It started like normal.
A day any dreamer would have.
The dreamer wishing to go to the outside world because what you don't have you're curious to know more.
It's the tragic fate of many.
Two friends like no other. They've always been so close— so close they even rivaled all the time who could be better.
But that was when she appeared and threatened his friendship with him— Of course no other saw it that way.
It was just he that filled with jealousy, What if they leave him?
He doesn't want his friend to forget him.
So even she turned into a competition, he wanted to push his buttons... He was feeling frustrated... Jealous, and feelings he couldn't yet understand.
"Winner shares a papou fruit with Kairi" He said right up in his face, he couldn't tell you why he got so close to his face when he said that, but he was feeling arrogant and smug knowing it would bother Sora.
How would Sora react?
Unless he wouldn't care about sharing one with Kairi.... That outcome made him somewhat happy.
However, that wasn't the outcome that happened. Instead, he reacted like anyone would—Sora felt like he was supposed to because he was supposed to want to share one with Kairi, right?
He couldn't let Riku do that, right?
The feeling of wanting to beat him and that becoming a rivalry was stronger than actually wanting to share it with her.
Riku won that race.
He smirked with that smug expression, "Oh that papou thing was just a joke...You should have seen your face." Riku told him instead watching Sora's bewildered expression.
Riku closed his eyes, but that expression didn't help anything. He didn't know why it freaked him out so much. The expression that Sora held on his face when Sora realized he might have shared a fruit with Kairi just bothered him. It just made him feel anger somehow, but also rejection.
But he couldn't tell anyone why.
He didn't really know exactly himself.
But it was something he only felt around Sora— Selphie, Tidus, or Wade never made him like that.
Why was he like this? He couldn't stand how Sora was— acting so carefree and lazy. It just bothered him. He watched from a distance as he heard what they said.
Let's get off this island — just the two of us!
What, Riku only thought in horror, Without him? How could they say something like that?
Riku turned away, refusing to hear anymore. It was then Sora's response he didn't hear that could have changed everything if he just stayed and listened. "Huh? We can't leave Riku! I think you have changed Kairi!"
The girl smiled, "Maybe so... Maybe we both have changed, but Sora don't ever change." The fear she didn't like. Change was inedible but she couldn't help but fear it.
One might fears change while another might fear losing their best friend. Those were the fears of the two friends of Sora.
And Riku feeling hurt by those words did something. Darkness purged the islands as he felt jealousy and hurt. He didn't want to be left behind.
Creatures of dark surrounded the island that eve.
The night of change was occuring that moment.
Sora ran around in confusion as he realized their raft they made to get off the islands was being destroyed.
But above else were creepy crawly little monsters with glowing eyes surrounding the place. He had to find Kairi and Riku.
Suddenly he felt a weight of pain in his chest as Kairi's voice echoed in his ears. But the girl was nowhere to be found.
Riku... Riku he thought with joy. He at least found him.
"Riku!" Sora ran up to his friend, but something was different.
He thought of Kairi's words, Riku has changed...
No, he shook his head erasing those thoughts. So what if he has, Riku is still his best friend.
Darkness appeared around his friend, "Riku..." He looked worried for his friend's safety.
And a voice comes into his head— a distant memory from the past.
If something happens and Riku starts to get lost or say he starts wondering down a dark path alone, make sure you stay with him and keep him safe.
That's right, he would always be there for Riku.
Riku then spoke up, "Sora! The door has opened!"
Huh?
At that moment Sora didn't know what he meant, but Riku held out his hand.
"Now we can go to the outside world. There's no turning back, but this may be the only chance we have. We can't let fear stop us! I'm not afraid of the darkness!"
A way to explore other worlds.
He couldn't leave his best friend.
Riku in the midst of everything was slowly being surrounded by darkness, consumed by it if you must, but still Sora reaches for Riku's hand and takes it. Just like that and he doesn't let go. And before they know it, darkness surrounds them.
A keyblade that was given to Riku at only age five
A keyblade that passes through him and into Sora as they both are surrounded by darkness. Then the keyblade goes back to Riku— it keeps going back in forth until it stops at Riku just as he gain consciousness at a distant world.
They had made it.
They survived to a different world.
"Sora!" Riku ran over to Sora who was still unconscious. Sora slowly comes to.
He was glad, he was here with him.
And in the distance was a witch of the dark that extended her arm, she needed them... One was with the keyblade after all.
And Riku always promised to protect Sora just as Sora would make sure to keep Riku safe....
