Ren didn’t know how to feel when he returned to Dogwarts standing on the hill looking down at the place that he had created.
Ren’s hair had grown since the last time he had seen the walls leading into the small base that he, along with a few others had called home while they were on the third life server; he could already feel the small prickle of tears at the corner of his eyes by just looking at it.
And Ren knew as he began walking closer to the base that all the emotions and memories that came with it would come flooding back as he stepped closer to it.
He could feel himself smile as he placed his hand on the entrance walls even if it was partly destroyed from the final battle; the upturn of Ren’s lips as he walked through the gardens never seemed to fall.
And they didn't as he walked closer to the main building the sense of nostalgia hit him as he opened the door leading down towards the basement, the place where he knew he held his most important memories, the ones he shared with someone dear to him.
Ren could feel their emotions rising again as he looked at the basement. It held a unique place for him especially with his crown and cape displayed so carefully on an armour stand with a purple sheet draped either side of it, framing it.
Ren knew that other important items were displayed around the server right next to his cape and crown lay the axe that he’d gifted to Martyn, the blue diamonds shone so brightly with the enchantments that were on it yet Ren found it shone with something even brighter in his mind.
He could imagine it perfectly as he closed his eyes, the strong hands holding it tightly in their grip, the sweep of blond hair blowing by bright sunsure eyes, the bandana just slightly keeping it away from obstructing the view of them.
And when Ren opened his eyes for a second he was almost sure he would see those eyes right in front of him with the person who they belong to not that far away.
Yet all he saw when he opened his own eyes was the bright shimmer of the axe he was standing in front of, his hand just barely touching the surface of the diamond part.
Ren let a light breath leave his lips as his smile grew as the memories started coming back to him. And that was when he started to make his way back out of the base, going instead to the garden that he’d created alongside the other members of the Red army.
His smile grew as he continued to walk around Dogwarts, the memories resurfacing more now that he was standing directly inside of his 3rd life home instead of his home back on Hermitcraft.
“It’s been a while my king” Ren’s shoulders tensed for a split second before unravelling as he turned around to face the person who knew he would have sacrificed all of his life's for.
Martyn wasn't standing that far away from Ren when he turned around to face him in fact he was walking closer to him, Ren knew out of everyone that Martyn was one of the regulars who visited the server with Scott and Jimmy.
Ren held out his hand to him as he got closer, Martyn wasn't wearing what he used to wear when he was the hand to the king now he was wearing a simple shirt with black shorts with the headband that Ren knew he didn't go anywhere without.
“It has hasn't it Martyn” Ren’s voice was soft as Martyn finally reached Ren’s hand with his own intertwining their fingers together as Martyn got closer to standing right in front of Ren a smile of his own gracing his face.
“I would say so,” Martyn laughed, looking up and down Ren “Finally decided to pay a visit to it then did you?” Ren could feel Martyn’s eyes search his face and his body.
Yet all Ren could do was smile in his direction “i thought it would be better now with the memories fresh” Ren squeezed Martyns hand and Ren looked at Martyn with such adoration when he felt Martyn squeeze his hand back.
“There never is a better moment than the present” Martyn’s lips turned into a slight grin as he looked in Ren's direction and Ren couldn’t stop himself from laughing as Martyn spoke.
“There really isn’t” Ren's voice was light as he turned his head up looking up into the sparkling night sky.
Him and Martyn spent a lot of nights under this exact sky talking about everything and nothing so it was no surprise to Ren when Martyn seemed to know exactly what he was thinking.
“You were an incredible king Ren” Ren turned his face slightly to face Martyn’s as he spoke yet Martyn wasn't looking at him anymore instead he was looking up at the sky.
“You always spoke the truth with no hesitation, no fear no matter how hard you knew it would be, even when you didn’t want to believe it yourself, you said it” Martyn continued to speak as Ren was looking at him now holding his breath.
“When everyone was giving up, you stood in front of us all and gave us hope, you always knew what to say in front of us no matter the situation or event” Martyn was watching the stars shine as he gave Ren’s hand another squeeze “you were always there for us, even when you knew some of us were planning on betraying you” Martyn’s voice was soft as he spoke.
And as he mentioned the word “betraying” he started to turn his face towards Ren’s, a smile gracing his lips, Martyn’s eyes were looking at him with such love and a twinkle that Ren wasn't sure he'd ever seen in Martyn’s eyes before.
His entire face was glowing to Ren or that could be the tears slowly rolling down his cheeks as he looked directly into Martyn’s eyes.
“Martyn…” Ren’s voice was barely above a whisper yet Martyn seemed to hear it perfectly clear as he brought the hand that wasn't holding Ren’s up to his face carefully wiping away some of the tears rolling down Ren’s cheek.
“You were always the one taking the blunt for the rest of us and to me-” Martyn slightly stopped before starting up again “you'll always be my king” and at that Martyn carefully brought their intertwined hands up to his face and gently placed a kiss onto Ren’s hand.
Ren could feel his heart beat faster as Martyn kissed his hand and he watched as Martyn slowly lowered there hands so they were directly in between them.
And Ren could have sworn the world slightly stopped in that moment when their eyes met baby blue meeting bright blue.
Ren supposed standing there with Martyn it wasn’t a bad idea to visit this server when he was feeling down or if he was questioning himself especially if he had Martyn with him, looking at him with such love in his eyes.
