Work Text:

"Assuming you really were in that dream," Jason started. His cheerdrop induced hallucination and the way in which he overpowered fear toxin flashed in his mind. "Are you ready to make good on what you promised?" He didn't specify what that was. If it really was Tim then he'd know what he was referring to.

If it wasn't, he wasn't gonna go over it again and risk a different reaction. It'd be one thing to find out Tim's assurances were just conjured by his mind. But to be told by him that it was completely wishful thinking? Jason didn't think he could handle that, especially not in this fragile state.

"Always," Tim emphasized through the comms. "I'm on my way."

Once he got there, things were handled efficiently. Unsurprisingly so. Everything Jason said, and had long thought, about how good Tim is was true. Though that wasn't what had him feeling so grateful.

That feeling may be why he accepted the offer to get his injuries checked at Tim's new place on the marina. This was the first time he even went there.

"Nice place you got here," he said. Tim smiled. "Very murder shack chic," he added on to be an ass. Tim's mouth tugged down not in the absence of a smile, but in attempted suppression of one. "So I've been told," he replied as he grabbed his medical kit.

Under other circumstances, Jason might've insisted on taking care of his injuries himself. Instead he allowed Tim to do it for him. A thank you of sorts, for the fact that being vulnerable with him tonight hasn't blown up in his face. He hoped Tim somehow deduced that.

When Tim finished wrapping his bandages, he thought he should at least say something. "Thanks," Jason told him. "Happy to help," Tim smiled kindly. It then turned into a shit-eating grin. "Even if you hit me in the face twice in recent memory." "To be fair, one of those was technically in a dream, and I actually thought you were gonna duck the crowbar," he replied.

"Could be worse, you could get tased by the demon brat," he added. "Wouldn't happen. Even without being a brilliant detective, I know Damian would never hug me," Tim said. "Good thing you're better at deductions than taking a hit," he remarked back. "I think I've thoroughly demonstrated I can take a hit," Tim rebutted. Jason snorted. "Is that supposed to be a brag?"

"Sometimes it's half of being a vigilante," Tim said. Damn if that wasn't something Jason has told himself a lot recently, patching up injuries that may have been less bad if only he reached out. He was far more afraid of emotional hits, rejecting himself for them.

His fingers drifted to the bandages on his side. "Yeah, sometimes..." he echoed thoughtfully. Maybe it didn't have to be so often. Maybe he could count on him, maybe Tim really considered him worth that.
