Only Four Hours Away

Summary:

Julián narrowed his eyes even further as he glared at his phone, which lay at the other end of his bed. The intensity of his gaze would burn a hole into it if that were physically possible. He clutched the pillow in his arms closer to his chest and huffed. His impatience was starting to get the better of him.

"What's taking him so long?" Julián thought, "It can't take this long to unpack."

Notes:

Julián and Enzo are so adorable. Makes me want to squish them

Work Text:

Julián narrowed his eyes even further as he glared at his phone, which lay at the other end of his bed. The intensity of his gaze would burn a hole into it if that were physically possible. He clutched the pillow in his arms closer to his chest and huffed. His impatience was starting to get the better of him.

"What's taking him so long?" Julián thought, "It can't take this long to unpack."

He huffed again and flopped onto his side. A pout formed on his lips and his eyes sadly trailed around his bedroom. Eventually, his eyes landed on the alarm clock on his nightstand. It was almost ten p.m. Julián really should've been heading off to dreamland since he had training tomorrow but his boyfriend promised to facetime him tonight once he was finished unpacking. However, Enzo was taking forever.

Julián sighed yet again and sank further onto his mattress. He hugged the pillow even closer to his chest, his vice-like grip threatening to pop the seams and decorate his bed with cotton. His eyes found a blank spot and he focused on it with the hope that time would go by quicker. Obviously, time ticked on at it's usual tempo and the action only served to open up Julián's mind to some doubt.

What if Enzo didn't call him at all?

Julián lightly shook his head and curled further around his pillow. He shouldn't think like that. Enzo was only an hour and a half late. There was a lot of moving parts involved in packing up your life in one country and moving to another for work regardless of profession. Settling in takes time. Besides, Enzo had promised that he'd call him and he never breaks a promise. So, Julián resigned to continue waiting.

Another half hour had passed before his phone finally rang. Julián, who was nodding off at this point, jolted awake. He blinked rapidly, trying to force the sleepiness from his system, and scrambled across his bed to retrieve his phone before it stopped ringing. He lunged forward and nearly fell off the bed due to his momentum. Luckily, Julián managed to right himself just before he could careen off the edge and firmly grasped his phone in his hand. Unfortunately, the motion caused Julián to swipe accept before he was ready.

"Hey amorci- Why am I looking at your floor?"

"Shit," Julián cursed under his breath as he shuffled on his bed, pointedly keeping the front facing camera away from him. He rearranged his previously scattered pillows and combed his fingers through his hair in an attempt to make it look not so disheveled. Deeming himself presentable enough, Julián settled back against his pillows and held his phone a good instance from his face. Enzo's handsome, yet inherently tired, face took up the entirety of the screen and Julián smiled at him.

"Hi nene."

"Did you fall asleep while waiting for me?" Enzo asked.

"No!" Julián said, his voice sounding way too defensive, "Of course not. What... what gave you that impression?"

"There's some drool on your cheek."

Julián gasped and his eyes went wide. He brought one of his hands to his face to wipe it off but stopped as Enzo began laughing. The sweet sound that he loved so much made his heart flutter but it was quickly buried beneath a tiny amount of anger and embarrassment. Julián's face flushed a faint pink in accordance.

"Enzo!"

"Sorry I couldn't resist," Enzo said still laughing, "Your face was priceless."

Julián huffed and jutted out his lips in a pout. His eyes narrowed slightly in a glare as he watched Enzo laugh on his phone screen. He kept that expression until Enzo's laughter finally ceased.

"I am sorry though," he said, "for both tricking you about the drool and keeping you up waiting on me. Unpacking took a lot longer than expected."

"You don't need to apologize," Julián said, "I would've waited however long it took despite how impatient I can get sometimes."

"I know," Enzo said, a small smile dancing on his lips.

Julián smiled back and the couple delved into conversations about random topics. Most of them resulted in raucous laughter, which neither of their neighbours appreciated given the late hour, but they didn't care. This was their first facetime in a while and they were going to enjoy it. As the night went on, both men grew more and more tired. As much as they didn't want it to end, Enzo and Julián knew that they would have to wrap up shortly if they didn't want to be completely exhausted tomorrow. Their coaches would definitely have their heads, or at least Pep would have Julián's.

"Oh, one more thing," Enzo said with a yawn.

"Hmm?"

"I'm only four hours away."

Julián drowsily nodded along before he froze. His face screwed up in confusion as he squinted at Enzo on his phone screen. He already knew that Manchester was close to a four hour trip from Chelsea. Why was Enzo mentioning that now?

"Huh?" Julián finally managed to say. His response caused Enzo to laugh under his breath. He shook his head fondly before returning his gaze to his boyfriend, his eyes darkening.

"I'm only four hours away," Enzo repeated, his voice a bit lower and more seductive than the previous time he spoke.

Julián's expression remained a confused for a few moments before it hit him. His eyes widened slightly at the realization and his blush returned with a vengeance. His cheeks and ears burned a bright red as he refocused his gaze on Enzo, who was now smirking at him.

"Oh..."

"Yeah," Enzo replied, his gaze flicking down to where Julián's blush disappeared beneath the collar of his shirt before coming back up to stare into his eyes, "So, who's making the four hour trip first?"
