Work Text:
„Merry Christmas!” Natasha screamed excitedly as she woke up Maria. “How long have you been awake?” Maria asked, as she slowly propped herself up. “Oh, not THAT long… ok maybe a few hours.” Maria could not help but laugh at the sight in front of her. The feared Black Widow, a world-famous assassin, overflowing with excitement and energy just like a little kid, waiting to open her presents. “Hey! Stop laughing at me.” Natasha fake pouted, before bursting out into laughter herself. “Come on”, Maria said while rolling out of the bed “I’ll make us some hot chocolate and some pancakes, and you can open your presents.” Natasha took Maria by her hands and nearly dragged her out of the bedroom “Hurry up, you old lady!” “Hey, I’m only 3 years older than you!” Maria said while she purposefully slowed her walk even more.
In the living room Natasha immediately ran to the pile of presents under the Christmas tree, while Maria prepared two cups of hot chocolate. “Why aren’t you opening your presents?” Maria asked concerned as Natasha had suddenly halted and was sitting silently in front of the presents. “I just wanted to wait for you. I want to open our presents together.” Natasha said as she turned to Maria grinning.
Maria sat down next to Natasha as she carefully handed her a cup of hot chocolate. “So, let’s see, this is from Bobby and Hunter to both of us.” Maria read out loud as she handed Natasha a plain boy which was not wrapped but securely taped shut. Natasha quickly and swiftly cut the tape away and inspected the inside carefully. “What is it, Nat?” Maria asked curiously. “It’s some kind of statue.” Natsha answered as she inspected the ancient looking statue in her hand. Suddenly she grabbed the head and pulled out the dagger hidden in the statue. Maria and Natasha burst out laughing “Well that’s something.”
The next one was a box neatly wrapped in a fancy red wrapping. “I wonder, whom this is from.” Natasha exclaimed sarcastically, recognizing the fancy red wrapping paper immediately “And by the neatness of the packaging I would say that Clint was banned from helping again.” Maria remarked laughingly. Inside was a self-painted puzzle for Maria and a self-made book for Natasha from the kids and a bottle of wine from Laura and Clint.
From May they got an expensive bottle of whiskey, while they got a new coffee machine from Phil and with it a card signed by the two of them. Sharon had gifted them a comfortable blanket, which Natasha immediately wrapped herself with. Fury sent them two of the newest prototypes of the night-night gun. As always, they received a spa ticket from Marias mother, which they knew they would never use and from Yelena they received a box of mac and cheese and hot sauce of course.
Finally, there were only two presents left. “Do you want to open yours first Nat?” Maria asked, handing her an envelope nervously. “Wh... what is this, Masha?” Natasha asked, inspecting the documents in her hands. “This is my resignation letter.”, Maria mumbled “I thought it was time… and also with our line of work… you would have one thing less to worry about.” Natasha panicked “You aren’t doing this solely because of me right? If you felt pressured to give up your job then…” “Nat calm down, it’s my decision and…”, Maria suddenly lowered her voice “I thought… with me at home, we could maybe think about adoption again… yk like we talked about. If you are okay with it of course.” Natasha suddenly took her head and put their heads together, so that their foreheads and noses were touching. “Are you sure you want to do this Masha?” Natasha asked staring into Marias Ocean blue eyes. “Of course, with you always.” Maria insisted, staring into her beautiful green eyes.
“I love you.”
