Steve was always like the morechill and put together of the pair and eddie admired him for that but it eas also a little bit awkward because eddie felt like he was burndening the other man with all his issues cause like steve was the norrmal one so surely he didnt wanna deal with eddies shit all the time
Bt one day steve came bsck home from work (we can just say this is an au where they're just two halpy dures livibg together and nothing is wrong in the world cahse they deaerve it) and was clealry srressed so eddies asked what was wrong but steve didnt really respond he just kinda shut down completely (autistic!steve fuck it)
"Hey bud" eddie says asn steve just hums in response because talking hard after such a long day and he kinda just wants to crawl into a little hole and shrivel up adb die but also he knows thats like super irrational and not the vibe so hes just existing really "ill make dinner tonight, okay? Youve been working really hard and deserve a rest"
Steve gave a grunt of disagreeal but eddie isnt having it because he knows if steve had it his way he'd work himself literlaly todeath but sometimes ya just gotta put your foot down and be like no dude you cant jusst do that you need to take care of yourself
"I loce you" eddie said with a smile and then he kissed his boyfriend on the cheek and got to work on dinenrr. He didnt do anything too fancy just plain pasta cause thats like the go to for an overwhelmed autistic.
Stvee didnt know much sign language because realistically where would he have gotten that knowledge i mean i dont think fhat the hawkins indiana school system would have that as a class especially back then and also hes not deaf so be fr but he did know the i love you sign cause like everyone knows that sign its so simple so he gave that aign since he couldn't talk abd Eddie just smiled and they ate pasta abd wete happy
The next morning steve would explain that hed just bern a bit swamped in work and got overwhelemd and eddie os caring boyfriend ao all twas okay in the end happily ever after
