Harry Potter's For Losers

Summary:

Jack wants to learn magic

Notes:

Day 8: Potions & Magic

Work Text:

Dean has never been one for magic and witches. He honestly didn't believe that good witches or wizards exist; Castiel never saw any harm in it. So when their boy Jack was infatuated with it ever since he saw that damn Harry potter movie, they couldn't keep him away from it. Dean- being less bulletproof than his husband- decided to get ahead of it. He needed to if his boy was going to play with magic then Dean is going to have to baby proof the shit out of it. He knew who to call but hesitated on doing it. He finally gave in and picked up the phone.

“Squirrel? To what do I owe this pleasure?”

“Hey Crowley” Dean clears his throat “it's me. Dean.”

Crowley knew something was up because Dean was acting way out of character.

“What happened now?”

Whispering into the phone, he frustratingly tells him he needs to know everything about witches, wizards, and magic.

“And you want my help with…?”

“I need help from your mother but she’s not answering any of my calls.”

“You want my mother to help you with Lucifer’s love child?”

“He’s my child, Crowley. Cas and I are his fathers, Lucifer could suck it. So can you help us or not?”

“Don’t get your flannel in a twist, darling. I’ll call you back once I get in contact with the witch.”

A few days later Crowley appears nearby Dean who is fixing himself a sandwich.

“Geez, Crowley! A simple phone call would’ve been enough. You trying to give me a heart attack?”

Ignoring him, Crowley takes his sandwich and takes a bite, “So mother said- oh, ugh, this is a terrible sandwich,” Spitting it out, he slides Dean his sandwich back. Looking at it, Dean tosses it out.

“Crowley. I hate you.”

“Love you too. Mother said she will be stopping by with some simple spells to start little Jackie off with.”

“Nothing powerful, nothing dark, right?”

“That’s something to talk to her about. I’ll just add this on my tab of Winchester Owes Crowley Big.”

Coming home from a beer run, Castiel and Sam come back to find Dean and Crowley talking around the map table. Squinting at Crowley, Castiel speeds up his pace down the stairs. Speaking low amongst each other, Crowley places a hand on Dean’s shoulder as he hushes something to him. Castiel sees the exchange and steps beside Dean, “What’s happening here?”

“Hey, Cas. Crowley and I are just waiting-”

“Well, Sam and I are home. You may go now, Crowley.”

Stepping back, Crowley raises his eyebrows with a smug smirk on his face, “Oh please, Angel. If I wanted Dean, all I have to do is-”

Castiel sidesteps Dean as he gets in Crowley’s face, “You better not finish that sentence.”

Tugging Castiel back by his shoulder, he annoyingly lets out a sigh.

“Cas, babe, Crowley’s only here waiting for Rowena. As you know, Jack has been getting too damn fascinated with all this stupid ass magic shit.”

“Rowena’s coming” Sam asks when he finishes putting everything away in the kitchen.

“Mother is stopping by to teach your nephew some few tricks, Moose; Squirrel’s idea.”

Smoothing out his clothes and fixing his hair, Sam reels back his smile threatening to come out. Cas and Dean look at him with an evil stare, both shaking their heads at him.

Cas turns to Dean, “I don’t want them here, Dean. They were our enemies before, they could simply turn Jack against us.”

“Cas, we’ll be here for every single thing she teaches him.”

Stepping up to Crowley again, Cas grabs him by his lapels, “If anything, anything happens to Jack or any one of us, I’m not hesitating to smite you down where you stand, you and your mother.”

“Cas, you flirt,” Crowley eyes his hands where they are tightening on his suit.

A knock on their metal door has Cas slowly pulling back, but still keeps a threatening eye on Crowley.

Sam opens the door with a huge smile on his face, “Rowena. How have you been?”

Softly patting the side of his face, Rowena smiles up at him, “Same as always, Samuel. Now, where’s the wee lad?”

Taking one of her heavier bags, Sam leads her down the stairs, “We’ll call him.”

Once she reaches the bottom of the staircase, she gives warm greetings all around until she spots her son, “Fergus.”

“It’s Crowley, mother.”

Rolling her eyes, she pushes past him in order to get to the table. Sam goes to retrieve Jack from his room. Once he tells him what they want to show him, Jack basically flies out his room.

Rowena begins with simple spells that a beginner could do. Making an item disappear, floating off the ground, and even using telekinesis to summon objects towards them. Much to her surprise, Jack is able to conjure up anything he was taught in a matter of minutes.

“Well, well, it looks like there are benefits towards being half angel. Are we certain that this is your God given ability that is helping you out?”

