Work Text:

She took a deep breath in through her nose. A smile spread across her face as she let it out slowly. This time of year always brought her so much joy.

The smell of a freshly cut Christmas tree and Tenya's classic cologne was her favorite combination. It brought back memories of their times at U.A, joking around and swapping gifts with their friends.

Now here they are. Ochako was still smiling when she placed the steaming cups of Starbucks hot chocolate onto the coasters on top of their unpacked boxes of fine porcelain.

"I still think we should have at least unwrapped the coffee table first." Tenya sighed as he sat down criss-cross by the boxes, bringing the drink up to his lips and blowing gently.

"Maybe," Ochako shrugged. "But if we had done that, then we wouldn't have had this beautiful, decorated tree!"

"Yes, we would have," Tenya patted the spot next to him, indicating that was her place. "But you insisted you would have been too tired."

"Well, it's true," Ochako took a sip of her hot chocolate and burnt her tongue. "GAH! Hot!" She waved a hand in front of her mouth as if that would help the burning sensation dissipate.

Tenya only chuckled next to her. "That is in the title of the drink, yes." He took a gentle grip on her chin and tilted her head so her eyes were on his. "Here, let me help."

Ochako nodded and let Tenya press his lips against hers. It was a sweet, tender kiss. Did it actually make the burning sensation go away? No, but it still made her feel warmer inside than any drink.

It was their new home! Their beautiful new home where they would make countless memories. Perhaps it wouldn't be their forever home, but still.

She pulled back and leaned against her head against his shoulder. She coiled an arm around his and let out a deep exhale of relief. Soon the boxes would be empty and tucked away while their pictures and couches and bed were placed just where they wanted them.

But for now she looked at the Christmas tree they probably spent too much time working on. It glistened with rainbow lights while ornaments she had accumulated over the past several years graced its branches, most of which were from cities she had visited during her missions.

Tenya took her left hand in his and brought it up to his cheeks. He brushed her knuckles against his face before pressing another kiss on her ring finger, the finger decorated in a lavish ring that was far too fancy for a young woman like her.

"I cannot wait to marry you, my angel," Tenya released her hand and leaned his head against hers. "What did I do to deserve you?"

Ochako giggled. "You decided to be my friend." She tilted her head to give his sweater-covered arm a kiss. "That's all you had to do."

"Mmm," Tenya hummed in agreement. "Best decision I've ever made."

Ochako let her eyes close for a moment, taking in the rest of the smells around the room. Cardboard from their moving boxes mixed with old Yankee candles. All intertwined into the beginning of a new adventure they were about to embark on.

"I love you," her eyes flickered open and she looked up at Tenya. "I love you so much."

"I love you too," Tenya smiled. He took a sip of his hot chocolate and nodded. "Oh yes, that's much better." He cocked his chin up. "It's a much more comfortable temperature now."

"Oh is it?" Ochako reached for her cup and took a thirsty sip. "Oooh yes. That hits the spot." She took another three gulps. "We need to turn on the heater before we go to sleep."

"Or," Tenya started, placing his drink down, standing up and walking over to the small radio they had perched on their blank fireplace mantle. "We could find other ways to stay warm tonight," her fiance winked.

"Oh ho ho," Ochako giggled and stood up quickly, dashing over to him and turning on the radio. It was on the Christmas music station. "I suppose we can make do."

Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree was finishing its first verse when they started dancing with each other.

No one else really saw this silly side of her Tenya. They saw Iida, the serious speedy Ingenium.

It was moments like these that made her so happy she got this perfect side of himself.

The rest of the night was filled with giggles and dancing with socks on, creaking hardwood floorboards beneath them.

Yes, this would be their new home.

Tonight would be the first memory in their new home.
