Chapter Text
Camila didn't get to visit the Demon Realm often.
She wanted to visit more, but time was never on her side. Luz was often busy with studying for magic school or rebuilding the Boiling Isles, and Camila still had her nine-to-five job. But on the rare occasion when the stars aligned, both were always overjoyed to see each other.
The majority of the time, Camila only had time to visit Luz and not anyone else. Luz was her priority to visit, of course, but she had missed seeing her friends as well. Each of them unique in their own way.
However, today, the stars had not only aligned, but they had aligned perfectly to a tee, as Camila had plans to not only visit Luz but visit all of her friends as well. They had planned a dinner party in the demon realm with none other than Darius Deamonne as the host. Although this wasn't the first time such a party was planned, it wasn't a common occurrence, as this was only the second time ever in the months since the Boiling Isles was saved.
It was absolutely perfect timing, too, as a huge movie was coming out in the human realm—a Cosmic Frontier movie adaptation. Camila was excited to see Hunter and Gus because of this. This news would be massive for them, as Camila knew just how much Cosmic Frontier meant to them. She couldn't wait to see the young boys' reaction, as she knew that they would absolutely lose their minds.
After getting off work at 5 PM, Camila drove home and got her things together in preparation to head over to the Demon Realm. She was just about ready to go, but before she was about to leave, she had to say goodbye to Vee. "¡Mija!" she called.
Vee slithered to her. "¿Si, Máma?" she replied.
"I'm leaving now," Camila told Vee. "I'll be back by midnight, possibly with the boys."
"It'll be nice to have some of the others back here, even if it's just the boys. They're going to be so happy when you tell them the big news," Vee said.
Camila smiled. "I can't wait to see their faces light up. One last thing before I go, would you like to come with me?"
Vee sadly smiled. "I'd like to one day, but today's not that day. I hope you have fun with everyone, though."
"That's okay, mija," Camila said, gently running her fingers through Vee's mane. "We have all the time in the world. ¡Adios!" Camila said as she left.
"¡Adios, Màma!" Vee replied.
Camila headed over to the abandoned house, opening the door to see that it was in the exact same state as when Hexsquad was still there. Camila saw this every time she went to visit the Demon Realm, but nothing changed the fact that this place now had an eerie, gloomy, empty vibe to it. It was like the house had been abandoned a second time. Camila let out a heavy sigh and entered the portal, showing up in the peaceful grassland outside Bonesborough by Gwen and Dell's house. Camila was immediately greeted by Luz, Eda, and King, who were outside waiting for her to arrive. "Máma!" Luz cried, running over and tackling her with a hug. "¡Es genial verte!"
Camila chuckled, hugging Luz back. "¡Es genial verte también, mija!"
"Hey, tall Luz!" Eda greeted, walking over. "Great to see you again."
"You know her name is Camila, right?" King whispered, perching on her shoulder.
"It's an inside joke; don't question it," Eda whispered back with a wink, and then she walked over to Camila and Luz. "Hate to ruin the moment, but we ought to head over to Darius'. We're running a little late. Oh, and don't worry, I made sure the goop man knows that humans can't handle most demon realm food because, woo boy, Alador really screwed you poor humans over last time."
Camila playfully rolled her eyes. "Oh yeah… that wasn't fun."
Luz smiled. "Hunter has told me that Darius has learned a lot of his favorite human realm foods," she said. "So he should be really good at making sure we got something to eat.”
"That's good and all, but can we go now?" King whined. "I'm hungry!"
"That's nothin' new," Eda remarked with a snort. "You must be due for a growth spurt. In all seriousness, I apologize in advance, tall Luz, but we're gonna have to fly to get there."
Camila tensed up. "Well, I suppose we should get it over with."
After a flight where Camila held on for dear life, she, along with the others, made it to the Deamonne household. They entered to see abominations cooking up a meal in the kitchen with Darius directing them. "Hey goopster!" Eda called, getting Darius' attention. "Tall Luz and little Luz are here!"
"Don't call me that, Owl Lady!" Darius snapped. He then headed over to Camila, immediately softening his tone. "Nice to see you after all this time. I apologize for not showing up to the last dinner party at the Blight Manor. Alador and I…" Darius cringed. "Well, let's just say we need to work out some kinks. I heard last time it didn't go very well for your fragile human digestive tracts but don't worry, I got this under control. Come sit."
Camila, Luz, Eda, and King all headed to the table, where they saw Willow, Hunter, Gus, and Amity, as well as Perry, Gilbert, and Harvey, sitting and chatting. "Hello!" They happily chimed in unison.
"Hello!" Camila, Luz, Eda, and King replied. Upon scanning the group, something immediately struck Camila about Hunter. He had a cast around his right arm. She immediately hurried over to him. "Oh goodness, Hunter, what happened?"
Hunter recounted the… incident , promptly blushing in shame. "It's uh, it’s a long story… but in short, it was a Flyer Derby accident. I lost control and crashed. I'm on very strong pain potions and healing power glyphs for the next few weeks."
Gus leaned in. "Yeah, it was a very messy situation, to say the least."
Hunter gave him a glare as his face turned into an even brighter red.
Camila frowned. "You poor thing… that must hurt, but I know what will cheer you up. I have a little surprise for you and Gus."
Hunter's and Gus' eyes lit up. "Really?!" They both said.
Camila nodded, chuckling. "Yes. I'll tell you after dinner."
Dinner went very smoothly. Camila and Luz ate some spaghetti, while everyone else ate slither ribs. When everyone was finished, Camilla was ready to drop her surprise to the boys. "Well, I got big news for Hunter and Gus," she announced. The young boys leaned in as Camila smiled, "Okay, you might freak out just a little bit. They announced there's going to be a Cosmic Frontier movie-"
"A WHAT?!" The two boys shouted.
Camila chuckled. "Yep. I already bought all three of us tickets to see it in the human realm on Saturday."
The two boys stared at each other with their jaws dropped. "Can we sleep over at Camila's for the weekend?!" Hunter asked Darius.
"Why would I say no?" Darius replied, "But I'm not Gus' dad, he’d-"
"That's fine with me," Perry said.
"Wow, I didn't even get to finish my sentence." Darius teased.
The two boys exchanged wide grins. A Cosmic Frontier movie adaptation? That was the most exciting thing either of them had heard in ages. They'd finally get to see the enterprise they had been imagining for all this time! They'd finally get to see the characters they loved on the big screen! They may have never dreamed of this happening, but it was certainly a dream come true.
They simply couldn't wait to see it.
