Jeongin’s kisses taste like ambrosia, electric and invigorating in their strong current, granting the lucky— Hyunjin, only Hyunjin— a chance at divinity. He was warned of addiction and behind their backs he took it as a promise, yearning for a love so powerful it swept him up into a hurricane. Like a prisoner? Oh, no, like a devotee, a soulmate, his dearest.
Jeongin laughs at something said on the TV, an episode of New Girl left as background noise, and pushes the sound against Hyunjin's mouth. It brings him back to where they are: Jeongin's apartment, where they've been holed up all weekend kissing and fucking and watching Nick Miller edits on TikTok. Far away from Olympus, where he'd traveled to the moment Jeongin climbed onto his lap and fed him his tongue.
He blushes, hiding into his boyfriend's neck. Hyunjin has filled pages after pages on his journal with these thoughts, so sugary his teeth ache by the time he puts the pen down. They've been together for 4 months, 2 weeks and 3 days, and for each moment spent together a new poem is born from the pink waves in his mind and heart. Is it too intense? He'd thought so, at first. When Jeongin found out he begged to read every single one. Hyunjin couldn't say no.
Jeongin started crying halfway through, kissed him senseless when there were just a few pages left. Hyunjin read the last ones for him while they made love, moaning pieces of his writing as Jeongin built himself a home inside of him— that's how he knew he had nothing to worry about. That one day he'll lose count of time and, if asked, he'll just say they've been together forever.
Hyunjin scrapes his teeth over Jeongin's pulse point, relishing in the shiver that runs through his boyfriend's body before he melts, neck bared for him to do as he pleases. “Bed?”
Jeongin shakes his head, going in for a quick peck. “Can we just stay like this?”
Hyunjin answers with another kiss, lets Jeongin press him against the back of the couch. Can they? He slides his hands under Jeongin's shirt and starts to pull it up, because making out fully clothed goes against their beliefs as a couple. If it were up to Hyunjin, he would find a way to get rid of everything that forces them to ever be apart— outfits included. No responsibilities, no fucking… pee breaks. The only reason he hasn't fully committed to the cause is the fact that he would miss Kkami terribly.
But this— this is perfect. Hyunjin packed a small bag on Friday for a sleepover and then stretched his stay, which is still on-going. Now here he is: fresh out of the shower, dressed solely in his boyfriend's clothes and with a busy mouth. All weekends should be like this, he thinks, and then comes to the giddy realization that yeah, they can. Who's to say the opposite?
Jingling keys, a familiar click. Jeongin's door swings open without warning, and Hyunjin's hands flounder to keep Jeongin hidden, tugging the hem of his shirt back down. Jeongin startles but remains in place, choosing to greet the intruder with a fearless scowl.
Seungmin takes one look at their compromising position and scoffs. “Of course.”
“Ever heard about knocking?” Jeongin complains, climbing out of his perch on Hyunjin's lap to sit like someone who doesn't want to be surgically attached to his partner. Hyunjin takes full offense.
“Why would I?” Seungmin shakes his keyring in front of their faces, the small Pochacco charm attached to it bouncing violently with each swing. “I have a key.”
Jeongin drapes his right arm over Hyunjin's shoulders and pulls him in while his left slithers around his torso, locking around his waist. Hyunjin forgives him immediately. “Yeah, for emergencies.”
“It is,” Seungmin says. He puts his bag down on the table and takes out his computer, then walks over to the TV stand. “I'm calling for an intervention.”
“An… intervention?” Jeongin echoes, confused. “What for?”
Seungmin cranes his neck and searches for the HDMI cable on the back, fully ignoring him. Hyunjin squirms. He imagined it, right? That quick but deadly side-eye. He looks at Jeongin to see if he's also sensing a weird vibe, but all he gets is a smile and a string of kisses pressed to his temple, cheek and mouth. Huh. Maybe Hyunjin's still sleepy. He and Seungmin barely speak to each other, certainly not enough to form antagonistic opinions. Jeongin's best friend, Jeongin's boyfriend— that's as far as their knowledge on each other goes.
This time, when they turn to the TV, a Canva presentation awaits: To BF(F) or not to BF(F), the title reads. Seungmin situates himself next to the screen with his phone in hand, ready to launch into what is gearing up to be a lengthy speech. Jeongin gives him the green light with an easy nod that makes Hyunjin wonder if this is a normal occurrence for them.
Tap. The slide changes to a collage of his and Jeongin's childhood pictures, ranging from diaper days to their high-school graduation photoshoot. “Am I your best friend, Jeongin?” He starts.
