Chapter Text
It all started with a news article Velma had stumbled upon in the paper.
“Hey, the Pizzeria we keep getting asked to investigate is looking for a new night guard,” she said.
Ever since they’d arrived in this town, people had been asking Mystery Incorporated to investigate the abandoned and shut down Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria.
While most people were vague with their reasons for wanting the gang to investigate, a group of parents stepped forward, all with missing person posters of their children.
“We know they’re in there somewhere, the police said they searched every inch but you have to look and see,” one of the women said.
“Every other detective we’ve asked has refused and said the case is closed, there isn’t anything they can do,” one of the men added.
“Please, you have to help us,” another begged.
The gang all looked at each other and knew they couldn’t say no.
“We’ll check it out and come back to you with whatever we find at the end of the week,” Fred said.
“We can’t promise we’ll find anything, but we can promise to look over everything and see what the police have missed,” Velma added.
The parents thanked them and left them to it.
“Jeepers, am I the only one who hopes we don’t find anything?” Daphne asked.
“Like nope, me and Scooby are just as freaked out by that!” Shaggy replied.
“Yeah!” Scooby agreed.
Velma hummed. “It is weird how a supposedly abandoned and shut down pizzeria would need a night guard. Why would the owner be willing to pay someone to do this if it’s not necessary?”
No one had an answer for this, of course.
“Well gang, it looks like we’ve got another mystery on our hands,” Fred announced.
“Well Scoob, like let’s hope this ends well,” Shaggy muttered.
Scooby just nodded.
…
Somehow the hipster and his dog got convinced to go and interview for the night guard position.
“Like why does it have to be us, the two who are the most scared of everything!? We don’t even know what’s in there, like what if WE’RE the ones who need guarded!”
Scooby just whimpered from where he hid behind Shaggy.
“Come on, you two. If you don’t get the job then one of us can try but it’s the most legal way of getting in,” Fred explained.
“Yeah, we can’t have issues with the police or we’ll never solve this mystery,” Velma added.
“Like don’t you think maybe we should keep it that way? Based on what you’ve said about ‘killer animatronics’ and ‘children disappearing’ like, I can’t think of a reason we SHOULD keep investigating!”
“Yeah!” Scooby said, shaking with fear.
Daphne pulled something out of her purse. “If you do the interview, you can get a whole box of Scooby Snax!”
“…like for just doing the interview?” Shaggy asked.
“Yep, even if you don’t get the job.”
“Like, what do you think, Scoob?”
Scooby nodded enthusiastically. “Yeah yeah yeah yeah!”
“Like I agree, we’ll do it!”
Soon the two were sitting in front of a man called Dave Miller, a career counsellor who was also in charge of interviewing candidates who might be suitable for the Fazbear’s night guard position.
“So, Norville…you prefer Shaggy, it says here, is that right?”
“Like yes, sir.”
“Okay then. So, Shaggy…you want to be a night guard?”
“Yes I do, sir.”
“Hmm…and you need your dog with you for this?”
“Like yeah, I never go anywhere without him. If it’s not possible, you can find someone more suitable-“
“No no, I can talk to the owner, he’ll be fine with it. Can you start tonight?”
“Uh…like, yeah!”
“Great! Now, here’s what you need to know…”
…
“Like you should’ve promised us a second box if we aced the interview,” Shaggy said to Daphne as he and Scooby ate the last of the Scooby Snax.
She shrugged. “At least you got the job.”
“Yeah, but like now we have to go into an abandoned restaurant after dark and stay there for six hours! Not to mention like the killer animatronics!”
“First, the bites of ’83 and ’87 were ruled as accidents and the night guards who reported movement were suffering from hallucinations due to lack of sleep. Second, anything could have happened to those children, that’s what we’re here to get to the bottom of,” Velma said.
“You’d do it if it were us, right?” Fred added.
Shaggy sighed. “Like yeah, we would, so I guess like we have to do it for those parents. Alright, Scoob and I are gonna go find some food, because like if this restaurant is abandoned, I doubt that’ll have any.”
