He was late for a conference meeting which caused him to be in a rush. Unfortunately in doing so making his son breakfast was replaced by cereal that was eaten in record time and getting him dressed.
Their morning routine usually is Tony making breakfast. Eggs and the occasional pancakes. Peter gets dressed and Tony redresses him because Peter puts his clothes backwards. Driving to preschool. Peter saying bye and Tony going to work.
Now they are driving to the school. Safely, he would rather miss hundreds of important meetings than get in a accident with Peter in the car.
“Daddy are you okay?” Peter asked softly.
Tony looks in the dashboard mirror and sees Peter looking at him with his eyebrows furrowed together in a cute manner with his fluffy brown hair.
“Of course I am. I just have a super duper important meeting I have to make” Peter nodded along like he knew the exact reason why the meeting was important .
“Okay. Ned said that we can play legos for recess since he has a new lego set.” Tony followed along in Peter's conversation for the exciting Lego set.
Soon they arrived at the school. Tony gets out of the car and opens the door for Peter and he jumps out of the car. The teacher thats there on the sidewalk grabs ahold of Peter's hand and Tony jogs back to the driver seat door and gets in. He starts to drive off until he looks back in the dashboard mirror and sees what he didn't expect.
Peter is standing there crying with the biggest, most adorable frown Tony has ever seen. The teacher looks to be confused at the sudden change of emotion. It hits him that he didn't say “ I love you” to Peter. Tony's heart seems to break slightly at the realisation. So he did what any reasonable person would do. He drove right back around.
Before he even has the chance to exit the car Peter ran towards the door blocking it from being opened.
Tony rolled down the window “ bud I need you to move back to open the door” Peter backed a few more tears going down his face. Tony gets out of the car for the second time.
He crouched down at Peter's eye level. He wiped away the tears carefully around peter glasses. “I love you Peter. I'm sorry I forgot to say it. “Tony pressed a kiss on Peter's head. Peter shook his head after with a little huff.
“I didn't say I love you before you left. Don't be silly daddy, I know you love me. “ Okay that does it. Tony has the official cutest kid ever. Anyone who disagrees will be earning a lawsuit for whatever bullshit he concurs.
“I know you love me to bambino. Don't be sad. How about after school we can get icecream for the rush morning. Maybe even go to the park. How does that sound?” Peter brightens up with the idea of ice cream.
“Okay daddy!” Peter's smile is wide and satisfied.
“I have to leave now. I love you Petey.” Tony was about to get up when Peter hugged him with his tiny little arms barely meeting each other. Tony hugs him back instantly.
“Bye bye I love you too!” Peter says proudly in his ear. The teacher, Mrs Parker, still standing there took Peter by the hand after the duo separated. Peter waved goodbye and Tony went back into the car.
He drove off and glanced at the mirror one more time and was happy to say. His son wasn't crying or frowning but talking to the teacher with excitement as he went inside the building.
He was very late to the meeting but he couldn't care less. It was completely worth it. His son is and would always be his top priority. Ice Cream is also a bonus.
