Work Text:

Tommy groaned as his alarm jolted him out of sleep. He glared at his phone for a few moments, then turned off the alarm and turned away to try to get back to sleep. He knew he needed to get up, but a few more minutes of sleep would not hurt. The young Omega could just get ready for school when the next alarm went off. If the knots in his stomach went away instead of making him lose the remains of last night’s dinner. But when the next alarm went off, the feeling seemed to have only gotten worse. He groaned, then just laid there when he turned the alarm off. Maybe he could stay home.

Tommy had just dozed off again when he heard a knock on his door. There were a few moments of silence, then the door was creaking open. His father entered the room. “Hey, Toms. You’re going to be late...” Phil said as he carefully pulled the blanket back so he could look at his son. There was no hiding the worry in the older Omega’s eyes. Despite how much he hated school, Tommy had not missed a single day this school year. He was determined to end his final year on a better note than previous years.

“I don’t feel good...” Tommy mumbled as he reached to drag the blanket back over himself. But Phil did not allow him to.

“You don’t feel good?” Phil asked then gently placed his hand on Tommys forehead. He frowned in thought, then pulled his hand away. “You’re not running a fever, mate. Do you have a migraine?”

Tommy shook his head at the question. His head felt just fine, but his stomach was very unhappy at the moment. “No...”

“Do you think you might have eaten something bad?” Phil asked.

Tommy thought about it, then nodded. “I might have..?” He certainly was not his step-father’s cooking, so it had to be something he had eaten at school.

Phil sighed. “Alright. I’ll call to let them know that you’re staying home. Let me know if anything changes al--“ Phil stopped himself then moved out of the way as Tommy suddenly bolted up and hurried to the bathroom across the hall from his room.

Tommy barely made it to the toilet in time as he lost the contents of his stomach. He whimpered softly when he was finished, sitting on the bathroom floor for a few moments to give himself time to recover. At least his stomach had finally settled down. Maybe it was something that he had eaten the day before. There was no other explanation he could think of.

Tommy eventually convinced himself to get up. His bed would be much more comfortable than the bathroom floor. He washed his mouth out to get rid of the taste of bile, then returned to his room. His father was no longer there. Tommy figured he had gone off to make the call to the school. He didn’t think too much more of it as he laid back down, dragging his blankets over himself.

Though as soon as he did, Phil was back. Tommy heard a water bottle being set down on his bedside table. “I called them. I’ll be back in a bit to check on you. Try to get some rest, alright?”

“Okay...” Tommy heard Phil go as he rolled over to face the wall. It took no time at all for him to fall back asleep. Tommy had gone to bed at a decent hour, so he wasn’t sure why he was so tired at the moment. But he was not about to protest the extra sleep. It might make him feel much better.

It was a long while before Tommy woke up again. He wasn’t sure what time it was, but he knew it must have been a while since there was an extra water bottle and some crackers on his bedside table. His father was such a mother hen, as much as he protested, with him, his brothers and his sister. He had even seen him pestering his step-father to make sure he ate and had water.

It was sometimes annoying to Tommy, but right now, he appreciated it.

Tommy chugged down the water, then nibbled on the crackers before he got out of bed. He was feeling a lot better than he had when he woke up in the morning. The Omega wondered if it was just a passing bug that he had picked up from school. It could have just been something he ate and a lack of sleep. There was no way it could be anything else.

Tommy grabbed his phone from where he had left it, then looked at the text messages that his friends had sent. A couple hoped he got better soon while another offered to grab his homework for him so he didn’t miss too much. Though part of him wished they wouldn’t even bother. Tommy could just deal with the backlog of work when he got back. It was just going to be one day, anyway.

He tucked his phone into the pocket of his sweatpants, then finally decided to face the rest of the house. Tommy stepped out into the hallway, realizing his quiet the home was. Though it should not have been a surprise. All three of his siblings had school while his step-father had work. He caught of whiff of something cooking downstairs then felt his earlier sickness returning. Tommy wasn’t even sure what Phil was making, but it was smelling like the worst thing ever.

Tommy took a breath, then swallowed to stamp down his rising queasiness. It must have been the lack of food from this morning now. Once he was sure that he was going to be fine, Tommy headed down the stairs and to the kitchen where Phil was making grilled cheese sandwiches. One was already sitting on a plate, cooling. Tommy loved the simple meal, especially when he was not feeling well. But why the hell was it making him so sick suddenly?

Tommy hoped that just eating something would make him feel better. But just the thought of touching the sandwich was making him cringe. If going down was awful then coming back up would be even worse.

Phil finally realized he was there and looked up from what he was doing. “Hey, mate.” He greeted. “How are you feeling?” The older Omega asked as he gently lifted the second sandwich out of the pan then set it on the second plate. “Lunch is almost ready if you’re feeling up for it.”

“I--“ Tommy opened his mouth to speak, then gagged. He hunched over the sink as he lost what little he had in his stomach. It was awful, which made him grateful that he had not eaten the sandwich yet. He didn’t understand what was wrong with him. The young Omega had felt fine until he had gotten a whiff of what was cooking.

Tommy snapped out his thoughts when he felt Phil’s gentle hand on his back, rubbing soothing circles as he waited for Tommy to feel well enough to speak. The young Omega stayed hunched over for a few moments, just to make sure he was actually done before he straightened up and took a deep breath. He took a moment to wash the taste out of his mouth.

“Feel better?” Phil asked as he turned the stove off, then retrieved a water bottle for Tommy, which the younger Omega gratefully took.

Tommy took a swig of water before he even tried to answer. “I... think so...” He finally said, then looked at his father with the biggest, saddest eyes he could manage. “I felt fine until I left my room... Then I smelled the grilled cheese and I just...” Tommy gestured to the kitchen sink, then turned on the water to rinse away any remnants of his vomit. He couldn’t help but feel like he was begging for Phil to have an answer on why he was feeling so poorly. Tommy felt like he should know since it was his body, but he was drawing blanks in every direction he was turning. “I don’t know what’s wrong with me...”

That was when he finally recognized the troubled look on his father’s face. “Tommy... Have you...” Phil trailed off, almost like he didn’t want to consider what was on his mind. He placed his hand on the younger Omega’s shoulder, then took a breath. “I think you’re pregnant...”

Tommy felt his entire body go cold, his mind stuttering to a stop.
