The Spy Who Saved Me

Summary:

Poe Dameron's world is rocked when he learns the spy who has been feeding info to the Rebellion is General Armitage Hux. And he happens to be just Poe's type.

Happy GingerPilot Week!

Day 1 prompt: "Oh no, he's hot!"

Work Text:

This was it.

The end.

But, as Poe glanced at his friends, the only regret he felt was that they hadn’t been able to escape.

He always knew this was a possibility. And he was proud to have gone down fighting. Proud to be standing next to Chewbacca and Finn.

“Actually, I’d like to do this myself.” Hux’s voice came behind them.

Poe took a deep breathe and shut his eyes tight.

Of course that sick bastard wanted to be the one to fry them.

There was some mechanical rustling, the sound of a blaster being adjusted.

Poe opened his eyes and looked at Finn. He really didn’t want to go out not knowing what he had to say to Rey. Poe was nosey, he couldn’t help it, gossip was his vice (well, one of his vices). His friend owed him this last indulgence.

“What were you gonna tell Rey before?”

“You still on that?”

“Oh, I’m sorry, is this a bad time?”

“Sort of is a bad time- yeah-”

Then, the ‘pew pew!’ of a blaster. Metal hitting the ground with a thump.

Silence.

Poe held his breath. But no death came.

Turning over his shoulder, he saw three dead stormtroopers on the ground next to a pair of perfectly-shine black boots.

Poe raised his eyes and saw Hux, slightly flushed, lips parted, eyes wide and alive, clutching the blaster.

A total fucking vision.

“I am the spy.” Hux said, looking into Poe’s eyes.

Poe’s stomach nearly dropped out of his ass.

This was the hottest thing he had ever seen.

Maybe Poe really had died, and now he was in heaven.

Sure, he’d secretly thought Hux was a complete fox, physically. A tall, redhead with a body to die for and cheekbones sharp enough to kill? Duh. He was a regulation-certified babe. But him, here, just having saved their lives, risking his own, panting, staring straight into his soul made Poe feel like he was the one hit by the blaster.

“What?!” Poe choked out.

“You?!” Finn shouted.

But Hux’s green eyes, sparkling like jades even under the ship’s harsh fluorescent lighting, didn’t leave Poe’s.

Poe felt dizzy.

All the blood rushed to his groin.

He really did have a habit of getting aroused at the most inopportune times.

“We don’t have much time.” Hux said desperately.

“I knew it!” Poe cheered.

Between the adrenaline from almost being executed and testosterone from what Hux was serving, Poe felt like he'd just smashed a whole bottle of spice wine.

Finn scoffed. “No, you did not.”

“Come. You need to leave!” Hux was already storming down the corridor. “The hangar is this way.”

Poe, Finn and Chewbacca followed behind, racing to keep up with Hux’s long strides.

Those legs. Poe closed his eyes and shook his head. He needed to keep his shit together. They weren't out of danger yet.

When they reached the hangar, Hux slapped a large black button. “I’ll shut down the impeders. You’ve got seconds!”

“There she is. She’s a survivor.” Poe said to himself when he saw the Falcon.

He turned to see Hux looking at him. “Go! You need to go! They’ll be a security alert any moment.”

But those green eyes froze Poe in place.

“Come with us.” He said.

Hux’s mouth fell open. “I can’t-” he said, shaking his head.

“Poe?! What are you doing?!” Finn hissed.

But Poe ignored him.

“They’ll find out you’re the spy and they’ll kill you. Come on.”

“You need to go! Now!” Hux urged. “Please!”

“Poe! Come on!” Finn shouted. He and Chewbacca were already down at the ship.

“Go! Go now!” Hux slammed his hand on the impeder button again. “Please, go.” He pleaded, voice cracking.

Swallowing, Poe stuck his hand out to Hux. “Come with me.”

Hux looked at Poe's hand, then back up to meet his eye. He didn’t say anything, but, hesitantly, he took Poe’s hand. Slowly at first, their fingers meeting and interlacing, then, all at once, he clutched Poe.

There was a frenetic crackle when their hands touched.

Something unspoken passed between them.

Together, they raced down into the hangar and down onto the ship.

Chewbacca had already started the engines, and shot out of the hangar and into the stars as soon as the entry was locked behind them.

Hux hastily ripped his hand out of Poe's and looked away.

Suddenly, Finn jumped on Hux and wrestled him to the ground.

“Poe?! What the FUCK?!” He yelled, grabbing Hux’s arms and holding them behind his back, tying them together with a cord. “Why would you bring him?!”

“It was going to be obvious he was the spy! The Order was going to kill him!”

“So?! He’s the biggest mass murderer in the galaxy!”

“Finn. He’s a person, too.” Poe said. “That’s what sets us apart from the First Order. We don’t just let people die. No matter what they’ve done.”

Hux stopped struggling and looked up a Poe.

Finn sighed and shook his head. "Okay. Whatever. But you're the one who has to explain this to the rest of the Rebellion. And he's going in the storage cabin."

A couple hours into their flight, Poe knocked on the storage cabin door.

"Can I come in?"

The voice on the other side of the door snorted. "Why are you asking me?"

Poe pushed open the door. Hux was sitting on the floor, leaning against the wall. His legs and arms bound with the cords.

He looked good, all tied up.

Not the time, Poe! Not the time! He thought to himself, his mind already knee deep in the gutter.

Poe knelt down, and placed some water and a nutrition pack next to Hux.

"You hungry? Thirsty?" He asked.

"I'm fine, Dameron." Hux muttered, looking down. "But, thank you."

“Hux?”

Hux looked at him from under sloped brows. “Don’t call me that.” He whispered.

“What?”

“Hux. That’s my father’s name.”

“Uh- oh. I mean, yeah, sure. What do you want me to call you?”

Hux looked at Poe’s hand. He started to speak, then sighed and shook his head.

“Hey. It’s alright, Red. You’re going to be alright.”

Hux shut his eyes and let out a small, weak chuckle.

“You like that?" Poe teased, Hux's little smile spreading a warmth through his chest. "Want me to call you Red?”

“It’s better than Hux.” He replied.

“Alright. Red it is.” Poe chuckled.