Jeongin blinks, caught off guard. “Um. Yes?”
“Did you just—” Seungmin opens and closes his mouth a few times, utterly floored, then takes an angry step forward. “Did you just hesitate?”
“No!” Jeongin firmly denies, eyebrows knitted together. “Of course you are, stupid. I'm just trying to figure out what you're getting at.”
Seungmin narrows his eyes at him, suspicious, but still jumps to the next slide. It contains only a huge question mark. “When was the last time we hung out?”
Jeongin scratches his head. “Wednesday?”
“What did we do?” Seungmin prods. He crosses his arms over his chest and starts tapping his foot, impatient.
“It was a study sesh.”
Seungmin hums. “Did we talk?”
“Not much,” Jeongin says. “You don't like getting sidetracked.”
“Mhm. And before last Wednesday?”
Jeongin's eyes flit all over the room as he thinks. Spent in silence, a minute stretches for too long. Seungmin points at him with an enthusiastic finger, like a lack of response was exactly what he needed to keep the presentation going. “Right!”
Tap. In Arial, size as big as space constrictions allowed and emphasized by both bold & italics. NEGLECT. Oh, Jeongn thinks. Oh, fuck. Wait.
Seungmin still spells his accusations out for the room, loud and clear. “I haven't seen your ugly face in weeks. I… eugh, look at what you're making me say,” He flinches, makes a face. “I… I miss it.”
Jeongin feels as flaming hot shame runs its course— he's been a shitty, shitty friend. He never thought he'd be the kind to get too caught up in a relationship, and had specifically vowed against it during early teenage years after seeing the damage it could bring. Broken bonds, petty fights. We're so above that, Seungmin had said. Yeah, totally, Jeongin agreed. It felt like a no-brainer. After all, at 17 only a few things were sure in life: the Sun rises in the east, sets in the west, and he'll always be Kim Seungmin’s friend.
Hyunjin detangles himself from the embrace, looking at him with a disappointed, dim glint in his eyes that matches the downturn of his mouth. Jeongin also thought he knew what being in love felt like before this angel came into his life, but it only took a week, a smile and a heartbeat pattern so frantic he thought he was going into cardiac arrest to prove him wrong. He feels another painful pang in his chest.
“Have you been ditching your friends for me?” His boyfriend asks, voice laced with reproach. “Yang Jeongin!”
“I think… no, I know that I have,” He says, aware that excuses are in vain and worth heaps less than a good owning-up to. Jeongin meets Seungmin's eyes and breathes out a sigh. “Hyung, I should've fixed this sooner. I'm really, really sorry.”
Seungmin raises an eyebrow. “And?”
“And… I'll do better from now on,” Jeongin promises. “I'll— I'll make it up to you!”
“Make him pay for it, Seungmin!” Hyunjin says. Jeongin pouts, but his boyfriend is too immersed in helping set his sentence to kiss it away. “He deserves it.”
“Oh, I will,” Seungmin says. Tap; a new slide. This time, there's a perfectly centered stock image of a delivery man handing someone else their package. “Literally. You're going to be funding my DoorDash orders this week.”
Jeongin has no choice but to give in. “Okay, sure.”
Tap. A pixelated close-up of Freddy Fazbear. “We’re gonna go watch the Five Nights at Freddy's movie in theaters,” He adds.
Jeongin's lips twitch into a smile. “Uh-huh. Am I paying for the tickets, too?”
“And the popcorn,” Seungmin says. Tap. Free Canva graphics: a McDonald's Happy Meal, a calendar and a clock. “Now you'll go pick up dinner for the three of us while your boyfriend and I schedule our weekend visits.”
Jeongin blinks. “You’re not serious.”
“I want a Big Mac with fries.”
“A double cheeseburger for me,” Hyunjin says. He leans in to peck him on the lips before taking off to sit with Seungmin on the floor, Google Calendar open on the computer screen. “Thank you, baby!”
“Cute nails,” Seungmin points at Hyunjin's hands, folded on his lap. “Where did you get them done?”
“I painted them myself!” Hyunjin grins. He splays his fingers on his jeans so Seungmin can better appreciate the designs. “I could do yours sometime.”
“Sure.”
Jeongin blinks, again. “You're serious.”

At the age of 22, Jeongin can still count the sure things in the world with one hand: the sun rises in the east, sets in the west, he'll always be Kim Seungmin's friend and he’s going to build a life with his boyfriend, Hyunjin, by his side.
