Melancholy Dreaming

Summary:

A teen girl and boy lay tired.

Notes:

The song I was listening to while writing was Frozen Pines by Lord Huron

Work Text:

It was a calm October evening. Two teenagers, one girl and one boy were at their respective homes preparing. The short haired brunette girl unwrapped a package of razor blades and started the bathtub. The slim brown haired boy was studying. Both were tired and ready to rest. The boy finished his last note and closed his notebook. The girl stepped into the tub after taking one last look in the mirror. The boy stood up from his chair and walked toward his bed. He decided without much to do, it was time for bed. Without anything else to do, the girl sat inside the tub with hot water. The boy laid down on his bed and covered himself in his blanket. The girl began digging the razor blades into her wrists and laid back. They both lay in their respective homes, waiting. Both were tired. The girl closed her eyes. The boy did the same.

The boy dreamed. In a familiar place he walked. The gentle breeze touched his face, the soft light filled his eyes. As he walked and took in the sights and sounds, he saw her. She’d been waiting. The brunette girl, her short hair had grown back in long flowing hair.

“Hey, Helmet.”

"Hey, Hannah. Nice day, huh?”

The girl shrugged.

“If you say so, Clay,” she replied.

The boy smiled softly.

The girl looked away for a moment before looking back at the boy.

“I have to go, Clay. I just wanted to say goodbye and thank you.”

The boy raised an eyebrow.

“Go where? And thank me for what?" He asked.

The girl tensed her lip and gently took both of Clay’s hands.

“I...can’t say, Clay. But I wanted to thank you for being kind and decent to me. I had a wonderful time with you. I’ll never forget it,” the girl said.

The boy smiled.

“You're very welcome, Hannah. Will I see you again?” The boy asked gently.

The girl looked at him softly, they were still holding hands.

“I don’t know for sure. Just think about me, every now and then. Because I’ll certainly be thinking of you. Will you do that for me, Helmet?”

“Of course, Hannah. I’ll do that. I promise.”

The girl smiled.

“Thank you, Clay. And when you reach your journey's end, come find me.”

The boy nodded.

“I definitely will,” he said softly.

The girl gripped the boys arms tighter, as if not wanting to let go.

“If I ever hurt you in any way, Clay, I’m so sorry. Please forgive me,” the girl said.

The boy nodded gently.

“But you’ve been nothing but good to me, Hannah?” he said, unsure of what she meant.

The girl smiled with a hint of sadness in her eyes and waved goodbye to the boy as she walked into the bright horizon.

The boy would sleep deeply through the night until morning. He would have other dreams about other things and wouldn’t remember the one he had about the girl.
