Cuddles in The Heart Hotel(s)

Summary:

Roxas wakes to a knock. Xion can’t sleep. It all spirals from there.

Notes:

I’ll be honest, this isn’t too great. But it was a little idea I couldn’t get out of my head. It’s cute enough, so I figured I might as well post.

Work Text:

The small world inside Sora’s heart was quite simple. It was a nice hotel on the beach. The inside of the hotel was warm and cozy. It wasn’t much, but it was home.

Sora was able to visit in his sleep sometimes. It took a lot of concentration on his part. According to him, it was ‘sorta like trying to dream on purpose’. No easy feat.

Roxas was awoken by a gentle knock at his door. He wondered who it could be at this hour.

“Come in,” he said.

Xion opened the door, holding her pillow, her black blanket draped over her shoulders.

“What’s wrong, Xion?” Roxas asked her, tensing. Whatever it was, he’d fix it.

Xion sighed. “I can’t sleep,” she said.

Roxas relaxed his frame. “Oh.” That wasn’t exactly something he could control. How could he help?

Xion hugged her pillow closer, averting her gaze. “Um, is it okay if I sleep with you?” she asked, embarrassed red dusting her fair cheeks.

“Yeah sure,” Roxas said, scooting over to make room for her.

Xion smiled at him. “Thanks,” she said, a bit shyly, climbing in next to him.

As soon as they’d both made themselves comfortable, the door Xion had accidentally left open creaked. They looked up to find Ventus peeking in.

“Hey. Can’t sleep either?” he asked softly.

“I was, but Xion couldn’t. Come on in, Ven,” Roxas replied.

With permission, Ventus walked in. He had his pillow under his arm. “I don’t suppose I could join you?” he asked, smiling shyly.

Giggles shook Xion’s shoulder.

Roxas smirked. “Get over here.”

Ventus smiled and climbed in next to Xion.

“What are you doing?” asked a fourth, grumpy voice.

The three of them looked up to find Vanitas, frowning at them in the hallway. They must’ve looked quite silly to him.

Xion grinned at him. “Cuddling,” she responded.

“Obviously,” quipped Roxas, making Ventus snort.

Vanitas’ frown deepened. “Why?”

Xion rolled her eyes at him. “Just come join us,” she told him.

“Uh yeah no, I don’t think so,” Vanitas refused with a disgusted curl of his lips.

“You’re no fun,” teased Ventus.

Then Xion gave him her Puppy Eyes. “Please?”

Vanitas tensed. Ventus and Roxas shared a grin.

Then Vanitas groaned. “Fine.” And he climbed in next to Ventus.

They’d all managed to get comfy, not a single limb not touching somebody else’s. Eyelids began to grow heavy with sleep.

The door banging against the wall startled them all. At the foot of the bed, Sora was pouting at them.

“No fair! You guys are having a sleepover and didn’t invite me?!”

They laughed, except for Vanitas who protested ‘We’re not having a sleepover!’. Sora’s pout only grew bigger.

“Get in here, Sora,” Roxas said, lifting up the blanket for him.

Sora grinned wide, eyes lit up, and practically jumped half on the bed and half on them, to Ventus’ amusement and Vanitas’ displeasure. He ended up in between Roxas and Xion—who immediately grabbed his arm to cuddle. He cuddled her right back.

Warm and happy, sleep finally claimed them.

Within another’s heart lied a small, cozy house along a beach as well. Inside the house in a bedroom, Naminè sat in bed, drawing in her sketchbook.

“You’re still awake?”

Naminè startled and looked up. Kairi had walked in without her noticing.

“I couldn’t sleep,” she explained.

Kairi put her hands upon her hips and smiled. “Then that calls for a sleepover,” she said, then sprinted and jumped on the bed, jostling Naminè.

After convincing Naminè to put down her sketchbook, they each got comfortable under the blankets, facing each other. Naminè yawned, suddenly aware of how tired she really was. Kairi reached out and grasped her hand, closing her eyes and breathing out deeply. She fell asleep, smiling.

Naminè watched her shoulder fall and rise for a moment before yawning once again. She slid their fingers together, then slowly let her own eyes shut. Warm, she fell asleep, small smile on her lips.
