that she could sleep much more comfortably at home.
“mm, fine..” kokoa got up from the train seat, and shortly waited with hayate for the train to arrive at their station.
after getting off the train, the two held hands again. hayate noticed kokoa slightly shivering as they walked home together, and squeezed kokoa’s hand tighter, stepping closer to her as they walked.
in their apartment, the two quickly got ready for bed, burying themselves in the soft bedding together. hayate welcomed kokoa into her arms, and kokoa contently burrowed her face into hayate’s shoulder.
“thank you again, kokoa, for today… i really love being with you.” hayate quietly broke the silence.
“mhm.. i love being with you too, hayate…” kokoa mumbled back, “but i’m sleepy now, you’re still too warm… let’s sleep now.. please?”
hayate giggled, even if she didn’t admit it, she loved when kokoa was sleepy with her like this. she gently twirled kokoa’s long hair around her finger. “of course. goodnight, kokoa.. i love you.”
“mmh… goodnight, hayate…” kokoa paused for a moment, before looking up to face hayate and pouting her lips, signaling for a kiss.
hayate giggled again, and kissed kokoa’s lips.
kokoa smiled happily, before returning back to burrowing her face in hayate’s shoulder. “i love you too, hayate..”
