Work Text:
She walked with me to the metro and stepped on the train with me.
“Don’t you have another client coming?” I said.
She shrugged and said, “the clients can wait.”
I looked at her closely. God she was stunning. She had changed from the girl that I had first met four years ago. Her black hair was straight slightly longer than shoulder length. Her eyes were still piercing. She wore a black skirt with tights and purple sweater.
“Holmes, are you sure about my moving in?”
She laced her fingers between mine and said, “honestly Watson, have I ever proposed you do something that I wasn’t sure of?”
I took our intertwined hands and I kissed her hand. I could see a faint blush rise in her face.
“Okay. But this apartment is temporary. I still want to live in Baker Street.”
”ah, I wonder who we have to bully to let the people out of the museum.”
“I’m okay with anything as long as it doesn’t involve murder. It doesn’t involve murder right?”
I looked to see her reaction and she said, “Watson my plans don’t always involve murder.”
“most of the time”
She looked at me with a slight death glare then slightly smiled.
I became a journalist and part time author. We lived in that old apartment for those five years while I was studying and later becoming a new journalist. I helped Charlotte with cases on the weekends too. Her consulting business grew with some memorable cases that I documented.
Five years later, we packed the lab equipment and the hundreds of textbooks and the one too many journals and moved into Bakers Street.
“Honestly I see why Sherlock liked this place so much. It’s so-“
“Sherlock”
She put down the last of the boxes, and we spent the next few hours talking about her latest case and setting up our apartment. Mouse sat on the window still next to the wax bust of Sherlock and decided it was his new spot.
“Do you think we should put the bust away? It’s kinda creeping me out.” I asked.
”would you rather we have it in our bed room?”
“uh, yeah no it can stay.”
She picked up the bust and placed it in one of the boxes.
“He creeps me out too.”
She hung her legs off the side of the bed as I laid down. I moved next to her and asked, “is something wrong?”
“No, I’m just thinking about how our lives turned out.”
“Do you regret it?”
She laid down next to me and said, “this is the first time I’ve been happy for so long. I feel” She hesitated and winced “scared that it will all disappear.”
She still found it difficult to tell anyone how she felt, even the person she loved more than the entire world combined.
I paused and said “I know you don’t believe in overly sentimental things, but I will do everything in my power for that happiness to never leave.”
She pulled me in and kissed me slowly. She held my face in her hand. When she parted from me, she whispered, “Jamie Watson will you marry me?”
“Yes.” I kissed her forehead and held her close to me. We slowly fell asleep, away from all the pain and problems of our pasts. Finally we were home.
