Work Text:
After Katsuki and Izuku had graduated UA, they had decided to take their mentor's advice and became hero partners. Their alias was The Wonder Duo.
With Izuku's will with One For All, and Katsuki's precision with his explosion quirk, Katsuki knew they were destined for greatness.
The duo were on patrol when they heard a loud noise followed by civilians screaming.
As Katsuki started blasting his way towards the commotion, he shouted to his partner both on field and off, knowing he would be right by his side(he always was).
"Ya hear that, Deku? Finally some fucking action!" he said.
"Don't say that, Kacchan. Violence is never a good thing," Izuku jokingly reprimanded him.
Katsuki just smirked at his attempt to admonish him.
"You can't fool me, nerd. I know your self-sacrificial ass is just as excited about this as me. Hell, probably even more."
He knew his boyfriend like the back of his hand; he knew he was just as wild and crazy as he was.
Throwing his head back, the emerald eyed boy laughed. "C'mon Kacchan, let's just go."
"Don't give me orders!" Katsuki snapped, trying to save face.
The statement lacked the heat that it would have had back in their middle school and early UA days. He had grown up a lot since then, he had years to reflect on his actions and their consequences. By now he was aware that Deku could see right through him, to his very soul. It scared the hell out of him, but he figured he didn't mind it all too much. It gave him a sort of comfort, knowing that someone was able to see the true meaning behind his words and actions; that it was Izuku who understood him so well.
The cause of all the chaos was a villain who seemed to have a type of fire quirk. His hair was a deep orange color and his eyes were a light shade of red. He stood in the middle of a park in Tokyo with a crazed look on his face and fire surrounding him. Getting closer, Katsuki could hear him swearing that he was going to turn the whole city to ashes.
Sneaking up behind the villain, Katsuki hit him with his signature right hook.
The fire user, unaware of the pro hero's arrival, was knocked to the ground. Dazed, but not unconscious, he looked up at his attacker.
Looking down at him, Katsuki snarled, "That's one weak ass quirk you got there. I'll show you what real firepower is." He popped some more explosions for effect.
'Just another crazy moron who thought they could get away with a crime in our patrol route,' Katsuki thought.
What he hadn't expected, however, was that the villain had a partner as well.
A knife was thrown in his direction, but before it could even make contact with his skin, Izuku was there to knock it out of the way.
Green lighting flashed in front of Katsuki before he could even think of how to block it.
Emerald eyes filled with fury, the other half of The Wonder Duo started engaging in combat with the person who dared to try to hurt his Kacchan.
“How dare you!" He snarled.
The second villain had short black hair and black soulless eyes to match, but seeing the raw rage from the hero known for his kindness was enough to show life in his eyes; enough to show fear.
It wasn't long after the two fought the villains that they finished victorious. They were The Symbol of Hope and The Symbol of Victory, and together they fought side by side achieving their goal of both winning and saving.
Any villain who would come their way wouldn't be ready for them, would never come across a unit that worked as well as they did. Any damage that they would cause would be nothing compared to the work the duo could accomplish.
Once they had returned to their agency and filed an incident report, they returned to their apartment after what had been a long day.
The apartment had two bedrooms, a bathroom, a living room, a kitchen, and a closet. To some, it might seem small, but to them, it was home.
The second bedroom was filled with their All Might merch(yes, their) and was also used as storage for their other nonessential things.
The first bedroom was the one where they slept, in their king sized bed. It had all their clothes, gear, and a few pieces of merch that the blond had begrudgingly allowed in their room to make Izuku happy.
He didn't like having their mentor stare at them 24/7, especially during times that were intimate; it was creepy as fuck.
After closing the door to their apartment and locking it, Katsuki pushed Izuku up against it and kissed him as he threaded his hand through curly, green locks.
He was consumed with feelings for the other boy. He hadn't needed to be saved by him, hadn't wanted it either(or that's what it seemed on the surface level. But both Katsuki and Izuku knew that wasn't the actual case). Katsuki couldn't help but feel delighted at the sight of his boyfriend's rage on his account. It was hot as fuck, and he told him so.
He broke the kiss and brushed his thumbs across freckled cheeks, "Izuku, thanks for having my back or whatever. You were hot out there, nerd."
Izuku looked at him like Katsuki was his favorite person(he is), and said "Anytime, Kacchan." Then he smirked in a way that was occurring a lot more frequently, "You looked as hot as ever out there, Dynamight. You probably already know that, though."
Katsuki just smirked back in reply. "Oh yeah? Well you were acting pretty crazy out there. It's nice to see other sides of you in the field once in a while."
"Me? Crazy? You're a wild one, Kacchan. You're a wild one, but I love you, regardless."
A short but loud laugh. "Damn, do I love you."
And he did. Fuck, did he love him.
He used to think Izuku was behind him, that he'd never be up to par with him or his expectations. Oh, how wrong he was. Izuku was able to keep up with him easily- could even pass him if he so wished- but he chose to stay next to him.
