Kairi's Regrets

Summary:

If only she were stronger....

Then she could have prevented all of this.

From the moment she was taken from her home and into a new world — The Destiny Islands, her fate was tied to the keyblades.

Her destiny alined with Sora and Riku's but still how is it she always was so weak and needed rescuing.

She was always left behind.

Now after Sora is gone, she wasn't the one to go— it was Riku.

And she is left behind again.

Someday maybe she could be strong just like her two friends so she could join them in the Quadratum.

~~~
These are all Kairi's innerthoughts
Notes:
I finally got around and did a story about Kairi and her thoughts post KH3
(See the end of the work for more notes.)
Work Text:
It was all her fault.
If she wasn't so weak she could have prevented any of this.
Was all her training just for nothing?
Of course Sora would go back for her, he would have gone back for anyone but he wouldn't have to if she was stronger.
Xehanort taunted her dreams and nightmares.
She was determined to get him back, so was Riku.
She allowed herself to sleep.
By the time she awoke, a year past.
No Sora.
Sora and Riku always left her behind ever since they got off the island.
It was always them chasing each other.  First it was Sora trying to find Riku and then it was him being more antagonist than usual.
In Castle Oblivion Sora chased the Riku replica as the real Riku chased him once he found out Sora was there.
When Sora slept, Riku kept chasing him and his nobody to bring him back.
When Sora awoke, the first thing he wanted was to find Riku.  Riku still chased him from the shadows.  They even got left in the darkness together at one point.
After their first adventure, they left her alone.  She waited for them to return, but they did not.  They continue to fight the darkness as she stayed on the island.  It wasn't until she was taken that she found them again.
She even remembered when they were both summoned the Yen Sid's tower.  She had no idea what it was for, but it was like they were leaving her yet again.
She couldn't go with them.  She was just a princess of Light.  But why was she just that?  Why couldn't she help?  Why couldn't she be strong too?
All she done was get taken away time after time.
Then Riku returned a bit stronger and brought her to the tower.  Maybe she will finally be helpful.
But Sora had gone.  She was a bit sadden by the fact she had missed him.
That's right she found out she could use a keyblade from Riku.  She would be able to help soon, right?
So she trained.  She worked hard and trained everyday until it was time for the final battle.
However... She failed.
She was taken and her heart shattered into a million pieces.  And the only way was when Sora abused the power of awakening and now he's gone instead.
He abused it.
He practically took her place.
Riku showed up with the Fairy Godmother.  She was to come as well.
It was Riku's dreams that revealed where Sora was.  Now ready than ever, she could save him.  Together — She and Riku can.
But then Riku shook his head.
Oh.
This was inedible wasn't?
"I want to go but my place is here, isn't it?" Were the words she spoke, "I have to train more and get stronger, that way I won't be so weak.  And then I can join you and Sora."
He nodded at her words.
She watched as Riku faced the Quadratum alone and dove into the portal.
Who knows if she would ever see him for a long time?
With Riku gone too, it was just her.
Her friend group — the main trio was broken up.
Sora has been missing and now Riku too has disappeared.
And it was all her fault.
Back at the tower, the others worried for Riku.  But Yen Sid reminded her to resume her training and that's when she had an idea.
"I want to train with Master Aqua"
She was strong and already a master.  She could learn great things from her.
Yen Sid nodded, believing that would be an excellent idea.
But no only could she get stronger, but she could also use her guidance in helping her remember her distant past.
She wasn't always with Sora and Riku.
Once upon a time she was a girl who had somewhere to be.  She was in a place far beyond Destiny Islands.  A world Sora and Riku been countless times.  A world that was struck by great evil, but now turned to it's former self — Radiant Gardens and she was the Princess of Light that resided there.
And one day she was taken as the world slowly began to fall to darkness.  She was experimented on and tested in ways no other could explain.  And by doing so a man wanted answers, he saught out the darkness.  His curiosity was what made the events transpire.  The man sent her into a time capsule — one that would lead her to where those of the keyblade resided.  And it was an island where two boys held hand and hand as a meteor shower occured.
Her traveling through time and space caused a meteor shower as the world's were now being tampered with.
A promise was made that day amongst themselves, a boy told his best friend he would always protect him.  His friend clung to him and nodded.
She was the talk of the island— a girl no older than four was found.  She had barely any memory.  It was too painful to remember.  All the experiments haunted her memories.
But unlike back then she would fight back.
She had to be stronger.
She would show everyone she could protect herself and even protect everyone else.
Just as Master Aqua taught her... Just as she learned little by little as her memories returned of that time.
One day she would join Riku and together they can search for Sora.
And finally she won't be left behind anymore...
She won't be the one having regrets anymore
Notes:
I really want to like Kairi because she has so much potential to be interesting and I want to see more of her.
But what we're shown of her is really little and it's hard to portray much of a personality.
Kairi is either being used for a ship or being something that moves plot and it's sad.
She also deserves better.  I feel like Riku and Sora aren't really good friends.  They constantly forget about her and leave her out. Riku and Kairi didn't even speak to the other in KH3 LIKE AT ALL??
It breaks my heart how it does this and she would be better off with different friends or she should hang out with other people.  Honestly I think she would be good with the "sea salt trio+add ons" Axel, Xion, Roxas, Olette, Hayner, and Pence would be great addition to who she hsngs out with.
I also really enjoyed how her dynamic with Axel changed in Kh3 also if you read the novels it is really interesting how her character is.
Last thing, I really like how she's portrayed in fanon more and personalities people have given her such as making her really close to Riku helping him with his secrets or vice versa with Sora.
But anyways maybe sometime I can try to develop how I think she would act, but for now I made this
