Work Text:
Lance had a great life, he had everything an omega could want. He had a mate who he loved and loved him more than anything and a pup, a sweet three-year-old little girl who he adored. Lance had everything he wanted, and in one moment it was all gone and he was alone.
***
Lance met Sergio when he was 18, almost 19 and immediately fell in love. Lance never cared that Sergio was older than him, he couldn’t imagine mating another alpha in his life. They were mated just a little over a year after they met and within a few months, Lance was pregnant with their pup, Elayna. Elayna was the perfect pup and everything Lance had ever wanted. She had everyone she met, including her parents, enchanted. Lance loved her and he loved Sergio and was ready for another pup when his whole world was thrown out of orbit.
It was a day like any other, Lance was at home with Elayna and Sergio were out on their monthly father-daughter date. Lance loved that his alpha made time for their pup every month. Lance was getting ready to lay down for a nap when there was a knock at the door, when Lance opened it the last thing he expected to see were two police officers on the other side. Lance’s heart dropped, he knew that the police didn’t show up at people’s door for anything good. His knees gave out and he dropped to the floor when they gave him the news, his alpha and pup were dead. Lance’s whole world was no longer living and Lance couldn’t bare it. He couldn’t hear anything else they were saying as he sat on the floor with his face buried in his knees and sobbed, heart breaking wide open.
Lance was numb, sitting in his nest. He wasn’t sure how to feel, or what he should do. He’s never met Sergio’s family as they were in Mexico and he knew they didn’t approve fully of their mating because of their age difference. Lance’s family were mostly in Canada, besides his mom in Belgium but their relationship had been rocky for years. What was he supposed to do? Sergio has been his rock for the last 5 years, the only one who always knew how to make Lance smile even in his darkest moments. And Elayna was his sunshine, the reason why he believed there was good in the world. Without his rock and sunshine, everything was unstable and dark.

Lance barely moved from his nest for almost a month, it hurt too much. Most of Sergio’s clothes were losing his scent and Lance knew it wouldn’t be long before his alpha’s scent was gone from everything in the house. Elayna was still too little to have fully developed a scent yet; she still mostly smelt milk like all pups but was slowly starting to smell sweeter. Lance would never know what her scent would be. Lance cried hard, burrowing into Sergio’s sweater inhaling the faint smoke and whiskey scent still left behind on the fabric.
Lance couldn’t do this, he couldn’t be here without his mate and pup. What was he living for? Sergio’s family hung up on him when he called to tell them what happened and he hasn’t heard anything from them. He hasn’t spoken to his mom since he left when he was 18. His sister had her own mate and pups to worry about, she didn’t have time to worry about Lance and his broken heart. His father has tried reaching out but he is in Canada and couldn’t leave his businesses behind. Lance was alone; alone with his thoughts and that was the worst place he could be. While Lance was lying in his nest, wondering if his life was worth anything anymore he remembered one more person he could go to. A friend from many years ago who tried convincing Lance and later Sergio to join the pack he was a part of. So Lance packed up everything he needed; photos, clothes (his, Sergio’s and Elayna’s), parts of his nest and loaded it into his car (well technically the car was Sergio’s) and started driving.
Arriving at the outskirts of the Hamilton pack took several hours. Lance was tired and hoping he was at the right place. He had to get out of his car at the gate, pressed the button by the little screen and waited until someone answered. Lance was cold even wrapped up in one of Sergio’s sweaters that still mostly smelt like the alpha. Lance was shivering with his arms wrapped around himself when a voice broke him out of his thoughts.
“Who are you and what do you want?” Lance jumped at the voice, turning to look at the screen where an Alpha was staring at him.
“Hi I’m Lance, and I’m looking for someone.”
“The pack is full.”
“No please, my friend is part of his pack and I really need to talk to him.”
“Who are you looking for?”
“Esteban. Esteban Ocon. I’m not sure if he’s still part of this pack but if he is I really need to talk to him.”
“One minute.” Then the alpha was gone and Lance was left alone again.

“Esteban, there’s an omega at the gate that’s looking for you. Says they’re a friend of yours.” Pierre said coming into the living room of the pack house where Esteban and most of the pack were.
“Who?”
“Lance didn’t get a last name. He looks quite rough, to be honest.”
“Let me see.” Esteban stood up and followed Pierre to the surveillance room. Esteban could see Lance on the main screen, arms wrapped around himself and looking scared.
“So you know him. We’re okay to let him in.”
“Yeah, please.” Pierre nodded and clicked the gate open. Esteban left the room, hearing Pierre speak to the omega through the microphone. He was nervous. Why was Lance here? It looked like he was the only one in his car. Where was his mate and pup? What happened to his friend? Esteban was pacing when the front door opened. Esteban ran into the front room to see Lance standing there, looking close to tears.
“Lance, what are you doing here?”
“I have nothing. No mate, no pups, no pack…” Lance started crying, falling to the floor. Esteban ran over to his friend, catching the omega and they both dropped to the floor.
“Where are Sergio and Elayna?” Lance didn’t say anything just cried harder. Esteban could see various pack members gathering; trying to see what all the commotion was about.
“They’re gone.” Lance whaled.
“Oh Lance, you don’t mean…” Esteban knew the answer to his question but he didn’t want that for his friend. Lance was so young to experience a hurt like this.
“Dead Estie. They’re both gone and I have nothing. What am I supposed to do without them?”
“Oh Lance, I’m so sorry.” Esteban allowed the omega to cry until he fell asleep. When Lance fell asleep Esteban looked up to his pack who were just all standing there watching the scene in front of them. Esteban wasn’t surprised to see Sebastian standing just a few steps away. The pack omega would definitely be informed about a strange omega entering pack grounds.
“Esteban, who is this?” Sebastian’s voice was gentle as he kneeled down beside the pair.
“This is Lance. Can he stay Seb, please? He’s lost his mate and his pup. I can’t imagine how lonely he is.”
“Oh course. Where’s his pack? Shouldn’t he be with them right now?” Sebastian felt his heart breaking for the omega. He looked so young to lose both his mate and his pup, Sebastian himself couldn’t imagine life at his age without his mate. This poor omega must be absolutely broken.
“He doesn’t have one. Neither him nor his alpha were from here. Sergio’s family didn’t approve of their mating where Lance was younger than him and Lance’s family situation is messy. I’ve been trying to convince them to come here for years but they were happy just the three of them.” Lance whimpered in his sleep, like he knew Esteban was talking about him and his family. Lance moved, exposing his mating mark which was already fading, indicating that his alpha had been gone for a while.
“The poor pup. Why don’t you take him into the living room nest where he can be more comfortable.” Esteban nodded, standing up with Lance in his arms. The pack parted, letting Esteban through. Esteban slowly laid Lance down, the omega curled in a ball, nose buried in the hoodie he was wearing. Esteban wasn’t sure how to help his friend but he was going to do everything he could to one day see the omega smile again.