They only have one life, that's a fact, and he couldn't have been happier to spend it with his boyfriend; his best friend. His soulmate (as cheesy as that is).
"You know, I had to restrain myself from doing something inappropriate when I saw you like that," Katsuki said, his voice deep. "Was about ready to give 'em a real fucking show."
"Kacchan!" Izuku flushed bright red all over in embarrassment. "It scares me to know I might've let you if you had," he mumbled to himself.
Katsuki chuckled. "Mn. Is that so, freckles?" He teased.
"Yes." Izuku stated without hesitation.
Katsuki knew he hadn't meant to say what he mumbled, but he also knew Izuku had the self confidence to back up his words.
Smirking in a way that wasn't malicious, but was mischievous in its own right, Katsuki said, "I could have, you know. We could've given them the show of their dreams. A kiss they'd never forget. But no one gets to see you like that, Deku. You're for my eyes only." He stared possessively at Izuku, knowing he harbored the same feelings.
"I know, Kacchan. I know." Izuku stared back with the same amount of passion in his eyes. Izuku was just as possessive as Katsuki, if not even more .
They could read each other like a book, so Katsuki knew his childhood friend turned boyfriend would notice the shift in his eyes. The shift of insecurity.
"Hey, Izuku? Do you ever regret this? Us, I mean," Katsuki questioned him.
Izuku's eyes widened at the unexpected question.
"Regret us?" He repeated slowly, questioningly. "No, I'd never! I'm not scared of this feeling, in fact I welcome it with open arms. We might have had some stains of bad in the past, might have had some arguments and disagreements, but I wouldn't change it for anything. We're here right now, together, and that's enough for me. I'm glad we took our relationship as far as we did. Even if our love is destined to fade out like a firework in the future- and I highly doubt it will -I still wouldn't regret it because being with you is the best decision I've ever made."
Seeing many emotions well up in his boyfriend's eyes, Katsuki lifted his hand up to reassuringly cradle his face, softly sliding his thumb back and forth across Izuku's cheek.
He knew the answer already, but he couldn't help but to sometimes be brought back to the time where he had treated Izuku poorly, and he sometimes felt that he was unworthy of his current life with Izuku. But Izuku's feelings came first, he could worry about his own later.
Once he had his green haired counterpart's attention again, he explained his reasoning for asking.
"Shh," He said as soothingly as he could manage. "I'm not breaking up with you or anything else that I know your overthinker brain is coming up with. I didn't ask because I regret being with you. I was just curious about your answer."
Genuinely smiling, he continued to gently caress the freckles of his lover. His hands were capable of so much destruction if he so wished, but they would be soft in the touch of his boyfriend at times like this. An action that was reserved for Izuku, and Izuku alone.
"I also would never change being with you either, for the record. I know that I don't really deserve you, but I'm still going to do my fucking hardest to make up for all the bad memories I gave you and make up for them with happier ones- memories that will stick with you forever. We may not even be here twenty years into the future, but I promise to make every minute worth your while, Izuku."
Izuku leaned down onto Katsuki's chest as he tucked his head underneath his neck and nuzzled the space there.
"I don't doubt you will. I trust you with my life," he told him. "You're right, we may not be around in twenty years, but we have some time until then. Time to spend with one another. Time to spend with friends and family. Time to spend with the world. And you know what? Even after we're gone, they're gonna know we were here. We'll leave our mark on history."
"That's the spirit, Deku." He pulled back to ruffle soft, green, messy hair. "Fuck yeah, well show 'em! We won't slow down, not even after we make it to the top."
"Yeah, Kacchan," Izuku squeezed Katsuki's hands reassuringly. "We'll give them something to talk about for sure."
"Damn right, we will. We're gonna take that number one spot!"
He knew his enthusiasm on the topic was childlike, but it had been his childhood dream to be a hero greater than All Might. It had been their childhood dream. Now, Katsuki had other dreams, ones with his nerd at his side.
Lovingly, because Izuku's eyes, more than any other, were truly the windows to his soul, Izuku stared at his personal supernova. "We'll do it together. I'm glad to have you by my side."
"Cringe," Katsuki teased. "But I am, too, I guess. We're a crime-fighting, ass-kicking, hero machine, and one day, you can bet your ass I'm gonna make it official."
Izuku stared at him with a look of utter confusion. "But we're already a licensed hero duo, Kacchan?"
Oh shit, Katsuki hadn't made himself clear, had he?
"I know that, dork. I meant off the field as well. I'm gonna ring you up one day!" He stated confidently(he had to feign confidence to overpower his nerves).
Emerald eyes widened with excitement, then filled with tears that Katsuki was glad he could identify as happy ones.
"Really, Kacchan? I'd love to be officially yours," Izuku stated, enunciating the last word excitedly with an air of a truth for how much he would love to be Katuski's.
"The feelings mutual, but not quite yet," Katsuki laughed fondly at his enthusiasm. "One day soon, though, and that's a promise, Izuku."