Jack smiled while holding a ball of flame, “Yeah I'm sure; this power feels like the diet version of what I usually use.”

Rowena huffs an offended chuckle, “Diet you say?”

“Yeah this power doesn’t come from a natural source. It's manufactured but still powerful.”

Conjuring up more balls of fire that dissipate on his will, he keeps glancing at a mysterious book that Rowena left on table far off to the side. Being curious, Jack finally asks about it. Following his gaze, Rowena’s eyes grow wide as she hurries to shove it back in her bag. Cas and Dean look on curiously as well but ignore it once the book is concealed.

“It’s not of your concern, Jack. Now get back to the incantation.”

“I wanna know.”

Sighing, she briefly explains to him, “That particular book is off limits; it’s very dangerous. Besides, it has a lock on it that even I cannot get open.”

“Where did you get it?”

“A group of witches made a club and didn’t invite me. So I broke in and took an item that I thought was important.”

Leaving it at that, Jack and Rowena take a minor break from their lesson. As Cas and Dean prepare a small snack for all of them, Jack sneaks off to the map table again to take a sneak peak into that mystery book Rowena is so secretive about.

Jack notices all the creases in the hard cover almost look Enochian. Within seconds of touching the book the lock snaps open. Jack gets startled, letting out a small yelp, and throws the book to the ground.

Dean and Cas exchange a confused look as they both head out to see what caused a loud thump, “What's going on in here?”

“Nothing, I was just trying to practice my magic again.”

“Be careful you don't do anything dangerous without adult supervision.”

Jack annoyed, “Yeah, I know, I know.”

Feeling invincible, Jack decides to read the book. He wants to show the adults all he can do. He is unable to read it at first sight; the words were not even written in any language of this century. But thanks to Jack's half angel bloodline, he is able to decipher the language in now time. He looks at the first line trying his hardest to sound out the word phonetically. Suddenly a sharp pain is felt on his left index finger.

“Ouch! Stupid book!”

Feeling upset he takes the book and launches it in the air. A Black eyed demon with red pupils catches it in mid air, not taking his eyes off Jack as it brings the book to his chest.

“Are you the one that summoned me?”

Jack, scared, begins to yell for help but is silenced by the demon. Jack tries his hardest to yell but there is no noise coming out as the demon inches closer to him.

“What’s going on? I’m half angel. I should at least be able to hold my own,” Jack thinks.

The demon- within inches from Jack- raises his hand towards his face. Before he almost touches Jack, his hand is frozen. The demon looks around to see what is stopping him and sees Crowley.

“Sorry, Darlin’, but this is not your family to torture.” Crowley snaps his fingers and pins the demon to the wall. The demon suddenly tries to hide the book. Unable to move, it is unsuccessful.

“Well, what do we have here?” Crowley says as he easily grabs the book from its grasp. Noticing what he’s holding, he tosses it on the table.

With a snap of his fingers, Crowley is able to slam the demon back; sending it  screaming back into the book. As the blood curdling scream dies, everyone comes rushing into the room to check on Jack.

Rowena is the first to show up, “What in the bloody hell is going on here?”

Crowley sharply points to the book, “I could ask you the same thing, mother. This book is very dangerous even for you. Where did you find it?”

“I picked it up at a witch's coven. How did you even get the bloody thing opened?”

Crowley lifts the book waist high to examine it, “It's one of King Solomon's books; Very old, very dangerous.”

“Well it's a good thing that I found it,” Rowena says as she reaches to take the book back.

Crowley hands it back to Rowena, “Just be glad you couldn’t open it when you wanted to.”

“Fergus, I didn't know you cared,” Rowena softly takes the book, putting it back in her bag.

“I don't; Hell’s mine; stay away from it.”

Jack looks at Crowley, “Are you sure it's gone?”

“Don't worry, Uncle Crowley will be here to scare away all the scary things."

Dean, Cas, and Sam come in after they hear no more noise coming out of the room.

“What's going on?”

“Easy boys, it's already handled.”

“What needed handling?” Castiel asks.

“It was a Demon; one loyal to Lucifer. It decided to crash our little party. Don't worry, love, I will just chalk it up to another favor you owe me.”

Dean comforts Jack as he puts his arm around his shoulder, “Yeah, well thanks, I owe you one.”

Cowley looks at Rowena, “Well looks like all the excitement is gone; I'm gonna be heading out. Don’t worry about today, maybe you can repay me back like with lets say a dinner date?”

Castiel looks at Crowley like he wants to kill him and Crowley just gives him a smirk, “Until I see you again, boys. Dean.”
