Work Text:
I
String the bead, the needle thread
Warp the loom, length measuréd
Draw the gold in strands as fine
As beams of light, with silk entwine
Set stitches true, braid wicks, lay rope
With every turn, remember hope.
II
Stitch them and whip them
Spin them and snip them
Warp them and weave them
Wrap them and wind them
Braid them and bind them
Twist them and twine them
Splice them and ply them
Spool them and dye them
Make them and mind them
The strings and the strands
That enfold all the world
III
Ribbons green and ribbons grey
Ribbons white in fine array
Ribbons scarlet, blue and gold
Ribbons flutter bright and bold
Ribbons lace and tie and string
Ribbons sewn with bells to ring
IV
Strings sing the stories
Threads tell the tales
Fiber and wire
Shrouds, ropes and sails
Tapestry pictures
History's veils
Follow the needle
That strand never fails
