Chapter Text
The subtle sloshing sound soon grew meditative to Ellie as she sat crouched over in the bloodied water. The bleak gray clouds started to loosen their grasp on the morning sky letting some hints of light shine through. When It reached the water the light highlighted its true murky color and reflected it right back into Ellie's eyes. She closed them fast, and as soon as she did a dull familiar light seemed to grow, from an inconceivably small point, into a memory. Its bittersweetness washed over Ellie as all of the things she desperately wanted to forget resurfaced. A small pained smile tugged at her lips when it her vision adjusted and she caught sight of… him.
That porch, that guitar, that brisk night air, that sound of the rocking chair squeaking back and forth, the faintest smell of coffee, him. His face was concealed scribbled out like in one of her journals, replaced with a painful nothing. She was standing on the porch, and only managed to take a single step forward before feeling a wave of weakness and nausea rush over her. The floorboard underneath her foot creaked and with that he looked up from the steaming mug he was holding. His mouth, still present, tugged it’s sides upward in a haunting smile seeming so vacant without his eyes there to follow suit. His mouth opened and out pushed words undecipherable at first bringing with them a wind so aggressive that it knocked her backwards and onto the deck. The instant before her head impacted on the wood his two words, the first of his last, became clear.
Hey Kiddo.
Her eyes opened. Back to the beach, back in the water. Alone.
