Chapter 1: Decorating

Chapter Text

Neville pulled another tray of cookies from the oven and set them at the back of the counter where Ivy and Aster wouldn’t reach them. He slipped off the oven mitts and set those down too. He could hear giggling coming from the den where his family was currently decorating their Christmas tree. He smiled to himself before grabbing the box Pansy had asked him to get from the table and walked towards them. Pansy was sitting on their sofa hand resting on her bump while the twins chased each other around the coffee table. Neville set down the box and scooped Ivy up. She slung an arm around his neck and pointed to Pansy.
“Papa the baby is being mean to mummy again.” She pouted. Neville looked to his wife for confirmation and she nodded rubbing her hand across her stomach.
“I wouldn't be surprised if instead of a baby this time a bludger popped out.” She sighed.
They had struggled for months to get pregnant the first time. Eventually, they got the twins and truly believed their family was complete. Then eight months ago Pansy got sick with what they thought was the bug the twins had just gotten over but was morning sickness in disguise. They hadn't necessarily been trying to have another baby but they weren't exactly preventing it either. However, this pregnancy was considerably harder on Pansy than the twins were.
Neville walked over and took a seat next to her. Ivy took off as soon as he let her go.
”Can I do anything to help?”
“Talk to him? It normally calms him down.”
Neville scooted down the couch laying his head in Pansy’s lap and pressed a kiss to her stomach. Aster and Ivy came over too never missing an opportunity to interact with their sibling.
“Hello, little one. I know your mummy thinks you're a boy but Aster and I disagree.” Aster nodded at this and Ivy scowled (she wanted another brother). Pansy just smiled and soothed a hand down the back of her daughter's dark curls.
She glanced down at Neville. “You're wrong.”
“We’ll see. Anyways as I was saying. I know it's getting a little cramped in there but if you could settle down just a bit I'm sure mummy would really appreciate it.”
Pansy ran her fingers through his hair and spoke, “Alright up you get we’ve got a tree to finish.”
Neville grinned and stood up.
“You know what I think would make great ornaments?”
“What's that?” she asked, standing herself.
Neville bent down grabbing each of the twins. “Now I know they are a little odd-shaped but you can't deny they're cute.”
Pansy laughed and the twins giggled. “I don't know, I'm not sure Santa would approve.”
Neville sighed dramatically, “I guess you're right they might scare him off.”
“Daddy put us down, we aren't ornaments!” Aster whined.
“Yeah! Put us down!” Ivy agreed with her brother.
Neville smiled and let them down. He walked over to the box pulling out ornaments and handing the less fragile ones to the kids to put on their tree. Pansy had already cast the spells to light it up. He grabbed an ornament to put on himself and another for Pansy. She smiled and took it from him, placing it on the tree. He stood behind her and wrapped his arms around her.
“I love you.” He spoke into her ear placing a kiss in her hair.
She smiled and leaned back against him. “I love you too.”
