Strange Human

Summary:

When you mysteriously appear on the grounds of the newly-built RAD campus, Lucifer finds himself stuck with an enigma of an attendant who has a knack for meddling in his family's affairs. With so many secrets on both sides, Lucifer is certain you can't be trusted. And he will do whatever is necessary to keep his brothers safe.

Or:
Obey me! Nightbringer from Lucifer's POV. This demon has lived in my brain rent-free for far too long and I'm a sucker for swapped perspectives. This is my interpretation of what was going through his mind during everything.

Chapter Text

Lucifer hated this.

He had been miserable from the moment he had fallen from grace, even more so because his brothers had fallen with him. Lucifer knew what the consequence would be for standing against their Father. He had fully accepted it; however, he couldn't stop the throbbing sense of guilt that permeated his being every time he saw his brothers.

Twisted horns, black wings, tails.

All of it was wrong.

It was his fault that they had lost their place in the Celestial Realm, even if they had followed him of their own accord. His fault that their dear sister Lilith had been lost. His fault that they were now without a home, stuck in the Devildom, and confined to the Demon Lord's Castle.

His fault.

Worst of all, none of his brothers could even know the truth about their sister's fate. That was yet another burden Lucifer had to carry alone, all the while keeping his head high as the one who they all looked to for direction. But damn it all if he wasn't prepared to play that part until the end of time. He would keep his brothers safe, even if he had to destroy himself in the process. He would protect them at all costs.

You were a threat. You, who held such mysterious powers of subjugation over them all with a single word. You, who had appeared from nowhere, knowing things that should have been impossible for you to know. A demon who Diavolo did not recognize, but a demon nonetheless. Untrustworthy. Unpredictable. Unprecedented. And in association with the scheming human sorcerer Solomon, no less, just another fact that set off Lucifer's inner alarm bells. Everything about you was suspicious, right down to where they had found you.

So why did his brothers take such an immediate liking to you? Why did Diavolo trust you enough to not only assign you as their "attendant", but also ask you to help in founding his ridiculous school? And above all, why were you so easy to speak candidly to, despite all his regular instincts? What was the reason for the way you had looked at him - with confusion and sadness - upon your first meeting? Nothing about your sudden existence in their lives made any sense, and that made you a frustrating complication that Lucifer really did. Not. Need. It was as if you had been sent specifically to get close to them, specifically to make him drop his guard...

A trick from their Father? Had they not been punished enough? No... perhaps he was being paranoid.

Regardless, Lucifer would be keeping you at arm's length until he could answer these questions. He would wear the mask he had perfected, to give none of these thoughts away. Perhaps having an attendant in their new House of Lamentation would be useful, so long as you didn't meddle in their affairs too much. He would work with you if he must, if Diavolo insisted; but all the while he would be watching closely.

Watching for any clue that might reveal your true purpose. Waiting to see what your intentions with his family truly were.

And if you turned out to be a danger to them, as he suspected?

He would destroy you without hesitation to keep his brothers safe.

Notes:

Hey thanks for reading! This is the first fan work I've ever published, so I'm sure my writing has room for improvement. I sort of wrote this on a whim, but I ended up liking it a lot, and I plan to continue. Not sure of an update schedule or how many chapters there will be, but I'm excited to finally put my work somewhere other people can see.
Until next time!
