Chapter Text
Luke had only known Spencer for a few weeks before he got the call. It was strange for Spencer to be the one to start contact, especially through a phone call, so Luke picked up the phone immediately even though he was in the middle of a run. If he had known what he was about to hear, he would have helped Spencer a lot sooner.
He knew that Spencer had a boyfriend, they talked about him once, but it never came up again. Luke also knew Spencer had a history of drug addiction and self-harm. Luke knew that people in abusive relationships would withdraw from those around them, but that was never the case with Spencer, maybe that’s why Luke didn’t notice sooner.
“Luke...” Spencer had mumbled through the phone
“Hey Spence! What’s up?” Luke asked happily
“I need help.”
With that, Luke raced back to his house and to his car. He drove to Spencer’s location, paying no attention to the speed limit, when he got to the run down house, he walked in without even knocking. He found Spencer laying on the floor, a man was slumped on the couch next to him. Luke glared at the drunken man and helped Spencer stand up. Luke led Spencer to his car and drove away from the house as quickly as he could.
“I’m taking you to the hospital.” Luke had stated
“No, please. Just take me home,” Spencer begged
“I need to know that you aren’t seriously injured Spence. I’m taking you to the hospital.”
Upon reaching the hospital, one thing was made very clear, this abuse had been going on for a while. Based on the old scaring and bruising, Luke didn’t even want to guess how long Spencer had been suffering.
After a very uncomfortable wait at the hospital, Luke loaded Spencer back into the car.
“Can I stay with you tonight? I don’t want him to come find me,” Spencer explained
“Of course, you can.”
The drive to Luke’s was quiet, but it was much more comfortable than it could have been. Even though they hadn’t known each other for very long, they had become friends very quickly. Bonding over their shared need for neatness, and ability to speak Spanish.
Luke showed Spencer around his house saying, “It’s not much, but it does what it needs too.”
Spencer was immediately drawn to the small library in Luke’s bedroom. He brushed through the books on the shelves while Luke talked. By the time Luke had given him a tour of the house, Spencer was aching to sit down. Luke led him back to the living room and offered him something to eat.
“I know that you said you liked hot chocolate, and I just got some new mix, I could make you some?” Luke suggested.
“That sounds great,” Spencer agreed.
