    “Hob.” Dream could hear the waver in his voice. His body normally responded to his own desires, but here, it seemed to work against him. His throat was tight. It was all wrong, this was all wrong. This was not how it was supposed to go. “Hob, please.”

    Still, his… his friend… ignored his presence.

    TLDR;
    Hob has started hallucinating his Stranger for the past seventy-odd years. When his Stranger actually turns up, he thinks it's another hallucination. Shenanigans ensue to get the pair on the same page.
