Summary
Our East Blue Crew lands on another island after departing Arlong Park. On this island, they meet Hidori Kaida, a beaten young woman who struggles to stand up for herself. A small incident occurs and the crew moves on, wishing the young woman luck in her ventures. Zoro especially cares little for someone who can’t fight for themselves, so he turns his focus away and grumbles about her lack of conviction.
As time passes, games of love play out among the crew. Nami has unrequited feelings for Luffy, Sanji has eyes for Nami, Luffy plays games with Zoro without saying a word as Zoro reciprocates in a way only Luffy understands, and Usopp looks back toward the island with the poor girl they left in the East Blue.
Enter Hidori Kaida once again on the Grand Line, after the crew has fought Crocodile and Baroque Works in Alabasta. Kaida has a dream to build a working flying machine beyond a glider, and her latest attempt has left her stranded in the ocean of the Grand Line. So the crew picks her up and the idea of a flying machine has Luffy promising to help her out to reach her dream. Still, Zoro grumbles, wondering if the pathetic young woman he remembers is the same and wondering what it means for the crew in general.
