Chapter Text
Tim: „Ashley and I, uh, broke up. Well, I guess technically, she broke up with me.“
Lucy : „I'm sorry.“
Tim: „Thanks. Look, and just so you know, I-I did appreciate your whole radio gag... a little. It took my mind off things.“
Lucy:“Well, good.“
Chris joined them: „Lucy. Ready to go?“
Lucy: „Uh, yeah. D-- Uh, do you want to join us? We're gonna go grab a bite to eat.“
Tim:“Oh, no, no. I'm good. I'm g-- I'm -- I'm beat. You two have fun.“ He left, went to his truck.
Chris:“Mediterranean sounds good?“
Lucy:“Yeah. That sounds great.“
Lucy and Chris turned to leave while Tim just waited a minute, standing at his trucks door. By opening the stations door, Lucy looked back, wondering why she was worried. She followed Chris into the building straight to the elevator. But when they had to wait there, she decided to follow her feelings and go back. „Just a moment, Chris.“ By leaving the station she already saw Tim’s truck still standing on the parking slot. She hurried to the truck, followed by Chris: „Lucy, what do you..“ „There is something wrong, Chris.“
She reached the truck, seeing Tim sitting pale and motionless behind the steering wheel. „Come on Lucy, Tim is just fooling you once again.“ Chris said. She didn’t knock, she slammed the door immediately open.
„Tim, is everything alright?“
He looked at her with an annoyed gaze. „Yes, of course. Just go on.“
„You‘ve heard him. We can leave,“ Chris mentioned.
But Lucy didn’t let go as she felt Tim was not okay. She stated: „You‘re not okay at all.“
„It’s alright. I just didn’t think, Ashley could break my heart literally. That’s all.“ Tim said, reaching unconsciously for his chest and coughing.
„Oh, Bradford, stop pranking Lucy,“ Chris asked.
„She was the one who played a prank on me.“
„So this is your revenge. You‘ve finished?“
Tim made patronizing hand gesture, but Lucy insisted: „Tim what‘s wrong, you’re short of breath.“
„Nothing what won’t be gone in a few minutes,“ Tim tried to calm Lucy and also himself, as he recognized that the pain in is chest and his shortness of breath were worsening.
„Just look into my eyes, tell me what’s wrong with you.“
He tried to look into her warm brown eyes, pretending, everything was okay, but he had to cough heavy and holding his aching chest.
„Chris, would you please call an ambulance,“ Lucy asked worried.
„Lucy, he already got you again…“
She saw Tim leaning now over the steering wheel.
„Chris, this is…“
But Chris just turned away, saying: „I see, he is more important to you than I am!“
„Chris, could you please help,“ Lucy asked distressed and annoyed at the same time.
As she saw Chris leaving to the other side, she took her own mobile and dialed 911, telling Tim, she was going to call for help now. She expected him to interrupt her - he didn’t do so. Now she was sure that this was no prank but really serious.
„911- what’s your emergency?“
„Police officer out of service, Lucy Chen, speaking. I need an ambulance to Mid-Wilshire police station, male person 41 years old with chest pain, shortness of breath.“
„Try to him calm down and get him a comfortable seat, help is coming.“
„Thank you.“
She turned to Tim who was really pale now.
„Tim, help is coming. How do you feel.“
„I‘m dizzy and it’s…like someone has stabbed me into my chest when I breathe in.“
She looked at him with a so much worried gaze that he really felt guilty:
„What about Chris?“
„I don’t care, first I want to know you’re safe.“
