Chapter 1: The Beggining

Chapter Text

Miles, the heir to the Edgeworth estate and a man being groomed for success by his father, who was kind, don't get him wrong, he just seemed very… obsessive about perfection. Back to the point, Miles was typing out a form which he was always hesitant to. But after watching how his best friend, Phoenix Wright had been faring…
Miles felt he had to, to save Phoenix right? The form with the header “Servitude request forum” was what noble men gained access to after they turn 18, he had waited nearly 20 years to actually do this however. As he finally fills out the last question, “Name of servant?” Miles hesitated. Then reminded himself of his motivations. Filling out Phoenix’s name.

Absolutely not because he has a secret crush on the lower class boy… Definitely not. Miles gripped the paper tightly as he filled out the legal stuff, mainly accident waivers and such, the gray haired nobleman then shipped the forum to the agency of Servant Management for processing of the request. He laid onto his bed after stepping into his large bedroom, it contained 2 large windows against the wall, the wooden and silver trimmed wall that Miles always judged for being too showy, with the massive bed that was equally as fancy leaning against it. The mass of pillows Miles liked to hug up against on especially lonely nights, which seemed to be getting more and more plentiful as of late. He managed to fall asleep early that night as he was overly exhausted from the nervousness and excitement of filling out the form.

The next morning began like any other as Miles slowly woke up, Somewhat forgetting about what he had done the prior afternoon. Miles washed and dressed, then he began his skincare routine, which lasted a total of 30 minutes, finally he bruised his teeth and attached his cravat. Miles stepped out of his bedroom and personal bathroom, walking into the mansion’s living room. Grabbing a book he had started and beginning where he left off. The front door was knocked on by a servant, it rang out within the mansion. A few servants and residents came down to answer it, though Miles ended up doing it as he then saw quite a strange sight before him. A man, at least 5 '10 with spiky hair being dragged by a 5’4 maid by a leash. The now recognizable man having clear bruises on his neck from the leash being way too tight on him, wincing as he’s dragged further inside of the mansion, the door being closed by an ecstatic Miles, yet he was still a bit worried for his now enslaved friend, who had clear signs of a beating on him along with him being so forcefully dragged in.

Miles watched as Phoenix was sat down onto the couch, also rather forcefully. Luckily, Miles undid the leash and collar, forcing his servants away. Examining the bruises. “Hmm… should not grow worse, though I am not a professional so we’ll see.” Miles should not have ever even known who Phoenix Wright was, the Wright family made a total of 3 dollars a year and lived in the slums which catered them, that being the only reason they survive, while Miles sometimes forgets what a penny is, showing the stark contrast between the men and their families.

Phoenix was shaking. He was clearly terrified of his former friend, while deep down he probably still harbored a liking for Miles, he was still scared. He had essentially just been kidnapped by people working for his best friend who he thought pitied him, but the opposite was clear to Phoenix, but from some sick sense of morality Miles was doing all this because of that pity. Miles knelt down close to Phoenix again.

“You must be scared, Wright. Do not worry, think of it this way. Now that you’re with me, your family mustn't burden themselves with paying for you. Don’t you care for them? Well, of course you do. However, now that you are with me you can finally indulge in some semblance of luxury as well, you always told me in our long calls you prayed every night for even a simple loaf of bread instead of the horridly stale and small portions you were granted. Now you can have as much bread, butter and much, much more as you wish. I am not so cruel as to deny you that, I simply wish you to be cared for.” Miles began toying with his new servant’s hair. “Though I still must train you, to be sure that you understand. As well, you still must do tasks. As the servants currently in the manor are of my father’s employ, I must have somewhat more of… private property.”

Miles said that in an ever innocent tone yet still somehow coming off sinister even without intent, all of this was truly believed was better for Phoenix, for his friend. Even if it may be normally seen as wrong, which it was, but Miles never saw it that way, well maybe when he was younger actually. Thus why he waited so long to fill the form. “Now, the training comes with a reward. The luxuries I have in my disposal, I am not simply giving you them for free. Thankfully, I still will feed you. I am not a monster. Firstly, bathing you. You have essentially a patina of dirt all over your skin. We must clear that off you if you are to come into the public with me.”

Miles quickly called his servants, those who were actually paid of course. The hurriedly carried Phoenix away, a man with brown hair, who seemed to be rather disheveled for living within the city limits instead of the slums. He had a name tag like all the others, reading “Larry, B” Phoenix was cut off from his inspection of the seemingly messy man by being pulled into the bathroom.

2 AND A HALF HOURS LATER

It took that amount of time to get all of the large layer of dirt off of Phoenix’s skin, to brush his teeth, which were surprisingly undamaged and to clean his hair and shave his messy facial hair to make his face baby smooth. He was given a minute to look at his skin, tilting his head, like a dog seeing his reflection for the first time. He's never looked so… clean. He liked it, Phoenix was however interrupted as Miles had ordered the servants to bring him back soon after the cleaning. Phoenix walked along with the paid servants. “Larry, B” started examining Phoenix. “Hey! So… yah new?” Larry said in a dopey sounding voice. “Bet you’re already paid more than me!” Larry joked, seemingly not getting the fact that Phoenix is a slave, or at least wasn’t even told.

As Phoenix was brought into Miles’ bedroom, just now noticing the massive bed and rather fancy room. One wall alone was worth more than his home, his family land which was about 20 feet of infertile dirt 4 states away, and 100 years worth of his father’s yearly paycheck. Phoenix immediately went to lay down on the bed, he was dressed in a white shirt and black pants now instead of barely fitting tattered leather. Miles watched Phoenix do this, he was wearing comfy pajamas that were 300 dollars each for the shirt and matching set of pants. Once Phoenix began laying down on his bed he began yelling. “HALT!” Phoenix froze up, Miles knew German. Having been taught it as young as 5 and becoming fluent at 19. Phoenix turned and looked to his friend. “Wha-” Miles groaned. “Do not lay unless ordered. AND never speak back!” Miles sighed.

“I am aware you are not yet trained. If I had trained you already I would have your wrists slit. Slowly.” Miles threatened the punishment as a deterrence, not a promise. He could never truly do that to Phoenix. At most a quick 5 lash whipping is about to the extent pf what would truly do to Phoenix, and that’s not even a guarantee. But it was still harsh. Quickly getting Phoenix into line through just yelling. Phoenix quivered as he stood still.

“It is getting dark Wright. Now lay down.” Miles ordered anyways, allowing Phoenix to get on a bed in the corner Miles pointed towards. It was a silver bed, with blue sheets and pillows and a white blanket. Phoenix laid down, and fell asleep almost 15 minutes later. Miles slept an hour later, he still had work to do.
